Dellrose, Your pictures are just beautiful. I hope to get better at photographing birds I'd love to capture some really good pictures. I have sunflower, thistle and songbird mix feeders that I keep out all year long. In the winter I put out suet and hummer food in the summer. We are lucky to have an old hedge row with tall and understory trees next to the house and we have a lot of bushes that they can nest in plus the bird houses. We don't get many field birds anymore since the old farm next to us was developed. But we do get a few Blue birds and Indigo Buntings from time to time.
This was taken several months ago at my suet feeder.
DAILY PICS VOL. 98
Burn, LOL Rocks are the "BIG" topic around here right now. We have been collecting them for all kinds of projects. Here is my son Josh putting those muscles of his to work. Helping Ric and I collect rocks for our stone wall project. Both him and his younger brother are very handy and quite often help with projects. I'll take labor over a sweater for Christmas any day. LOL
Holly, helpful sons for sure. Look at the smile on that face, he's not even doing it with a grudge. Isn't that nice. You seem to have a very nice setup for the birds, with all kind of seeds and bushes and water feature. A nice little haven for them.
Tiger what a nice link to the Rufous.
A pair of Mourning Dove a few days ago.
Nice pics of Yellow Rump Warbler, Nanny.
Great pics everyone!
Thanks for sharing!
Marilyn
HollyAnn..Thank you and I love the pic of that Red-bellied Woodpecker and the one of your son is just great! I'll bet he is a big help to you and talented too! You are lucky to have the Bluebirds and Indigo Buntings. They are so beautiful!! You look like you have the kind of rocks we have here...BIG!! Sometimes we go out and get a whole frontloader full!!
Tiger...Thanks for the link...what an interesting looking Hummer!
Nanny...Nice Butter Butts!
Burn...Nice Doves...Are the Redpolls still there?
Yes Rose, the Redpolls are still around, sharing the thistles seeds, with the newcomers. They help the ground feeders to get some food, by throwing them some seeds once in awhile. ;)
Nice pics everyone!
Holly,Red-bellied Woodpeckers are such characters!
nanny, Thats great that the Yellow-rumped Warblers still around.
burn, Nice Mourning Dove pic!
I wasn't going to post these but decided to anyway.
These are 1 of the 2 Osprey pairs that nest on North Wildwoood Bld.
Unfortunately by the time we arrived the sun was in the worst possible position and to top it off I forgot to check my camera settings which were incorrect.
Anyway it was exciting to see them and here is one bringing the other a fish.
Dellrose, I sure could use a front-end loader right now. We have a lot of red stone in our area and a lot of the old homes, bridges and walls are built from it. A very pretty stone I think. Right now the state is replacing an old bridge near by and tearing down the old one. We have been collecting some of the cut red stone from the old bridge to use in the new stone wall we are building.
We get the red bellies here quite a bit and the smaller flickers(?), too.
This isn't a very good shot but these guys come by to but are more likely to stay in the hedgerow than come down to the feeder. From the looks of my old split rail fence I think they are getting everything they need from it. It's riddled with holes and they wake up anyone that maybe sleeping with the window open in the downstairs front bedroom.
OMG HollyAnn...You have Pileated Woodpeckers! Aren't you the lucky one to have all those Woodpeckers! We have the Pileated and Flickers here and would love them to visit the yard so I could get some pics. Please share more pics!
Pelle...Never seen an Ospry let along get a pic of one!!
Nanny...Cute little Song Sparrow...I have a terrible time getting a pic of them!
Burn...Glad you still have the Redpolls!
It's official Holly...I am jealous! LOL!
Pelle, Wonderful Ospry pictures.
We use to have a huge red headed woodpecker years ago that came in to the feeders pretty much every day. Must have been old, sick or injured in some way. We found it dead one day when we came home. I've never seen another here in the yard. Here is one more of the Pileated moving thru the threes. It had a huge wing span
Oh Holly your so lucky to have the Pileated Woodpeckers!
Thanks Dellrose, Besides trying to provide a good habitat we have a good location. There are woods right behind us and a creek nearby. A state park about 3 miles has a hawk program and sometimes they come by and the river is only 5 miles away. About the only thing we have been getting in short supply of is Meadows. Everybody is mowing them. I'm pretty sure the feeders got buzzed by a hawk the other day. I was out weeding in the yard and I heard a loud flapping of wings as I looked up all the birds in the yard rose and flew away in flurry. Of course I'm not very good at IDing them. I should get a tape of bird calls also, when I go out in the morning you should hear the sounds all the different birds make. We have Mockingbirds one of them makes some kind of electric sound like a cell phone ringing, it's so funny.
Wow, go to bed early and look at all the posts.
Okay, Rose, when you are done cleaning your house, then you can come and do my house. Bring some rocks too, because I need some. Tell DH to just bring a frontloader full up I-57.
Holly, DARN about the bath/fountain. I was hoping I could purchase one. But such a nice custom-built piece. Good job to DS.
Pell, I like the ospreys. Everyone else, good job.
Great shot of the Downy to start off Mrs Ed!
pelle, your first shot is actually pretty good, at least you got a flight pic, and one with a fish at that. Not so easy to get whatever!
Rose, great pics as always!
nanny, birds are so difficult to catch when they scratch, lol, you got it.
Holly, I saw what I though a really huge Great Spotted Woodpecker on the peanuts, but it's dull and drizzly, and by the time I opened the window upstairs it flew. I don't know if they can be bigger but it certainly looked it!
Wood Pigeon.
Wallaby, Beautiful birds and beautiful pics.
Nanny we have the downy and I think flickers too. I just love to see them scooting up and down the branches, such fun to watch.
The cardinals are always here summer and winter. One winter day I counted 28 Males queueing up in the hedge row and yard just waiting for their turn. I didn't bother trying to count the females.
He was a brave guy moving from tree to tree never going far, just waiting till I finished filling the feeders.
I have a few other shots from this morning to post but I need to go and do a few thing too, Nanny
BTW, This birdfeeder was another one of those Christmas presents made for me by my handy son.
