I can't wait till my garden looks like this again!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

The "title" of this thread now speaks for itself!!! No wonder you couldn't wait!!!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Thank you all for the compliments. I LOVE SUMMER!!! In the middle of the rose hedge is a sucker rose that I planted from a mother plant years ago. I didn't realize that it would get so big, now it's growing up in the rose hedge. I think I will try to move it in Feb so it can be seen and enjoyed for itself.

Here's the arbor 7 days later with Brute. We had just gotten home from our 2 mile walk. His brother Moose was over laying by the water bucket and didn't want to move. He's the one in the pic of DH bike tire tracks going down the walkway throught the arbor.

It must be worth enduring the cold for an end result like this. Bravo!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Thank you Margaret. Yeah I like the different seasons, l just wish winter wouldn't last the longest!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Here's a shot from a different angle that DH took.

That is really lovely. You must spend a lot of time outdoors absorbing the warmth and beauty to tide you through the long winter.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

That is just, so beautiful, how long have you been working on it?

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Thank you both. I've been working on it for 19 yrs. When we first moved out here it was just a lawn and very few trees. The lawn started dying the following year no matter what we did to save it so DH suggested we take it out and make it a flower garden. Upon removing the grass we discovered why it was dying, the crazy old people that lived here had sod put down which would have been ok if they hadn't put black PLASTIC down under it to keep the Cottonwood suckers and weeds out. l like the flowers better anyway. Here's another angle.
l spend as much time outside in the summer that's physically possible. l even spend time out at night.

I got a long way to go, Omy
I have been here for 20+ years, and just really Started doing anything until the last few years, most of it was fenced off for livestock. Now that they are gone and sold and fences are down, junk cars are mosely gone. I now have all this space, and having fun filling it. Can't wait to get a record for year to year. Woodland just got a up grade, the new borders are here. Hate not haveing a real truck. this is going to be a new tread, just a taste for now LOL

Hey, gardener105, how's your beautiful garden doing?

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Hey Margaret, at the moment we're having thunderstorms so it's too dark to get a pic. I have to say though it is slowly fading away. It does that this time of year. The Rugosa roses are about done as well as the Minis. The Daylily's are still in bloom as well as the Valerian, Spiderwort, Goldenrod, Mallow, Sea Holly and Knautia. When the storms pass and the sun comes out I'll get a pic then. In the mean time here's a few pics of what the afore mentioned flowers looked like the 21st of last month.

Your garden is great G105.

PERTH, Australia

Thanks Susan. It still looks good to me. What a lovely peaceful place to be. The colours and balance are so lovely. The ebb and flow of the seasons must be very comforting - kind of an enduring predictability. Keep us posted as things start to change.

Margaret

Hey, what's happening gardner105?

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

oh, phew!! I was so afraid I was going to scroll down and find you back in snow!!! Thank goodness summer continues. Looks lovely.

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone! No, no snow in the forecast YET, but supposed to be in the upper 20's low 30's for the next couple of nights.
Here's todays pic, a little color left but mostly just green. The flowers are pretty much spent for the year.

So cold there already!!!

It's been windy here, and rainy, but the temps seem kind of mild (of course the winds were from the SSW) for this time of year. Even though it's cold relative to September. :-D

More wind again tonight. And I just got the meadow cleaned up and mowed. Grrrrrr.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

We've actually had first frost in the fields, but I think the trees around the garden kept the temperatures just that touch warmer (the dahlias haven't blackened - always the real give away). Need to get the pumpkins into the barn under cover this weekend. It has been a bumper crop this year - I think all of the rain we had in August really pushed them on.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

First frost in the fields already? Brrrrr.

It's still relatively warm here, what with the windstorms from the SW. Last night was dramatic, but not as bad as last Saturday night. The trees still have their leaves, so it's worrisome to have the storms so early - the leave really catch the wind and make it harder for them to withstand the storm intact.

Laurie - I'd love to see some pictures of the frost on the fields or the pumpking patch.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Too late for the pumpkin patch - they are all up and on the walls, curing. But I can certainly take the next frost. Like you our temperatures are flucuating (is that spelled right?) wildly - today was incredilbly warm, and when we went for our swim at 10 to 6 this morning we went in light jumpers and t-shirts and didn't really need the jumpers. On Sunday I was in two t-shirts and a heavy fleece! But, that's the nature of living on an island.

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Big cold front coming in today. Lots of wind and my winter mulch is being deposited by all the ponderosa pines dropping their needles. Nice of mother nature to do my work for me. My garden is at its peak. Lots of flowers and especially the asters and roses. Too many others to mention. I leave though for Sitka for a long 3 weeks of absence and the garden will be gone when I get home. Though I look forward to the warm fires of winter and a good book in my chaise. I have decided to no longer rake the needles but rather suck them and the old mulch and blow it back with my debris loader each year making the mulch richer with chopped finer mulch.
I am listening to Neil Diamonds 'Tap Root Manuscript' one of the old 'albums' of my youth.

Nice, Just love it. you do go work Steve.
I have a ponderosa pine, just love it. This is the pups playing under it, the big husky is Max, a friends, who was visiting that day, he passed away from cancer this summer. Was a nice dog.
