Bright yellow makes me think of a finch. But I don't think finches tend to hang like that. That's more of a chickadee thing. Did their tails stick up a little higher and did they "flick" them? Might have been wrens . . .
I can't wait till my garden looks like this again!
Sounds like a goldfinch to me. They're getting summer plumage now, so the males are getting quite yellow.
Did he look like this? http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/American_Goldfinch.html
Now isn't that interesting? I thought that finches all had beaks for eating larger seeds like sunflowers and would have thought you wouldn't find them in a tree. But this says that they have a fondness for thistle, so maybe that was it.
Yes Susy that was him, them. had the tweering sound
Just a quick hello! Those are ALL sparrows and that's only about a quarter of them! By the time it's all said and done when they're at rest in the afternoon there's at least 100 of them give or take. Now you know why it's noisy when they're all singing at once! I have another pic that I'm going to enter, what do you think? It was snowing so hard I could hardly see the pasture.

That's a beauty!^_^
Wow. Brrrrrrrr.
oooooooooooooooooo i just love that photo.................
A little late replying here (um, yeah...I was in bed while all the bird talk was going on. Tills...I think what you have is a nuthatch. There's 3 main varieties out here ~ white-breasted, red-breasted, and pygmy ~ and a number of color variants. I LOVE those little guys, the way they just cruise head first down the tree, turn around and scurry back up, then start all over again.
Those are really coooool Pics, makes me have goose bumps aaaal OOOOver.
Sheri, I didnt see any white or red on any of them that I saw at first, just really saw the yellow one, he was just to good looking to miss, and he stayed with the rest.
wow gardner........
that looks COLD! not a very hospitable place in winter is it! lol but i bet it really nice when it stops snowing and you have a clear day with new snow.
Yeah, it was pretty cold that day. That was just a quick snow squall going through. I was surprised that I could get those pics as it only lasted for just about a minute and then it was gone. I do enjoy the sun shining on the snow, makes for a picture perfect day no matter what the temperature is, and we do have several of those.
Here is a pic of something I was just ecstatic about. HONEYBEES!!!!^_^ All over my French Pussywillow! They're above the Butterfly and a couple below it. You have to look real close but they're there. The plant was just humming with bee wings. It was so loud I could hear them about 15 ft away. This was on Thurs when it reached 63 degF. I was so excited I HAD to get my camera to record the event. That's the first time I've seen that many Honeybees in a couple yrs. I was standing about a foot from the plant taking pics, they were buzzing right by me and doing their thing while I enjoyed the sight and sound.

Always in my pocket LOL
No snow, I think that is progress.
ooops, snow again. Not good. But the paths are clear, and that speaks of warming soil.
This has got to stop. LOL
tilly, you said a MOUTHFUL!!! ^_^ I like snow but in the WINTER! DH's faint bike trail in the gravel to the driveway and Moose following it down the driveway to the gate with Brute watching and wondering what he's doing. DH rides his bike to work even in the snow.

The way you've set up the entry to the garden still looks very welcoming, even in the winter. Nice job!!
Thank you katie59!
Hey G105 - my folks live in Bend & I will probably be down in May sometime for a visit.
If you have time, perhaps we could go for a nice cuppa?
Let me know.
Katye, sounds good to me! What part of Bend?
They are east of Pilot Butte, off Neff.
I told them I'd come visit AFTER the snow is far away from the roads.
I have all-wheel spin.
I would love to meet you & maybe do a nursery visit? Let me know...
That sounds good to me. They aren't very far from us then as we live just west of the airport on Nelson 1 1/2 miles north of Neff. That's why DH can ride his bike to work at the hospital. I don't blame you for waiting on the snow, but are you sure it will be gone in May? The way it's going right now it looks more like June will be the month of no snow! Have you gone to TripCheck road cams and checked out Santiam Pass and Government Camp lately? They both looked more like Feb than Apr yesterday.
Don't you mean all-wheel slide? LOL!
I would love to meet you too. I would enjoy checking out a nursery or two with you.
Let me know about a week ahead of time when you're coming. I know the week-end of the 17th we'll be busy as DH is riding his bike in the Pole, Pedal, Paddle or rather the PPP as it's known around here. Other than that I'm pretty much free on the week-ends.
It will definately be after i can get over the pass - too much stress to drive on icy roads any more. May was ok the last couple years, but later in the month. And, it could turn into June, too! But i will let you know well in advance - I know how schedules get tight with events & life, and I'm just not too spontaneous any more!
Neither are we, we used to say let's go to the coast and just hop in the car and go. Now we have to plan for anything we do away from home.
Speaking of which, here's this weeks pic. Real progress huh, NOT! Cold temps are really effecting growth on the poor plants.:-(

Yes - but I see SHADOWS which means you have SUN.
It would be quite difficult to garen there without a Greenhouse. Such a short season , similar to the Rockies. My mom has roses that go absolutely nuts, though. And the petunias - on steroids!
We had sun a couple of weeks ago, then snow and then sun again. But things are definitely bursting with the sun. Hang on, Susan, just a little bit longer.
