I think ramps are a certain kind of wild leek/onion. They are different than leeks. Later in the spring, they grow in the wild down by the stream here. They cost about $5.00 a lb. in the gourmet shops.

Today's Weather in Your Garden - 17
I eat these and am waiting patiently(not) for them to be in season.

Just make sure it's the safe ones!! The natives in my area had a shy-high rate of stomach cancer and they figured out it was the fiddleheads.
QUESTION TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!! How do you keep up with the website when the weather is really good and noone is on the computer? hmmmmmmmmm, makes me wonder, about me, but will try to post, and post and post, Clemen
Whenever you get the chance - after the outside work is done.
Ok, victor , I agree, but still, as I was gardening all day today out of my electronic life, thought, it is Spring/Summer? I do not spend much time on the computer, but anyway, I will be around! Love the sight! Clem
When are ramps perceived as fiddle heads Victor? Is this a Braille test?
L
Celeste's link was for fiddleheads, L. Cool, Al. Finally spring has sprung for you.
Oh yes. So we can't eat fiddle heads? Are we down to tempe and sprouts? Let me know. I'm sure I can come up with a recipe or two for the above. If you are pushing to include tofurky...well, that's over the line. We'll never get rid of the squirrels and deer here with that attitude.
Ostrich fern is okay.
Ha, ha, ha! I've got fiddleheads, too. And lots of squirrels, deer and crows!
How do you know you can eat that stuff?
Personally I wouldn't, but supposedly Ostrich is reliably non-carcinogenic.
I was referring to all wild edibles - can't say I'd know what was good and what was not.
If you're not sure, don't! There are many books and websites on it though.
I don't even eat the flowers served in restaurants.
What about flour?
This is away from the post of exotics that are non-invasive but, in closing on thoughts regarding the topic, non-invasive is not what counts to me. Replacing indigenous species with exotics is blasphemous in my opinion. Including them in the landscape...fine. Ripping out the landscape and then, tree for tree (as ordinance requires), replacing indigenous landscape with imported "hardscape" is abominable. Hope we can agree to disagree here.
L
I'm not disagreeing, if you think I am.
xxx,

Marking the spot??
Saw me lift my leg?
Laurel, you crack me up!
Another nice day: lots of sun and my thermometer says it's already in the 70s. The thermometer is sitting in the sun, so I know that isn't a true reading.
I see no rain in the extended forecast, so it's time to hook up the garden hose.
The lack of rain is worrisome so early in the season. We have fire hazard warnings here, but it's only April. Yikes, I hope this is not a sign of droughts again. The sun is shinning nicely and temps are already up to 50 degrees.
Oh my gosh, ngam, that reminds me of the year the turkeys followed one of my cats back and forth along the back of the house! She was pretty dumb and didn't even realize they were following her because she was so focused on try to come in. Fred captured a picture of it we called "Queen of the Turkeys"! Thanks for the tom strutting his stuff. Cute cat, too!
Windy, chilly. cloudy, feels like we're back in March, haven't seen any rain yet.
Back in a cooler area after a wk in Austin TX. Met some DG iris people. Nice out here today--almost 60. Maybe I will be less sore tomorrow from sitting on buses & airplanes so can start to weed.
Another beautiful day in the garden after an iffy start. I'm seeing progress but these 8 hour days are killing my muscles. Look for me on the newstands on the cover of one of those women muscle magazines.
Ngam - what a fun photo! With all the turkeys that come into our meadow in NH, I've never seen one fan his feathers - even during mating season. That one looks like the ones we used to cut out of construction paper in grammar school at Thanksgiving! LOL
Hi Snug.........love your screen name! That's an expression I like to use!
Louise
Hang in there, Pirl!
