Plants I have for Newcastle Swap

Snohomish, WA

I got dogged by Adog! Got your plants on the way! I even took some cuttings of devils club from the plants in the back. My son is using the truck so I will have one full car!!!

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

JBuresh, I was amazed at how much more is in bloom just a few miles away in your area: tulips, hyacinths, rhodies. We are way behind out here. Your yard, paths and beds are lovely, I just didn't have time to take a tour. Sometime I would love to.

Rachie, I am counting on you and the Mantruck to get Pixy's stuff to her okay? Thanks!

If it snows I will be chanting: "please let me get to work okay.. please let me get to work okay" all the way to Seattle. I hope the weathermen are wrong. Right now we have a brisk hail falling.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I can just see it Gordon. The speedy Mustang whipping down the freeway with tree limbs sticking out the windows! I am going to bring our car as well since the cost of diesel is insane!

It is snowing here like mad! Glad I tromped in the back earlier! I hop it is all gone by the morning but I doubt it! :-( Oh well! I hope everyone makes it safe! I hope I can get out of the yard!

I hope it isn't the speedy mustang sliding sideways down the freeway!!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

No,no we don't want sideways - straight ahead please ;0)

maury,

would love a lingonberry. sounds like it makes good jam.

For those who are able to brave the storm, the swap will likely be inside. I've rigged up my garage. There is a sign for just about everyone on the wall so everyone has a space to put their plants and everyone is easy to find. Pre-printed name tags as well.

The pool table is covered and ready for all the yummy food.

Did I mention the garage is heated and the rec room has a wood burning stove?

thanks for all the kind words Annie! They'll whet the appetite of the swappers! You are welcome to stop in anytime. Did you see the huge euphorbia out front? That is the one you gave me, what 2 years ago now!
:)

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

Yes JB! I saw the euphorbia in full glory and wondered if that was "John Thompson" "Robert Thompson" Some Thompson...LOL You've done well with it, for sure! Such a lovely green/chartreuse. Your woodstove sounds inviting indeed and so organized with names etc. I almost put your box under your name/post, but didn't know if it'd be more protected to leave them by the house, so there they stayed.

NWGordon; Snoho county is taking the brunt of it yet again. Your poor pansies! Drive carefully everyone: Mantruck, Mustang or car.

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

My nametag sign was just a test subject. Good thing I didn't make them all into stake yesturday like I planned. Taping them to the walls was a lot easier than stapling and driving stakes into the yard. procrastination works again!

I moved all your boxes into the garage and put them under the name tags in there.

How is the snow up in Newcastle? I left Bellevue at 2 and no snow there. I bet if you map out the convergent zone , my house is dead center!

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

:) No snow at all yet Gordon. I hope it stays that way. You sure are getting hit up that way!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

2" on my car when I left work in Lynnwood. Gordon

Snohomish, WA

Okay! So if I can get out of my yard I'll be fine!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Thats the sticky part, but the roads are fine just slushy. Don't stop quick.
LOL

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

I live at the top of a hill so I may get some by morning. Side roads may be quite slick so if you come do drive carefully! I'll try to post in the morning the conditions here.

Snohomish, WA

If I crash they wouldn't find me burried under plants!!! lol

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I can see this in the head lines " Car found in ditch, no person involved, seems a bush was driving" LOL

Hi all,

I am pretty new to all this gardening, and have been trying to follow all the threads and get up on this gardening stuff, as well as talking to a few people out there (tillys has been helping keep me up on this). I would really like to attend the plant swap in Newcastle if at all possible, is that still ok? If so, do I understand it right that it is happening tomorrow? How do I find out when and where? I am real late at this, but I could probably scare up some seedlings or something... or maybe just socialize and take in the conversation and learn! :) Thanks!

Stacy

Look, Peeps... my goal here is to give plants away. I need for this party to go forward as planned, please. I know I can't be there, but Rachel is my courier and she is bringing many much plants that need homes. We simply must put all of our energy together into creating better weather conditions for your party and for safe traveling for people and plants. I am going out to the greenhouse now to sacrifice something to the weather gods. Invoke the good will of your garden fairies in protecting your plants overnight. You don't even have to believe in them. Just open your door and yell out into the night, "Hey, all you fairies! I know you are out there! I would be ever so grateful if you would do your voodoo magic over our plants tonight so that they may live and bloom freely in the sunshine some day. I appreciate you even if I don't always believe in you." Then put a nice shiny piece of foil or a small crystal, anything shiny, in the garden as a token of goodwill. May the force be with you.

Word to the wise: say it like you mean it. If you don't believe in fairies, you better make yourself sound like the best liar in town because if they think you are making fun of them, you're going to wake up to dead plants. Don't mess with fairies. They may be small, but they have BIG power.

Wow, Jacquie - you are prepared. This sounds like the must-attend event of the season. I'm cookin' up some chicken for the salad right now and discovered that I have a lot of eggs, so I'll make devilled eggs - usually a crowd-pleaser. I really should have planned on making chili - I'm craving it now with this crazy weather.

Holly - I'd be happy to pick up any plants for you. Surely we'll be able to hook up at Dragonfly and Hostajim's. You can't miss that!!

I'm thinking that this snow has both a convergent zone and an altitude factor. There was no snow in Redmond at 6:15, but I ran some errands and drove home in flakes that got bigger the higher up I got.

Catgal, as a new gardener, you totally need to show up at Jburesh's house tomorrow. There should be a thread that gives the time etc. If you go, see Rachel. She'll set you up with plants, no worries.

Snohomish, WA

Please come! I bet the addy and old thread will pop up in a second.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Mary, pretty funny.

Melissa - I'm going out to cover some things and I will raise my arms and make a placation to the Universe and the Faeries that serve it. They must know that we will go insane if we can't get to the swap tomorrow - and we are their best allies.

Catgall - I'm going to speak for Jacquie here and say, "the more the merrier". I don't have much to trade and Jacquie and I have not yet met in person. I'm coming for good company and to meet people. The plants are just a bonus. It would be great if you could come.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Stacy we would love to have you join us! Here is the link to directions (first post in thread) and a sign-up for what we are all bringing to the potluck. Hope to see you there! Rachel

Everett, WA(Zone 7b)

I really want to... need to run it past hubby, as that means he will have to "babysit" his children... lol. If the roads are decent then I will do everything in my power to be there. I will search for the address and time. And bring a bunch of the seedlings I have... they are probably the very standard plants everyone already has, but may as well bring em along! Thanks!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Got it

Jburesh, I've got a lingonberry for you. They are evergreen, get 6-10inches tall and have a small red berrythat ripens in the late summer/fall. They have an unusual flavor and can be made into jam given you use enough sugar. I haven't tried make any, so I don't have a recipe to pass along. Holly

My, we are busy bees . . .

Yes, Stacy, please come!!

Snohomish, WA

There is no such thing as a standard plant!! Each has its own qualities and desirabilities. All plants are welcomed! I bet I snag at least one! Would you like a crocosmia, or caladium? I'll set one aside if you like!

Renton, WA(Zone 8a)

I've dmailed cat my address and cell phone. We'll send her home with lots of wonderful plants to be sure!

Katie, deviled eggs are my favorite!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I thought that is what we are,

Snohomish, WA

Does anyone want seeds? I have a ton! Way too many to list!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Devilled eggs? LOLOL. I'm really hungry right now. May have to make a second batch so I can taste test the first . . .

Everett, WA(Zone 7b)

Ok, I have to come now... man I hope the weather isn't like it was today.. ick. I have extra seeds as well, and as far as plants I have a whole darn bunch of catnip (I just grow it for my cats, but man that stuff fills pots!), I have a huge amount of tomato seedlings, sweet pepper seedlings... now I can't even remember, I will have to go check my racks... can I bring things that still need to stay indoors for a little while longer? And I would love crocosmia, fell in love with it last summer/fall. Thanks!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That reminds me - I'll bring the remainder of the seeds Heidi sent in January so people can go through them.

Gordon - I'll take seeds of any exotic, big-leafed plants that aren't poisonous (my pesky dogs eat everything. My poor rudbeckia is mowed down the minute it comes up).

Snohomish, WA

Any plant! Inside outside has no sides! Bring them all!

Snohomish, WA

Well there goes the giant hogweed!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

You all are making me so sad, I thought about calling in sick, but that won't work. But all I ask is as Laurie will to, take lots of pics and we will be flying around, if the weather dos'nt ground us. Oh and Pix to. She'll be out yelling at the faeries for some good weather. LOL
Have Fun
^_^
Tills

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I am bringing seed too! Cat, I would love a tomato and pepper plant or two :0)
