Don't kill yourself for us, Kassia! We will enjoy "unclean" beds of roses just as much!! LOL
I, too, am worried about whether some of my roses made it through the winter. Fingers and toes are crossed for all of us!
Spring NE Roundup - Saturday June 28th
Ya know, a month ago I KNOW I saw life in more of my plants than I do now. It got cold again, and I think some things that made it through most of the winter just gave up in March. I hope some are just waiting for a "real" spring, so they don't feel foolish.
I thinks it's so amusing when we (I do it too) ascribe human emotions, feelings, plans, intentions, etc., to our plants.
"... so they don't feel foolish." -drumlin, above.
xx, Carrie
cute
Oh, come one, have you never had a plant stare sternly at you when you don't give it what it wants? I'm sure I have....
Staring sternly I can take, but when they droop despairingly over the sides of their pots. . . My bad. I feel terrible.
I know that feeling, Emily.....and I got a chuckle out of Nancy's "feeling foolish" comment. We gardeners are generally pretty sensitive critters, aren't we??? How bad is this.....I actually felt bad about hurting my first car's feelings when I sold it.........Dave47 might agree that that is over the top, wouldn't you say???? Now I'm grown up and worry about stepping on any ants.....^_^
Cute car story! My daughter once threw herself on the hood of a car we were trading-in refusing to let it go!
I drove by the car dealership the night I "abandoned" it, and there it was....sitting all lonely in a huge "carport - like" area. It was so sad.
Hmmmm! Even my sweet, sensitive daughter wasn't near driving age when she grieved the car. You must have a huge heart (or just be plain crazy!)
a bit of both, I fear! I get attached.....pretty pathetic really. That's why I don't do this snowbird thing well......too painful to leave everything/person/plant/cat/dog/car behind. Poor PT....he'll be so lonely in the carport while we are away.......LOL
Sounds like a radio commercial for one of the car companies. The previous owner calls the new one to check on it.
I like it, whatever it is.
Edit to explain, I meant Donnie's outlook

i'm the same way, Louise. Especially when my car was stolen. i got it back, but i felt so badly for it...
Do they get jealous when you rent a car like on those TV commercials?
Have you heard the radio commercials about HD radio where the guy's car radio calls him up, remiinding him of all the good times they've had together, but the car caught the guy looking at HD radios?
Not that one.
No - sounds funny.
LOL, Amy! I just hope the car burglars don't hurt PT if they break into him while we are gone! I'm tempted to leave his doors open so they won't bash him....and anyway, who would want anything in a PT Cruiser???? Uh, OH, I think he heard me say that ..........He's been fun to drive around in here, and very good on gas. I just mean his radio is not one that the thieves lust after! (I say that defensively just in case he really can hear me.) LOL
I have a PT cruiser and I was so mad when I got rear ended.... oh I was hyperventilating....and the police officer was kind of worried... he asked me if I was ok, and I said, of course I am FINE... MY BELOVED car is hurting ! how can I be ok! ??? oh he was not amuzed...
well, I have prunned almost all of them... some minis are just amazingly strong... I am impressed!
well, today another person criticized me about my garden... I am telling you I was not asking her opinion... she is crazy about grass and shrubs... (no I am not crazy about shrubs, I like some of them but I am not crazy about them!) so this person told me that I am not even able to handle what I have because I let my lawn died and I have to think about my neigbhors and how my garden lowers the price of all the properties on my street... oh I was very nice but I told her, I really don't think I did that, but I pay soooo much real estate taxes that I should be able to do whatever I want... and I really don't like grass - in my opinion grass is really over rated... the amount of water is ridiculous... eventually I will have a thyme lawn but it will take some time!
And she told me that "we NE love our lawns and shrubs, you really need to take care of your garden" ... oh I wanted to laugh... but I told her, you know, I love my garden - and yes, it is MY garden... there is no trash around, no dead animals, I am constantly outside planting and having fun... and there is tons of MY money there... so I really don't care what anyone thinks but my friends from DG... what my friends think that matters...and from them I will take any opinions, criticisms etc.. but other people... no way!
I am telling you, gardening to me is a time I really spend with God - I will not give up, no matter what they say ... and it amazes me that people that I really love can be this mean (my family members - all but Philip, Alec and Victor) and now one of my good friends... but hey, it's life... THANK GOD I HAVE YOU GUYS!
THANKS for your friendship and support!!! and for coming here in June!
people are amazing.... just let that stuff roll off your back.... not worth getting upset over that's for sure... the only reason my grass is growing is because the lawn is between the garden beds that get the sprinkler... and with all the slopes around here it's better not to wash away my soil or be a big muddy mess
Don't let it bother you, Kass. There are always people who will criticize anything & everything.
Yeah, I've seen your yard and gardens and I can honestly say, Your place is beautiful!!! It's way better than your neighbors boring grass lots. Just ignore her and keep doing what you're doing. Sheesh, the nerve of her. She must've eaten tacks for breakfast.
Kassia, I think flower gardens are proven to increase house values. Nasty neighbor!
I dunno, Kassia... what's your neighbor going to say when all the garden riff-raf people start rolling up into your driveway in June?
ROFL!
Nancy
Ah, Kassia, well there are people who exist only to criticize . . . remember, you should only allow yourself to be offended by people whose opinion you respect - the rest are fools, and who cares what they think? ^_^
I think I might have asked if your neighbour she remembered to take her medication! (Obviously, blood wasn't getting to her brain)

Kassia, Grass is suppose to die well, actually go dormant in the heat of summer. Tell her that she needs only to close her eyes and hold her nose when she is near your house as it would be a tragedy if she saw the color of your blooms and inadvertently got a waft of the heavenly scent of your roses. DH and I garden for no one except ourselves as out property is not visible to anyone, especially to the likes of your nosey and obviously rude neighbor. I am planting more shrubs so I will be even less visible. Sorry for your assault. Big thorns to her. Or perhaps a topiary shaped to make an obscene gesture would be in order. Here is your shrub, now shove it! Sorry, couldn't resist. Patti
well, like I said to you guys... what you guys say is important! my friend was trying to make me like her .... maybe a true New Englander... I mean in her mind only!!!! lol...
oh, I think my neighbors will be ok with you guys coming...
You guys are going to love Russell - he is the Mayor of Thomas Drive... he is the best... he is about to come from FL, my nephews are I keep looking everyday to see if he has arrived yet... Russell is my best enocurager - he gives me banana peels every day... my roses love him... the ones across the street are ok, they are fine...
the one on the right - John is a sweety... he gave me tons of hostas and columbines last year... lambs years too... he is supportive... he is portuguese...
the one on the left is a pain... he is the one that broke my irrigation... he was upset and ended up planting burning bushes... which I think makes my garden look better and everyone thinks they are mine! he has a bit of a superiority attitude... he lost tons of weight (I think he did gastric bypass!) and got a convertible BMW... I really don't care what he thinks...
well, there is another one that thinks he knows everything and complains about the fact that I recycle too much! so I just pretend he does not exist... what can I do??? I LOVE recycling!!!!
the person that made the comment yesterday is a friend... a dear friend... a co-worker... she is not my neighbor... but she is not going to come for June 28th...
Michaela has actually met her! now I remember... the day (you) came here Laura came to prune the rose for me and later my other friend stoped by... I know she meant well, but I did not take it well...
Thanks for all your kind words... you people are great to me...
Hey, I may have here one lady that works with my sister and she is 88 years old, and she is a gardener like you guys would not believe it... she is very sweet!
I invited my Nursing Theory professor to come...oh if she comes it will be sooo great... what a wonderful woman! One of the best professors ever! I told her she can never retire! the nursing profession can not afford it! and I am going to invite the Community Nursing Professor also - she is also a gardener!!!! oh I love them!!!!
my boss will never come... but I am inviting him... Jeff is a gardener too... he grows awsome tomatoes... he always gave me tomatoes before I had a garden!
oh that's good Patti... in a way I wish I could fence my garden... but because of the deer... I want people to look and became addicted to roses!!!!! sweet revenge!!!!
I'm tellin ya...my next house will be on 10+ acres, no neighbors.
I'm sorry you're having neighbor issues, Kassia. Believe me, this too shall pass. It's so silly how people try to control other people, not a happenin' thing. We're all SO excited to see your yard!! It really sounds just luscious!!
now I am worried! I hope the roses put up such a show you guys get all hooked on roses!!! oh well, I can see some of the daylillies coming up!!!! and the irises are taller... they grew an inch since last morning... I did use the ruler and measured! seriously!
today all the tree roses are outside!!!! and my beloved micromini Hi is also outside... she misses the outside! if all goes ok, turtles will come out for a few minutes next week when I am home and it's a nice day so they can walk and see the world...
Hey, have any of you guys planted on an upside down pot???
Kassia - it may make you feel a teeny bit better to know that we do not have "grass" in our yard down here or at the farm. We have no patience with having to water and fertilize grass when we can put the effort into the flowers and vegetables instead. The funny thing is....down here we have been on severe water restrictions. I have not watered our "lawn" once, and our "green growing matter" in our yard (also called weeds) have been much greener than most! Native weeds/ground covers work just fine, and I don't think you should empower that "friend" of yours for one second to make you feel bad about your lovely gardens. I saw the RU photos from last year, and you have nothing to apologize to anyone for!! We can't wait to drink in your recycled beauty.........I like Patti's topiary idea!!
Kassia, as I may have mentioned, the other people on our street all have lawn services which fertilize, poison, water, chemicalize, mow, rake, etc. so everyone else has a perfectly groomed expensive (in terms of labor and resources and the environment AND dollars, which we never have) lawn. There were some nasty people up the street who had their house on the market who asked if they could come clean up our yard, mow etc. for us! Maybe we grow our grass taller than they do, maybe they didn't like our mulch, but it's OUR YARD! Honestly! You have my sympathy, dear. xx, Carrie
Or perhaps a topiary shaped to make an obscene gesture would be in order. Here is your shrub, now shove it! Sorry, couldn't resist. Patti
Oh Patti, don't tempt me! When we moved in to our new home, some exceedingly paranoid neighbors were convinced we were going to lower property values by making some changes on our property (opening up a fire easement .) They tried to sue us! Didn't go anywhere, especially when the local fire chief told them how wrong they were. . . but I want to put up a shrub like you describe!! Right in front of our house! Thuja, do you think? (Stop, Emily, don't do it!)
Thuja think you should??
Whadya YEW think?
Anemones can be friends.
Here is my inspiration, I love the topiary statement. The house art? is certainly an "in your face" reply! Ah, neighbors. For victor, my anemone.

Thanks, Patti. Very nice.
