I can't wait till my garden looks like this again!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

I'm trying katie59 but it's getting harder all the time! It was gorgeous over the week-end, temps in the high 60's almost 70's and yesterday the wind started blowing like crazy and we knew there was another cold front moving in and sure enough, IT'S HERE! Raining and snowing at the same time, wind blowing, the sun comes out, GAD I'M TIRED OF THIS! Just got done talking to DD in Vancouver and she said it was just pouring there. She said her DH will probably be coming home from work anytime since he works in construction and they can't work with weather like that. Saw on the news about the tornado in Virginia yesterday, man this country is getting crazy weather! Getting pretty scary when there's tornados where they aren't normally.
There's supposed to be 8" - 10" of snow in the mountains again! YIPPEEE!!!
Kayte-are you sure it's going to be in May or June? What about July? Of course it has snowed here in July, no I'm not kidding! July 4th, 1978, we were sitting outside in our winter coats watching the frieworks that they set off every year off the top of Pilot Butte and it started SNOWING! My aunt, uncle and cousins were here from Toledo, OR and they NEVER came back over the 4th again! Can't say as I blame them. Oh BTW, it's been known to snow in the mountains in August too.
Talk to you later.

You poor thing!! The news forecast last night showed a big front hanging out. But we didn't get that much rain and the forecast is for a dryish (if not sunny) weekend. It was still a little cold, but the sun was out this morning on my way into work.

Sheesh. Hope that extends to you soon. Can't believe you have snow.

Oh, 105, you poor thing. Smooch, hug. this will pass. honestly. summer will come, even in Bend, Or. Doggie has just gone to look for it. (Love your photo - dog's just don't care, they just want something to happen). He's just remembered where he buried it, he'll bring you some nice sun. Honestly.

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Thank you ladies. It makes it kind of hard to get into the mood for gardening! Oh well it is "Sunny Central Oregon"? LOL!

G105 - remember - you live in high desert!!! So you do get that lovely hot dry heat in july - august & into September and it just gets wiped out at night with the huge temperature dip. Like starting with a clean slate every day - no 90° middle of the night - too hot to sleep stuff.
But, it is hard to get past the continuing cold, and for those that garden in extreme climates, well, you have to take extreme measures. I have great admiration for those that can deal - I am a certified wuss. I want it to rain at night, and snow belongs in the mountains.

PS - it doesn't have to be May or June. I just wanted to get some fly-fishing in, too.

I'm darned sick of this weather, too. My trees haven't leafed out, my lilies are still just starting to poke up. I spent a lovely day up in Seattle, but I missed a decent day here yesterday, and today was back to squalls off and on all day long. I'd take dry and cold. I miss dry and cold and sunny days-something I really enjoyed when I was living in Colorado

Here's 9 days later. Trying hard to grow! Getting a little greener. Get to mow the lawn today!

Look! No snow!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

YEAH, YAHOOO! But woke up to ice again in the hay field, UGH! Had to switch over to another field in the ice again. Thank goodness for irrigation boots!
Susan

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Irrigation boots - is that like walking into the stream to see how far you can go before the water goes over the top of your wellies?

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Just about. Here's a pic of them. We wear them to keep our feet dry when we go out and change irrigation pipe and switch from one pipe to another.

Here's another. They're about 12 inches tall for walking through tall grass.

When the hay gets real tall we also wear rain pants to keep our pants dry as well.

Here's a pic of DH swathing (cutting) the hay with our youngest GD (she's wearing a mask as she suffers from allergies). The tires on the swather are about 3 ft tall. It's pretty hard to walk through that and stay dry when it's wet and that tall.

Susan, I think people are going to be impressed to see your seasonal change pictures lined up all together. It's that much more amazing to see what changes occur when you put them all together. Nice job.

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Thank you Katie59! ^_^

Susan ~ I just looked at the picture at the top of this thread and, you know, you're really not that far from that. It's looking beautiful. Once everything is blooming I hope you'll post individual pix.

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

outta, yeah l have to agree with you. It will be awhile before any of the roses bloom as l had to prune them back quite a bit as they had alot of dead in them. They're mini roses. l never realized that they could get so big. Some of them were 3 ft tall. I got my hanging baskets planted and my sheep water trough that l bought at an auction planted as well. l also got the clay pots that the GK's and a little girl we know painted for us. The GK's painted their names on them, l'll get some pics and post them. I usually plant geraniums in them, but this yr l planted African Daisies in them.
Susan

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

OK, here's a pic of the clay pots. The GK' names are Maron, Keely and Liam. Keely kind of goofed on hers as she put the Y before the L in her name, but that was ok since she was only 7 then. And with the look on her face after she did it was: "Priceless"! The one on the right was painted by Malin, she's the daughter of a friend of ours.

Here's apic of the old sheep trough that I purchased at an auction. It's planted with Petunias, Lobelia and Verbena. It dosen't look like much now, I'll take some pics later in the summer after it gets some color and size to it.

The painted pots are priceless - just fantastic! And it's obvious that the sheep trough will be incredible, too - nice work!

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

Thank you Murmur! I LOVE SUMMER! I love all the color! Winters are pretty with a fresh fallen snow, but I love color! It's great when it goes from this.

I love your progressive images, very animated.
Hops? Isn't that what goes in beer?

Bend, OR(Zone 5a)

ABSOLUTELY!!! ^_^

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Susan -

They are predicting snow in all the passes in Washington tonight. It's supposed to be a February-like storm and the wind's blowing. Are you expecting any snow?

Do you guys make beer and harvest the hops for it? Or do you just use it as an ornamental vine? So it comes back every year? My mother remembers picking hops to earn money for school books in the 1930's and 40's.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Oh no - that's just not fair, oh 105, no snow! Blow, blow - souffle!
