The long view

This is my "blank slate" my backyard. Is everyone itching to dig up all that grass??? Yep me too!!!!

Nice chunk!

(Zone 4a)

Is that really your yard???

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes, taken from the corner of my fence(even with the house) on the south side looking northwest.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Lots of mowing!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes, but hubby does it so I don't mind, lol.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Jen you had made me so jealous... flat property ... my ankles would love me if i lived there... and yes i can envision where the small walking paths would be through that big garden

:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does the water sit after a heavy rain, Jen? This should be considered in what you choose too.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Rain doesn't sit at all. Nice dirt too, no clay.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Wow Jen, that will keep you busy for years. I can vouch for Jen's dirt also. We're about 30 miles apart, I'm sand ,sand, and more sand. Jen has great dirt.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

WOW! How much property is that, Jen? You've got enough space for a majestic oak!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We have almost an acre. I love it. Can't hear my neighbors.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, it looks great. Wish I couldn't hear my neighbors. They're so noisy, I'd probably still hear them if I had 10 acres.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's a bummer, Harper. That would drive me crazy. I like quiet.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, it does drive me crazy. Thanks for your sympathy.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You have my sympathies also. We had the WORST neighbors where we lived before. So this is just wonderful and the neighbors are great too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

my mom has really loud neighbors too... growing up they were the worst.... the father would go out between our houses at 6 in the morning... which are about 4 feet away from each other and sing on the top of his lungs... the proceed to start the lawn mower... while he was still singing.... as a teenager that was very traumatic for me.... they were always screaming at each other .... uuuuggggghhhh.... they are the reason i want 100 acres and put my house right in the middle

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What did he sing??

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

a so la meo

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Could have been worse...

You could buy a house at a dead end road with acres in between the neighbor. That way you could save money but have quiet. I have 3 houses that border my house and I like quiet and if I had a noisy neighbor - lets not go there.

I have one neighbor that is quiet but his yard is like a lousy pig sty.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

if you say so..... trust me it was pretty bad singing too

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does the pig sing, though?

No he weighs around 400 lbs but don't sing. The woman weighs probably 300 lbs and is quiet. I don't know how much they roll around in the mud though.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

My neighbors are quiet, but I live on a busy road and the cars are constant noise. Still they're not all that bad compared to the motorcycles which of course make their appearance as soon as the weather is nice and our windows are open. ::sigh::

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yup, I've got both. Noisy neighbors on all sides, and I'm on a corner of two busy roads. Every time I think about how much I dislike the noise, I remind myself that I came from a dark, one bedroom apartment in the Bronx. It was noisy AND there was no yard! So, this place may be noisy, but it's a giant step up from where I had been. : )

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You need a nice fountain to drown out the noise!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

That's what I do too Harper. Everytime a mufflerless motorcycle goes by I think, I could be living next to railroad tracks. ooof

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, more like a waterfall the size of Niagara!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Venu, so sorry, we're one of those motorcycles, but not during the summer, we stay away from the shore in the summer. I HATE the traffic.
Made the mistake of going to the seafood fest in Belmar one year...what a nightmare!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jen, I understand the traffic thing. It's horrid in the summer. I used to go to the Pt Pleasant seafood festival but finally gave up.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We have a Big Wheels problem in the summer here.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We also have a training wheels problem, he can't ride around the grass with 'em.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I loved my Big Wheel. Got a lot of miles on it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good option with gas prices!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yeah, downhill was great. I had to carry it uphill though.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good exercise.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

With the price of gas escalating, we might all be getting good exercise and plenty of it!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Ain't it the truth!

North Augusta, ON

I took a couple of "long views". Spring, will be nice to see the beds progress through the season.

First shot, beside the front steps.
