LOL! Gloria.
CLemen, it actually got up to 62 today - simply amazing - and sure not to last!
OK - gotta go now.
Lights out for me.
Scattelogical ramblings and desultory humor - It's spring!
Me too! but love all! Clemen
Hello folks, the talk of Authors caught my eye as I was parusing the site.....I am an avid reader and a new gardener ( Crazy into the whole butterfly habitat thing ) Just really enjoy creating a special magic place to relax and read 3 out of the 4 seasons of the year....
Peace
Welcome SJ! What part of IL is Westville? i'm originally from St. Louis...

Hi Jack and Clemen!
Welcome, Shadow Jack. I generally only read if it's raining or at night unless I'm reading planting directions. My next door neighbor is from Peoria.
pirl. You know reading on DG counts as "reading". i think you are an avid reader, as well as an avid gardener. An inspiration to us all to get out there in the dirt!
Hey! Congrats to NE forum being discovered by more and more DG members. This is where its at!
gloria
Morning all :)
Got the child off to daycare and have a few minutes before my eight o'clock class. And I even showered and applied deodorant. My.
Maypop, DH does in fact watch a lot of TV...AND he has a ridiculously full head of hair. (He's the only forty-something male I know who needs to get his hair thinned at the barber's.) Hm, apparently he is on to something...
So what's on everyone's schedule for today...?
pam
Thanks, Gloria. The thought of sitting and relaxing with a book that's not about gardening sounds heavenly to me.
On schedule for today is...gardening.
Morning! Welcome Jack. Recovery day for me - I'm very sore.
Ive had 3 days of medical tests and checkups including a colonoscopy. Im soooo glad to be home. Im doing laundry and dishes, mopping the floor, and watering plants.
Much preferred to what Ive been through. Ugh!
VG. Sore - you are mad/angry, or you have muscle aches and pains?
Ugh. Gloria, you have my sympathy. Glad it's over!
Welcome ShadowJack and Clemen!
Pam - I turn 40 this year too! Glad to know I won't be doing it alone. I'm October 12. When do you turn?
Victor, do you have a hammock? Lately, it's my favorite way to relax.
Yes, glad that it's over, Gloria. Muscle and back aches after two intense days. Going to be around 70 today!! Time to break out the shorts. I'll be putting the screens back in. I patched what I hoped was the source of my pond leak and I'm now filling. Keeping my fingers crossed. Yes, Harper, I do have a hammock, but until I do something for shade to replace the tree I removed, there is not much point.
Welcome Clemen & Jack! jack, who are your favorite authors?
Pam, I'm 53 with hair that still needs thinning. Unfortunately, my other parts don't thin as easy as they used to.
Dave
Victor, I can relate to the pond. Last year I tried a few times and eventually got a new liner. It's 80% back to normal.
40th Birthday. Time for reflection. OK. Its about half the time youve got if all goes well. What were the peak experiences? What/Who do you need to kick out the door? Usually a simple life is the best life.
Do you know who you really are and what you want out of this life?
Here is the brass ring folks. May you wish for and get the best!
Changing the liner is not an option for me. Tons of stone on top, fully planted, 2500 gallons, etc.
Gloria doing her best Barbara Walters!
Oh. Shucks!
Do it the lawn today! Clemen
Welcome Jack and Clemen from me and the cats!
Morning....welcome Jack and clemen. I do read a lot, but only at night since I don't watch much TV...well maybe when it rains, too.
strange Ky weather today. Sunny behind me, cloudy before me and wind whirling all around me......can't decide whether to moan or groan, but I think this means storms. In which case, I will dig out a book.
I do remember being 40.......
Thanks all for the welcomes....I am not much of a tv person myself, but there are a few shows I watch DVDs of to avoid commercials and so forth.....I Read more than anything..... Orson Scott Card, Some King, Neil Stephenson, Brian Lumbly, the list is endless. Dave Stone, Zelazny, Chalker.........I like just about anything, so long as the writer can tell a good descriptive story, and uses words well, like a painter.
I'm a books on CD person because I drive 13 hours a week to work and back! I get in a book a week on the average that way. I tend to pick my books by the number of CDs. Works out well, for the most part as long as I avoid the "self help" section. Can't drive and help myself! LOL
i like Orson Scott Card (particularly the Alvin Maker books) and Neil Stephenson a lot.
I like Dr. Suess.
I like Dr. Suess as well, who doesn't. The Lorax being one of my favorites.....also at the other end of the spectrum Chuck Palahniuk.....an amazing writer......I haven't read The Alvin Maker books yet, but plan to....Lost Boys is an amazing read, and HomeBody....Treasure Box, the Ender series.......
I'm a big Anne McCaffery fan. I wonder if they come on CD?
YC go to ebay and search there is a few there or click here.

Oh good. Then I can order them from my library and listen to them for free!! It has gotten so that I can hardly drive without a book.
I am listening to Jane Eyer on tape in my car as I drive......I just recently got hooked on Audio books. My big issue is that I will only listen to unabridged versions, and there are a much smaller percentage of books that are done as an unabridged version.....and they are much more costly.
Hi Clemen - yes, VG is our favorite convicted felon gardener.....you won't find a better cell-mate anywhere! If you think Martha Stewart's cell was stylish, you should see VG's garden apartment cell!
Welcome, Jack! You came to the right place here........lots of us love reading when we aren't gardening! I must check out some of the authors you mentioned. I just finished David Baldacci's "Wish you were here".....a complete departure from his suspense novels. It is set in the Virginia mountains in the 40s....good characters and well-written. I would recommend it.
I am finally taking on the Harry Potter series. I started with the second book thinking it was the first, so now I have to go back two steps and then forward. I can't stand it when so many people have read an author that I've never experienced.....especially with a grandson who will soon reach the magical age to enjoy HP. It seems like the right time to check those books out. I also enjoyed Sidney Poitier's "The Measure of a Man". I'm usually reading 2 or three books at a time, and I'm always looking for new authors. To me there is nothing more delicious than knowing you have a good book to read at the end of the day. I don't watch much tv either....I'd rather read any day.
delicious? How wonderful. A book for dessert!
I am mostly a how to book person. Having a 100 year old house sort of makes that a necessity.
Hmmmm I will look into those authors you spoke of, i always like reading a novel on someones else's recommendation.....I am not that adventurous when it comes to reading. Don't get me wrong, I read voraciously....but I stay withing the confines of authors I know, unless of course I happen upon someone else I like vicariously through another Biblioholic....lol
I am usually wading through 6 or so novels at once, several being from different series. What I love more than anything is a read that captures me to the point that I do a Cover to cover without putting it down.....one of those " Uhm.....I am sorry, but I can't come into work today because I have the stomach flue " just to finish a read....lol
Yeah, Jack.......that is just the BEST!!!
Wow!....the house I am in is like maybe 70.....But I am jealous, I love old homes....I have volumes of " How to Books "
Yikes.....I just realized that I gave the wrong title to the good Baldacci book........it's Wish You Well, not Wish You Were Here......I just saw it lying on my DH's table and had to laugh!! So don't try to find the other title....you might be disappointed! LOL
I read somewhere that a bibliophile is not determined by the presence of a library in one's house--because a decorator can always install a library--but by the presence of books in every room. I took a look around our house (1925 Craftsman, you bet we have a lot of How-To books :) ) and yup, I guess we qualify. Last time we moved, a third of our stuff was books, a third of our stuff was kitchen equipment, and a third was everything else.
I read just about anything...love to pore through my gardening books...science fiction, pulp and otherwise...those really long historical novels...anything by bill bryson...and so on...and so on...and so on...
