What's Bloomin' 3

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Beautiful orchids, Diane. I had no idea you were so into orchids. I love them but don't have but a few from Lowe's. That geranium is a beautiful color.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks Gail. Yes I'm very into orchids. Just another one of my addictions! LOL
I have really been wanting to try Sinningias. Even bid on some on ebay but was outbid. However an aquaintance who works at the Texas Tech Unversity greenhouse informed me she has quite a few there. She told me to come by any time and look at everything. Now if I can just find time to go by there! But she told me she has had some kind of fungus affecting them. I knew you would probably be the best person to ask what she should use for it. ANy suggestions?

(Zone 1)

Ooooh Gail ... That is my Dream Plant Stand! I can't imagine having something so beautiful with so many blooming at once! Gorgeous!

Diane: Nice orchids! I LOVE that one that you say came in as a Catt! Wow, that color is beautiful! And, I like that Twinkles too! I gotta find me a fragrant orchid! Are all Cattleya's fragrant? I have one I bought on clearance at Wal-Mart about 3 or 4 years ago ... it's never bloomed for me (my fault, not feeding it EVER!) I am trying to do better by them and getting on a regular feeding schedule.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

No I am not the best person to ask.....................there are fungicides which are used to prevent fungus like Banrot (a professional product) or maybe Subdue to cure the fungus. But I would think she has plenty of good people to ask there at the university...........plus I use marathon as a preventative or Admire Pro (both for home growers)for mealy bugs in the soil.

I have no idea what her plants have..................

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

We are all so different, Lin............you forget to fertilize and I almost kill mine with too much fertilizer..........
Today I was outside with a one gallon container using the water hose to water all my plants outside. Each gallon got a pinch of trace elements, 1/2 tsp of 12-36-14 and 5 drops of Super Thrive. I will have to finish tomorrow. Poor plants........they are just begging for plain water! (LOL)

(Zone 1)

hee hee .. Gail, I don't forget to fertilize, I'm just lazy! I water everything with a garden hose, so to feed I have to mix the plant food into the watering can and add water and with so many plants, it takes filling that darn watering can a gazillion times to get everything fed! I was so good ... I used the VF-11 and fed everything outside the past two days. Now, I need to think about feeding the plants inside the house!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

I'm ashamed to say my orchids are about the only plants around here that get a semi-regular feeding! Heck most times my plants are lucky to get a drink of water! I'm afraid one of these days I'm going to get a big surprise- I'll be walking by one of my plants and it will grab me by the arm and croak "WATER!" LOL

(Zone 1)

LOL Diane ... I know the feeling! I've actually expected mine on occasion to whisper "help, water ... I'm thirsty, I need a drink, please somebody ... just a little sip!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, in the summer time when it is hot and I don't want to fertilize by the gallon, I give everything a soaking with the water hose and then use the Miracle Grow 15-30-15 that you use the sprayer and just foliar feed everything. I have even been known to use the granules of Super Bloom foliar feeding of a second number of 50 or 60..........keeps them blooming and happy. It is so easy to do that.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

OMG the pictures! Absolutely STUNNING!
Diane, those are VERY pretty orchids :) I tried orchids once........yeah.......needless to say, they all were boxed up and moved on to someone who knew how to take care of them *lol*
Gail, your strep pictures are simply AMAZING! I do the happy dance when one of mine has 1 or 2 flowers. My leaves are 1/3 the size of yours *lol* That stand is to die for! I can't imagine waking up to blooms like that every day! If I had blooms like that, I would NEVER leave the house :) Must be like paradise! Just gorgeous!

Hi Jim!
Welcome to our crazy little world on the AV forum.

(Zone 1)

Jan: I have two of the micro mini sinningia's ... is that what you mean by the mini's? I got micro mini s. pusilla in a trade from RainGazer last year and I got S. rio das pedras from you in a trade. Is there another one between that size and the large standards? I love these two little ones ... they are sooo cute.

Not a great picture but here's rio das pedras ... a couple of blooms still going and a lot that just finished.

Hi there Lin,That littlesinn is to cute!

From what I understand theres-- mico-minis,--minis. ---compact ---and then the big ones (I think,I'm still a newbie grower) Hope someone with more info comes along and tells us if the correct.

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

there are several sizes of sinns.micro, smallest, then mini, compact then speciosa & florist glox.

Oh........more pics from today outside.........
Check out the little flowers that are trying to open up. The hoyas are surviving the wind so far.

The begonias are singing away on the front porch in full bloom before the heat gets here.

A white blooming one and a peach blooming begonias.

The vines are swinging in the wind but that doesn't seem to stop them from blooming. I need to get out there with cup hooks and wire to train them......The wind was blowing so the pic I took of the whole plant is blurry.......wanted to get a lot of blooms in the picture but couldn't.

This Lowe's orchid is still outside with all that wind and it is happy. (3 weeks after I got her........I am shocked that the blooms haven't blown off)

Love your orchids Gail!
And the pink blooms and foliage on that first begonia pic are beautiful! The peachy one looks kinda like B limmingheana. I think they're calling it something else now but it's one I've wanted for years. I've considered ordering starts from Glasshouse Works but since I don't have a good track record with Begonias I decided against it! You grow them very well!

(Zone 1)

Gail, that view out your back door is lovely ... what are those wild flower's blooming all over? I love pink! Looks like fields of cotton candy! Your Begonia's are gorgeous. I can grow the cane type but have no luck with those ones called Rex with the pretty colorful foliage! I only have a couple of begonia's but they aren't blooming. I had that really pretty one called bonita shea that I got in trade from SnowRose last year but I lost it along with a bunch of other things a few months ago when I had the problem of some pests ... lost AV's, two begonia's, a few episcia's and two chirita's.

What vine is that in the pic? Very pretty. The flower looks similar to one of my Pandora Vines but your flower is a lot larger.

My orchid's are doing good ... I think I have a couple with beginning bloom stalks! This is the one I'm trading to RainGazer/Amy for her purple one. It has another flower that opened today.

Not a Gesneriad but I transplanted two Mandevilla to a hanging basket today. I love the red ones. Have had pink in the past but they for some reason don't do as well for me as the red.

My Hoya lacunosa just finished another bloom cycle, the only other one getting ready to bloom right now is this Krinkle 8:
