Very hot here, too. Went birding with a friend. Saw a snipe!!! No pic, too fast! Look who is in the tree.
Patti, I want to hear every detail of your trip!!
I'm on vacation next week but Monday, I am getting my 4 wisdom teeth removed. Hope I'm okay by the end of the week so I can babysit my grandson!
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 17
Kids are home next week. Good luck with your teeth, booj!
Thanks, Victor. I've been a wise girl all my life. Hope I don't lose my wisdom with my teeth.
Had all mine out in college. Always acted up during finals!
Boojum, nice bird pic. I am going to feel guilty eating all week while you have a sore mouth. I had all four out too at once but when I was about 27. I remember eating lots of pasta, which doesn't help you much. I will be thinking about you. We had great blues flapping about today and yesterday a pair of Osprey overhead. One was shrieking (whistle) forever while fluttering very high overhead as if it were trying to stay in one place, but he didn't have a fish, so I don't know if it was a courtship display. The other was much lower and being pursued by crows. Of course the new camera was inside. I only got a quick shot. Patti

Oh Kathy, I'll be thinking of you. I've had them all out at once. You'll be fine with the great care you're going to get from your Special Someone :).
Laurel
Booj, my son had his out in Feb.--no problems, no pain--just soft food for a few days--you'll be fine! Nice bird pics--babysat today & could hear a pileated clunking out wood all morning--also saw a hairy, as HayHay & I spotted clumps of coltsfoot. It was in the low 80's--had to shovel leaves into the pickup & nearly passed out--can't believe I'm complaining about heat! Will have to make 2 dump runs tomorrow. Have fun in the Big Easy, Patti.
pretty WC and I am with you... we need some rain
I need rain for my orchid buckets!!
Patti don't feel guilty-eat FOR me!! No calories, I love it! BTW, I can eat spelt pasta (can't eat wheat)!
Good luck and remember, no heavy lifting and probably no digging for a few days, not that you'll want to dig anyhow.
I had mine removed late in life so I timed it for non-gardening season.
Have a nice trip, Patti! New Orleans is one place I'd really like to see and maybe some day I will. Enjoy some jazz for me!
Boojum, my sympathies. You'll be glad you did it - after the fact. I won't tell you my story. Stock up on ice packs, but NO STRAWS. My youngest only had 3 wisdom teeth. He thinks he's highly evolved. When he can cook for the family and do all the laundry, shopping, gardening and cleaning, I'll talk with him about being evolved! Orchids - yay! Mine are perking up with the longer days and warmer temps. Just like me!
DH just told me there is a wildfire up at Minnewaska State Preserve - 1300 acres. This is in the Shawangunk Mountains near Mohonk. Just terrible because it's so dry especially since one year ago, we were flooded out.
- Lynn
Oh how terrible!
Wicked, wicked Mother Nature! She toys with us all the time - sometimes good, sometimes not so much. I hope the firefighters will be able to contain whatever happens up there.
Oh that's terrible. I love it there. Great hiking. I know one of the family who owns Mohonk Mt. house.
Got to 83 today s/b 80 tomorrow they are calling for rain on Mon. Anyone know are we going into a full moon or out of the full moon???
i have all my wisdom teeth, but i had my tonsils out 3 years ago, which was highly unpleasant.
Never mind my moon question I found this...

Hi everyone!!!! Haven't had too much time for posting cause it has been beautiful all week and Colin and I have been outside every waking minute. I've been in the garden and Colin in his sandbox. When he is not in his sandbox he is climbing up and down the deck stairs and opening and closing the sliding glass door into the kitchen!!! I've been loving every minute of these gorgeous sunny days - even have a bit of a burn. Gotta get the sun screen out. Today we're going to start putting up his new playset in the yard!! That'll keep him busy! Eleanor
54* now with an expected hi of 80. Life is good.
Utter perfection up here in Hudson Valley! Today's fun: planting a bunch of veggies, cleaning out the thyme walk, dividing some perennials for the pool garden and giving the roses their first feeding. Ain't it great??
For the last few days I have hardly posted due to this beautiful weather. It has been 20-25 degree's above our normal temps for this time of the year. Normal is 50-55 we have been at 70-75 and I for one have been taking advantage of it. I will not complain it's too hot to work....I suffered through to much snow this winter to utter a word of complaint!! I actually ENJOYED sweating for a change!!!!!
I feel like I am ahead of the game this season, compared to last year at this time and it makes me breathe just a little bit easier.
I'm leaving for Florida on Thursday so I have been trying to get as much as possible done before I go so I don't feel like I am neglecting anything while I play! LOL
This morning I received a message from someone in northwest Washington and it's snowing. Enough!
Hope it's like April snow here and melts off by days end.
Looks like another gorgeous day. Sunny already 42 degrees and climbing. They are saying mid 60s for the high, a bit cooler than yesterday. We could use some rain now but nothing in the week ahead forecast. Looks like already watering time around here. Hope this doesn't mean another too dry summer.
It's 45 here we should get up to 60-65 today.
Today is another lovely day and we will reach about 60 again today. We will probably be one of the cooler spots in NE today except way north. The next 10 days appear to be projected to be about the same. I was hoping for some rain while I was away.
Boojum, I forgot about spelt. I hope you get some rain for your orchid water collection. I know you will be well taken care of, and feed yummy food. Beignets are soft!
mamasita, Oh no, Terrible news about a fire in the area. I love Mohawk Mt House too. Great hiking and climbing. I love all those wonderful seats and benches along the walks.
grammyphoeb, Love the vision of Colin in his sandbox and you in the garden. Hope you are keeping both of you out of the Poison Ivy.
I am out to finish my mad scramble to get "done" , a word that doesn't exist for any gardener's lexicon in reality ! I always know a visitor's level of gardening involvement when I hear them ask, "aren't you done yet?"
Patti - that reminds me, I should go down and check out the poison ivy patch and see if it has emerged yet - then I will SPRAY!!!!!! Not going to touch it this year. Eleanor
68 and sunny here. Supposed to be up to 75. We do need some rain though.
The newspaper says that they have the fire contained and no structures are at risk. It was still burning, but not like before. We really could use some rain!
Nice day, and high time I got out there and did some work! Have fun, everyone.
- Lynn
Just back from my son's t-ball game. Gorgeous out - 75 and sunny with a nice breeze. Going for a hike with the family after lunch.
I think the lack of water has killed a few of my roses that I uncovered last weekend! Over the past 3 weekends I gradually pulled off the winter mulch from my roses, pulling the last of the straw, leaves, soil off last weekend. Each had nice little shoot buds on the canes, with a few little leafs even peeking out. I came back this weekend and about 7 of them look completely dessicated. The only thing I can think of is this surprise heat wave combined with the dryness may have scorched both the buds and the canes. No disease present that I can see.
Grrrrrrr...I'm posting this so others can avoid my mistake...unless someone else has a theory.
(some of these are own-root roses, so I have hope that they will survive, but even so, it'll take a year for them to recover if at all.)
Still 77 and nice! Got lots of yard work accomplished today, thank goodness. Now I'll be able to concentrate on the more detailed work.
I'm sorry to hear about your roses, Daisy. I don't have roses any more, but I'm keeping an eye on some of the plants I uncovered until our last frost date. It is very dry and I watered the few things I purchased this week at the nurseries. Still too early to plant them. - Lynn
60 and cloudy. Was a nice day. Our hike was shortened by bugs! Does anyone remember the name of this purple annual next to the DL in this photo? Someone asked me and I can't remember it.

Some kind of Wandering Jew?
Maybe Purple Passion?
Found it. Yes related to Wandering Jew - Setcreasea pallida ‘Purple Heart’. Thanks Kathy.
Thanks, Victor, now it's going to drive me crazy! It grows all year round in FL & is a pest --someone told me not to plant it, but my mind is a blank--well, it always is. A better day today--high 70's but a nice breeze--clothes on line dried very fast--made 2 dump runs--will have to make several more this week--my new grandson is now coming on Mon. so I really don't know when I'll get anything done. Or if---I'll be too busy with HayHay & Anni.
Thanks, folks--I can sleep now!
The latest news on Minnewaska is 2300 acres involved. They are calling for additional help due to the extremely dry air and ground. The wind isn't helping, either. My son told us they are now asking Dutchess County for help. This is approx. 10% of the entire preserve, in the northern portion.
Cooling off nicely tonight - good sleeping weather, especially after a day working in the yard. - Lynn
