Oh Diane, Yep ... now I remember those little lovelies! And those cute little ceramic watering cans too!
Cedar: Snow?? I did hear about a cold front that is coming all the way down here to Florida! We had a high yesterday of 89 and today it's only going to be 70 with a chilly night, either tonight or tomorrow night is going to be 40 degrees! Brrrr ... but, at least we don't get snow - I saw where Minnesota had something like 6" of snow with this latest cold front! I hope it blows through Florida real fast! I moved all my orchids outside last week, they are hanging in the Schefflera tree in the backyard and I am not moving anything back inside! So, it better not get lower than 40! I'm hoping it won't even get to 40.
What's blooming in April III
Thought maybe some of the pro grower's on here could help this person on the beginner house plant forum with a problem AV? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/833767/ I hesitate to give advice on this one cause I'm not sure what the problem is. To me it looks like crown rot, possibly from water damage but I don't know what to tell them. Maybe some of y'all can take a look at her photo and have tell what's going on?
Well Lin ours temps have rebounded nicely since yesterday..any snow is past history already..lol..Temps here are forcast for near 70 tomorrow...I feel my spirits soaring higher already just thinking about it....Sure hope this weather we had doesn't make it all the way to Florida..that would be a shocker to your plants for sure..I can imagine even 40 degrees would be far to cold for alot of them ; (
Nah, I have left plants outside in below 40 temps before with no problems! If it were to stay that cold for many hours I'm sure it might do some damage but when we do get low temps here at night it's only just before sunrise and when that sun comes up it warms up fast. So, I'm not worried really. I checked weather.com and they are now saying 48 as our low which is much better!
Good to know Lin..I was worried there for a bit : (
*OddBall Alert*....Wish I would have seen this before the blooms started to fade..I was rooting around the shelves earlier and I have a changed bloomer..LOL... Rob's Dust Storm ..1st bloom cycle I remember it was all a pretty pink fantasy..now its blooming 1/2 normal and the other half a deep purple.....wonder if next time it will go back to the normal color??? Anyone else ever have this happen?I wonder what causes it??
I have had that happen, Nancy ......especially on the first flush of blooms. Each time the plant blooms the bigger and the truer the blooms become it seems to me.
I saw that adorable pic of the mini, Diane.......too sweet.....
Your pictures are all so beautiful. Makes me want to squeeze in some more plants SOMEWHERE.
Cindy
BeaHive: You have absolutely beautiful plants! Do you know the names on any of them? I love that first pink one but those last two are really amazing! Great growing and Welcome to the AV forum! We have so much fun sharing our pictures here and chatting! Good to have you join in!
Lin
What a lovely bunch of bloomers you have there BeaHive..I Love Your Name : ) Yep..Sometimes a change of locations is all they need to go from Blah to Ahhh..Looks Looks like you found the perfect place for them in your kitchen. All Amazing Beautiful Bloomers you have there : ))
Sorry but the original Optimara plant tag has no names on all of these.
By reading your posts, seems like Optimara does not label anything.
gessiegail.. I love that red one. Are the leaves varigated? Will need
to find that one..once it can be identified. It is so unusual. :)
Wow your flowers are just beautiful.... Great growing...
Hugs,
Susan
BeaHive, I love your blooms! No, Optimara doesn't label anymore. Those minis were from Optimara but I don't have them anymore as I now belong to a violet club where they emphasize growing plants with names (in case we want to enter them in the annual AVSA show)
Beautiful bloomers BeaHive :)
Welcome to the AV forum......the BEST forum around :)
Great group of friends here and some wonderful advice & chat :)
Of course, the pictures are always stunning too :)
Welcome again,
Kim
Thanks for the warm welcome all . Uh..Oh.. I think I am going to get hooked on violets again. Now that my children are older and I have more free time..I need an indoor hobby when I can't be outside in my garden which is my joy! (rains a lot in oregon) Placed an order with Lyndon Lyons today for some plants and leaves to get started again. Hope to have more pictures to share soon. Will keep reading everyones posts to get up to speed on the Violet world!!
BeaHive: Please be sure to post a photo of your new babies from Lyndon Lyons when they arrive!
will do! They do not start shipping until May.. but I ordered some pretty ones..Can't wait! :)
The greatest influence for me in growing is our president, Marjorie Bullard. You see her name on many strep pictures and african violets ones, too. She is also a judge and a state officer. We could never have the great group we have without her guidance and enthusiasm. (She is funny funny along with a lot of knowledge)
Oh my goodness, Gail ... can I join your AV club? ^_^ Great looking group and food too?! I have baked brownies and taken them along with the paper plates, napkins, tea and lemonade and cups to our meetings twice. Our meetings are always held at the president's home and there's no food involved. Usually only meet for an hour to hour and a half at most!
Oooh, I love Party Dress! So pretty in pink!
Unknown chimera just starting to bloom.
********maybe you need to let her know how some other clubs operate........we have a blast with door prizes. I gave away a giant big strep of Vampire's Kiss in a 5" pot to the lucky one who guessed the secret number of 22 that I had chosen and written down on a piece of paper.
I also got some great leaves from Sally and I am going to start her some leaves of mine that she likes..............also she wants to buy a plant from me at the sale and I am sure I will want her plants, too!
I will show the streps tomorrow and the other sinningias.............in bloom............
Good morning! Wonderful pictures everyone.

Gail..looks like you had a wonderful meeting...I have heard you mention some of the women in the pictures.Nice to be able to put faces with the names : )....loving all your beautiful pics!! That Heinz Unchanged bloom is getting prettier by the minute...Gorgeous Blooms : )
We had a wonderful time last night, Gail. Thank you very much! Your house is great and all of your plants inside, and in your screened porch are GREAT! I saw the plants in the trees too. The food was yummy also. I should have taken pictures. I am glad you did. We need one all together, group shot.
I enjoyed seeing your flowers, babies, etc so much.
Yes, let's just rename that gorgeous plant, Sally's girl, HA! I can't wait to find out the name! Did you email Jo with the picture? Maybe someone here knows. It is SO pink I am in love.... I will be happy for a leaf, whatever.
