Regarding the color change to the forums

When I launched DG back in 2000, I needed a good color scheme to go along with the site, and I chose my favorite color, hunter green. My thinking was, this is a gardening site so forest green would go well. Also, it's supposed to be a nice color and easy on the eyes.

Then sometime later I added different colors for different parts of the site. Forums, for example, got what I thought was a nice deep blue.

Well, it turns out that this was a mistake. I recently read a report that showed that the exact tint of blue that I had chosen was actually the least desirable of colors, and was shown in laboratory tests using rodents that it tends to incite feelings of rage and discomfort in the view. The same report recommended a new palette that was supposed to be a much more soothing and calming color. The color had a value of #FF00FF. I did some experimentation and I have found that indeed since moving to the new color on my local system, it's made me feel much less anxious about everything around me.

So, after a few weeks of extensive testing, I've updated the forums here at DG with the new color. I hope ya'll like it! If not, then maybe in 8 more years we'll trial yet a different color.

I, for one, am relieved to have that distracting deep blue color gone. This new color is indeed MUCH easier on my eyes. I hope ya'll like it, and if not, that at least you'll come to like it in the years ahead.

Wish I agreed. I find it very distracting. If it was closer to the lavender it might be better.

Oh, I LOVE Pink ... it's always been my favorite color since I was a little girl ... at age 60 it's still a favorite but that NEON PINK hurts my eyes. Must be my age.

I'm permanently traumatized.

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

Speaking about pink being calming, why do you think Pepto-Bismol is pink? Calms the stomach!

(Zone 1)

I kinda thought my eyes were permanently traumatized but I think they will get over it ... eventually!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

PINK! Why that color takes me back to the day I was born. *thunk

Great job, Dave. I reckon it'll grow on us, eh? (Now, about that value of "#FF00FF"? I fear the worse!)

Chuckling. I wasn't able to stand it for any longer than necessary to play the joke on ya'll. I knew I'd take it down soon, thus the screen capture in my first post here, for posterity's sake. :)

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Oh, man! Looks like I missed it!! Do it again! Do it again!

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Victor, weren't you permanently traumatized before the color change? LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Brinda, but in a different way!

(Zone 1)

(wish I could type in color)

There's "calming" pink and then there's "BRIGHT, AGGRAVATING, NEON PINK"!
