Harper's Birthday - Part 5!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Laurel, Wow! Sorry to hear about all your house troubles. Hope this one gets straightened out soon. Is your homeowner insurance hanging in with you?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh Laurel, I am so very sorry. Thank goodness your gazing ball escaped. . . and thank God you

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Laurel - patooweeing...LOL. I haven't thought of that word in a long time. You always make me smile!

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Dave and Carrie, I'm now in Atlanta so we can say, "If a tree falls in the woods on a house and nobody's there to see the mess...does it really exist?". I have decided to take an existential outlook until I go back next week. Then...well.

Louise, note that cute boy with the chipmunk cheeks. Why, if I was his mama!

So I'll share some pics

Those are the bedroom windows on the right.

The word is that the chimney can't be repaired, the fire box and shelf are damaged and the whole thing, about four tons of stone will have to be torn down. It will take one month and a 20 yard dumpster to tear out and replace as it is all solid stone. So much for peace in the garden.

This is all great to share with you, but I'm OK. Life is made of much bigger stuff than this or me, so let's get on with it.

What throw the stones in the dumpster? My DH would dig a hole and bury them or find something to do with them.

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Well Sherrie, the rock is attached to a lot of mortar (if I knew how to underline here I would). It is not a veneer, but several feet thick of solid stone on all four sides. I'd really not vote for a twenty cubic yard builder's pit on the property all things considered. They're saying it will be a week with two jack hammers to bring it down as it's solid stone through and through. We will have a big opening in the side of the house. I'm sad that it's going.

Laurel im so sorry this has happened but echo everyone .........
Glad YOU are alright!!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Oh Dear, Laurel. Got any tums handy??? I'd be popping a few.......lawsy me! Just keep telling yourself: This too shall pass..........I'm really sorry the news was not better. I can understand why you don't want to lose the chimmly. That photo shows it was a really big hit!! So sorry. You are sounding very brave and philosophical - and we are all in agreement that the important thing is the blessing that you are safe, but this is no fun, huh?

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Celeste. I'm ready to move on and look at the bright side. Please forgive me for a bad day here and there. Everyone here has made me feel so special. This is really and truly a great group of people.

Who says the South has cornered the market on hospitality? Ya'll are wonderful!

Oh, Louise, forgot to post the cute boy with the chipmunk cheeks pulling a plug. I gave him a bit of mine on that!

Aw geez!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

LOL, Laurel.....I thought it was my eyesight!! pattoooooooowey. LOL (And I think you are very entitled to have a dip in spirits with what has "crashed down" on you.....somewhat literally). Still feel bad for you.

You are so right about the warm hospitality up here. People are really the same wherever you go. I have always found New Englanders to be wonderful, with few exceptions that don't warrant mention. There are those types everywhere too.....thankfully, not here!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Man Laurel, that's some bowling ball. I'm so sad for you and your beautiful stone chimney. I guess we should be thankful for existentialism at a time like this, non?

Dear Laurel, I'm glad for your positive attitude as you will surely need it in the weeks and months to come. Maybe some lovely new garden plans are in order?

Now, underlining is not so hard. Type < u > only without the spaces and then < / u > to stop it at the end. Same with < i > for italics and < b > for bold.

Oh, and that little yellow smiley face is ^ _ ^ only all together. ^_^ It doesn't show up in the preview. The other HTML commands (that's what they are) will show up in the preview. Dave should add a sad face.

edited to refine and improve.

What's the throw up sign? Chimmly guy called...$33,000. We are still waiting to hear estimates on the roof and some help with repair of the yard. Trying to stay positive here ^-^ and existential. Is there a sign for existential? Maybe a peace sign?

Louise, forget the tums. The Arthuritis is kickin' in bad from chasing my she hound up and down hills and I needs me an Alky Sellser for my head.! Payttoooowey fer sure! Never mind that I have to be at a black tie event tomorrow at seven. Ooommmm.

Laurel

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Oh, Laurel!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Holy mackerel, Laurel!
That sure is a pretty penny to be spending for smoke direction.
Sorry about arthuritis, too. Ugh!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Laurel - I reckon you best be doubling that "Lawsy Me" and sending off a couple Big Patoooweys 'fore you be fixinta get dolled up to go out jukin' at the black tie ayefair. Maybe it'll take your mind off the solid gold chimmly. Oh My! Will insurance cover a quote like that??? I hope that arthuritis will back off for the duration of this "life challenge". ooommmmmm. Try to enjoy the evening....the troubles will still be there when you git back home! So sorry about the 5-figure quote!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Well.
Laurel, I am so sorry I didn't know what was happening. I remember telling Harper Happy Birthday way back awhile ago, didn't realize it was still going on. Thanks for steering me in this direction.

Scary event in your life, and I admire your resilient spirit. Not sure I could survive that gracefully. I am so glad you and the bowling/mosaic gazing ball remain in one piece. I guess I won't be upset anymore over my iris that were demolished by the rain and wind. At least they'll be back without the help of a backhoe and $$$$$$$$$$.

Good thoughts coming your way from me too.

Happy Birthday, Harper!

Oh my, that is a lot of money {{{{Laurel}}}}.

I guess if you need to be positive you could use the + sign. Craig's List uses a peace sign, which I can't seem to copy. That's a fancy, brand new car! That's enough money to swoon, repeatedly. I can't think of anything comforting to say. I'm sorry.

Cleveland,GA/Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

OK!!! This is not about ME. This is Harper's birthday (month/s/year) and we need to stay focused. There are important things going on in everybody's lives. First and foremost, for those of you living up "Notch", it's Spring! I understand that you've been getting a bunch of rain, but the pictures being posted are so beautiful. I have to say that it is wonderful to see Spring over again in your gardens! And then there are the gardens...

Not at all like mine. So organized and sculpted. Markers, labels, perfect mulches in a rainbow of hues and edgings that are as sharp as a surgeons scalpel (literary license here). I throw seeds, cuttings and cheap one gallon acquisitions in the ground and then get out the rain stick (we really have one; I'll photo it) and dance around.

So, Harper, although I'm not posting all over the place, I am seeing the progress of your Spring garden and thank you for sharing your birthday joy with my tree on the house angst. Now let's party!

Laurel

Joy comes to the indomitable spirit! Party it is!! But....hugs too!

You know that person that leads the exhibition at the museum....we're moving, we're moving...

We're going to move on. You'll probably hear me gripe plenty, but not now. Your Spring(s) are lifting me up and I don't want to hear anything else. Thanks for being there for me. The best thing you can do is upload lots of photos of your gardens and flowers. I love it all and see most threads even if I don't comment. I'm preoccupied right now, but you are all in my heart.

I think it's time to move to Part 6 . . . http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/850387/
