Funny squirrel show, Allison. They dug up a number of my small bulbs so I'm not a fan right now!

So the Katherine Hodgkin would be great near the uva vulpis (sorry Victor), they're only about 8". i am SO annoyed that out of the 15 new ones i planted i am getting ONE. But then, i pulled up the leaves from 3 eaten Renown tulip bulbs today - and i KNOW i caged them. Grrrr. Also 2 more, either QON or Maureen. They've gotten ALL my Prinz Claus crocuses - i got to see one bloom though!

Here is chionodoxa #2 after the rain today. Just in time, cause something ate #1's bulb on Thursday. sigh.
This one is much darker than the 1st - and than the photo...

The poorly located, i-didn't-expect-them-to-return, uva vulpis from last year coming up around - and through - my annual (?) dianthus, planted last June.
What is up with that, anyhow? It was out of a 6 pack of "Quartz Mix" and supposed to be annual - it is HUGE!

Apparently the only "Prinz Claus" crocus i will ever see...
(The next day it was GONE. Not even a hole. GONE.)
i guess something ate the other 11(?) before they got that far. Nice to leave me one for one day so i could see what i was missing.

Side view.
i thought it would be so cool to have all these b&w crocuses coming up right around my black and white tulips.

Wow Victor, and I was getting excited with just the first signs of green leaves around here, you're so far ahead of me! Very pretty.
Sorry Amy!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Yes Victor, your plants - and photos - are lovely. i shouldn't have posted my gripe after your pretty flowers.
(i was thinking about your comment about squirrels.)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks to both of you!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

each shot better than the next as always Victor... my perennial dianthus doesn't do that well Amy

Allison - I love the squirrel show!! I try to keep them occupied in my yard so they don't get into the bird feeders. I have 6 stations for them to feed at and it keeps them content for the most part - I have around a dozen squirrels to contend with plus SUPER SQUIRREL that has gotten into my advanced pole system from Wild Birds Unlimited. Beautiful blooms Victor. Sorry about the crocuses Amy - squirrels ate some of my blooms also. Eleanor

I hope if I feed them they will leave everything else alone.... and it's fun for us to watch

Begonias off to a good start

one wish----Those look great.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks.... love them!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Great shots Victor. Begonias are looking terrific and I also feed the squirrels so they leave most everything alone now, not perfect but better. There always seems to be one squirrel that is smarter than the rest, ours is called the Einstein squirrel. He seems to be able to figure everything out in order to get what he wants. I lost 4 or 5 suet cages to him no matter how I tried to attach them.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Lovely pictures everyone. You guys are so ahead of me. We're just getting our first crocuses.

I love that katherine hodgkin iris. I was going to get some last fall, and didn't. This fall for sure. I remeber when they first came out, and they were like $3.00 a bulb, very expensive for the reticulatas.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Victor, it's a good thing you have a peeping "Tom", and not a peeping "Thom"! By the way, I hope your wife appreciates all your horticultural endeavors!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks all! The begonias look great, Allison. Sue, my wife usually will say the garden looks nice about once a year.

These are probably for another forum but my friend in AZ just sent them and I thought I would share.
She says the "brittle bush" blooms have turned the hills yellow.

Beautiful everyone!! Wow, Victor, we might be 45 mins. apart, but you're weeks ahead of me!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

My emperors in front of the house started opening!
(i think the front of the house is about a week ahead of the back...)

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Amazing pictures. Boy, Victor, when your garden pops...it POPS! My muscari is starting up too, but that is about it. I'll have to take a walk around this morning. Eleanor, what an ingenious idea! I love your cold frame. I planted out some of my w/s seedlings-poppy. I have to transplant my broccoli as it is huge in it's container. I have two raised beds that are under a cold frame and my lettuce and broccoli has sprouted in there as well. I planted carrots and eggplant too. Now I'll spring sow [w/s except it not really winter anymore] my other veggies...peppers, cukes. I was thinking trying Korean melon again and I might plant a birdhouse gourd.

My neighbor has decided to put up a fence. I'm glad, but I know he is going to make a mess of my beds. He won't mean to, but he has no idea what's what. Of course, he will probably do it during the week when I'm not around. I'm hoping he waits so I can be there to supervise and avoid any unnecessary damage.

Crocuses are flopped over Tulips in tub near garage.
Cum Laude from Sheepers.Looking pretty sturdy squirrl only got one.
Shure enough when you share garden space and don't comminicate a plan "stuff happens" Sarah planted Rinunculas where the Japanese Iris should be. I think I can wedg it in anyway.
I expect Hyiasenths to open next two days.

Nice, Jo Ann. Thanks, Anita. Things will really pop later this week with the warm temps. Cold this AM!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Whats this? it has cream and green striped leaves all summer. In the fall it puts up a spike of pink flowers look like grapehyiasenths.
sorry the plant is so burnt, its just starting for this yead. Diameter of the plant is about 1 foot or less.

I'm so proud of myself, I started a new topic."Whats This" for new or old gardners with identification questions.
Based on this post
