What's Bloomin' 3

(Zone 1)

LOL Gail ... all we have here in Florida is sand, sand and more sand! I don't think I will have a problem finding sand to try propagating the nuns cap orchid.

I can't wait until morning to share something. At my first meeting in Sept of the violet club the president had a Strep Spin Art and I almost died of envy. She offered me a 'wedge' of her. That was over 5 months ago and look what I just found. (I never put names so I have to wait until they bloom)

Gail that Spin Art is a Beauty and I just can't get over all those blooms on Fancy Pants..Streps sure do seem to like you!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

All my friends are saying that i am going to be sick and tired of streps come October!! (LOL) I currently have about 6 bigs trays of just leaves with babies............plus a whole stand of blooming babies...........I am nuts!

Don't you find that you kind go from one love to another love in the gesneriad world??????

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

WOW You DO have alot!! I do hear ya tho gail...my interests are constantly changing too..LOL..I have tried my hand at most of them now..lol but seems I have my best luck with av's and streps .I just get so impatient with the others....hee hee

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Gail, that Spin Art is simply AMAZING! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
I'm afraid though my friend that your beautiful hot pink baby is not Fancy Pants though. Not sure who she is and she is VERY pretty, but this is Fancy Pants sweetie:

http://www.streptocarpus-info.com/tablef.html

Think maybe you put the wrong name? Fancy Pants is a purple fantasy. That hot pink one looks almost like a Bristol's of some sort though.

Love the markings and colorings of Spin Art.......What a STUNNER!

XOXO

Here are my newest seedlings to bloom...I love the element of surprise when these open, I just have no idea what I'm going to get because I didn't even make the cross. Even if I did, it would be pretty hard to guess. Here is AV30:

AV24:

I forgot to say...and you can probably tell, AV30 is a single, lavender, pansy with darker purple fantasy, med. green foliage, standard. AV24 is single pink pansy, med. green foliage, semi or std. trailer(still not sure)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

nice pics, Violetmom!

Kim, you know what a hard time I have keeping the names right...........now I am panicked about where Fancy Pants is............I better have not sold her at the sale ...................will have to wait and see if she blooms for me.............

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am going to share some blooms but, of course, I have no idea the names. What I always do is lost the name whenever I repot. Now I am learning to put the name on the pot!!!

And here, Violetmom, has all the names!

I don't ever even remember seeing this one.....now the baby is blooming

(Zone 1)

Oooh, such beautiful plants! I am so glad this thread is ongoing ... makes my day to see everyone's "pretties"! I love that Sinningia AC1503 Jan ... those leaves are huge! I want to eventually try some different sinningia's (all I grow right now is the micro mini s. pusilla and rio das pedras (which I got from you!) I love the looks of some of the standards but some of them seem to be so huge ... I am trying to downsize and not grow real large plants ... they seem to take up so much space on the plant stands.

That Gesneriad called Phinea cuadorana is anew one for me ... never heard of it. Cute little flowers!

Gail: I love that AV 'Berry Splash' ... you know I love variegated foliage and that bloom is absolutely gorgeous!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow.........what can one say?
Gail......Love the AV's.......yep ladies.......you heard it......I said it.......I'm liking AV's (a little *lol*)
Jannich, that Sinningia is absolutely WONDERFUL! I LOVE it! What an AWESOME purple! (my favorite color *lol*)
I'm trying a few Sinningia right now for the first time from seedlings that Pier grew. So far they are doing just wonderful :) They are very new to me so it's uncharted ground but I'm trying *lol*

XO
Kim

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh jannich!!! i can't wait for my 1503 to bloom like yours. Hurry hurry and wait wait!!
You know how I can't keep names on anything so here are a few new streps. I had to call the lady who gave me the strep wedges and ask her their names (LOL)

I have two babies of this 'Remembering John'

I think 'Remembering John' has to be my second favorite Strep of all time. 'Spiritual Corridor' is at the top of my Favorite list! Sure wish I could keep the streps alive! Beautiful!

Gail, I would love to see photo's of your entire plant stands with all your Bloomin Beauties together!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Anyone who knows me knows I am compulsive obsessive about plants (maybe everything else, too).

I will have lots to share with you, Lin, with the sinningias ..........I got an email saying that I had ordered 30 sinningias and they were on their way next week. I almost died.

Before i say goodnight.........please look at a new picture of Jan's sinningias she grew and sent to me. They are still alive and doing great. Even Raingazer's tiny ones are making it in the wine glasses.

Jan.......take a look....I can't get them on one perma nest tray now as they are getting so big.

******Lin, I promise to start taking pictures of stands in bloom........

Those are blinds on a door behind Chirita Dream Time. She has gotten too big to keep.

Thumbnail by gessiegail
(Zone 1)

Oooh ... I really do want to try a standard Sinningia if there is one that doesn't get really huge leaves. Love your Chirita Dream Time ... it looks to be a big one like Aiko which gets very large leaves!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Geez! That dream time is gorgeous! LOVE those big glossy leaves!!! I'm a sucker for anthing with extra large, extra small or patterned leaves.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I tried to take a picture of a stand but I have to get so far away that it is hard to see. This is a stand (with some dead blooms) of streps.

My computer won't take my memory card so I had to switch to vista to make it work.

This picture is horrible and it only took me 10 minutes to get the computer to take it! (LOL)
glad you like Dream Time, Diane

Gail, that pic could easily go in a magazine!- Wonderful display!

Here's one of the two new orchids I bought yesterday. It's such a soft mauve color I fell in love with it.

Thumbnail by Dianesjungle
Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

This is the other new one. It has the onion-bulb looking pseudo-bulb like an Encyclia, which are usually classified in with the Epidendrums but came in at work as a CAttleya. Unusual color. ANd thats my Nematanthus Candy Corn peaking through blooming behind it.

And this is my favorite Twinkles orchid almost finished blooming. The blooms look the same size as the ones in my first pic but they're not. these are tiny little cute things with a spicy smell and prolific bloomers! Oncidium Twinkles Red Fantasy

And this is a new color Geranium our grower at work is doing. Didn't photgraph well. Much prettier in person plus the bloom are starting to go. It's a zonal called Strwberry Sizzle
