Sounds like you all had fun, great pictures Rach...I was there in spirit!
Plants I have for Newcastle Swap
Thanks for taking pictures Rachel! I have an inch of snow today. crazy weather
I had to pay up here at Dave's to see the pics :-) I figured though with such a great bunch of gardeners I met yesterday it would be worth it for many other reasons. Yesterday was a blast and I think I might just be able to put a few things in the ground today. Not exactly balmy but hey..I'll take what I can get. Thanks again for everything Jacquie! You are a sweetie. Rachel it sounds like Marie (Bejoy) from GW is trying to get a plant swap together for the fall at a local nursery in Olympia. Wouldn't that be awesome?

Hi suzyq - nice to meet you. I got to the swap late yesterday, so we didn't formally meet. Glad you're hear. Great pictures, Rachel.
As a reality check - this is what the folks in the Rockies go through every winter to spring transition, and then some. They deserve Kudos and tons of respect for the conditions under which they garden.
I cringe at this weather, but I'm counting my blessings!
I'm from CO and you are right that they see sun and snow in a day many times throughout the winter and spring. This weather does indeed belong more to the interior of the continent.
My brother lives in Aurora, outside of Denver, and he whines about the weather there all the time. Snow in May is not out of the norm for him! He grew up here and now works for NASA, and Denver is central location for him, not really his choise.
He also doesn't complain that they average 300 days a year of sunshine compared to our 250.
Don't you mean our 250 days of Shade and 115 days of a peep at Sun...lol
Susan it was great meeting you! Please let us know if the swap is a go. Welcome to the PNW thread, it's alot of fun! Have a good evening, Rachel
Oh Gordon I love it! You are so lucky, mine never bloomed this summer...I gave up on it...lol
Blooming now? Awesome!
They like lots and lots of fertilizer! Don't give up! Just fertilize the crap out of it. I even spray a dilluted fert right on the leaves every day!
I will have to buy another...I gave up as in it is gone to the compost bin in the sky!
Yes ma'am! took the pic today when I saw the third bud open, and the forth is right behind it!
Oh, no! Next time you give up on a plant let me know! I hasve 10 green thumbs, as you can tell from my typeing!!
LOL Okay but by the time I gave up the aphids had ate all the leaves because I left it for them so they would leave my other plants alone...
That is due to the daily fert spray, Gordon!
Was the Brug grown from seed, and if so, when did you start it?
I have high hopes for the little guys that I started about 6 weeks ago.
Its in the red and grey pot. There is a red caster bean in front of it, amogst the begonias and other brug starts.
I started several 'Carmencita' castors last week. Got my fingers crossed for a HOT summer and lots of fun plants.
I swear Gordon, everytime I walk by the growing unit, I look for signs of sprouts. Stuff like Amaranthus came up in 3 days! I need to chill, because that's what the weather has done!
Gordon,
I am so jealous, you actually have garden plants of all kinds growing large in your house! I have some Dahlia's about that big growing inside, maybe I should try a brug inside, your is gorgeous! I guess that is my next venture...now to find one, I can always move it to the patio during summer! Can you smell the blooms?
Oh yeah you can smell the blooms. It reminds me of a light jasmine. Begonias are the best for inside outside plants. But I do have many going. I will be over tommorow cocoa to bring your two boxes of goodies from Sat.
Sounds great, looking forward to see you again and thanks again.
Carla -I sent the Solomon's Seal for you via Gordon. Forgot to tell you!
Katye,
Thanks so much I have the perfect place to plant it. I am sure I will love it, I can't wait for it to get as beautiful as yours.
they are fun and sturdy plants - I am going to move some into a sunnier area to see how much sun they'll take.
If anybody knows about the succulent plants that were at the swap, a Gasteria and a Harworthia from the Aloe family, I would love to know who donated them, and what the scoop was with them. I like both of them for my collection.
Check on gardenweb Rob. I believe it was from one of them.
