I just remembered another eerie one... I'll try to keep this short :o)
A few years ago, I got to work with a wonderful red headed boisterous woman named Carol. Carol was 59 yrs old, and planning to retire in a year. She was the type of lady who loved flashy bright colored clothing, and was very particular about her appearance. Her clothing, shoes, eyeshadow and jewelery ALWAYS matched. She had a wonderful, bubbly, loud personality and was always similing and her voice was always filled with laughter. She also had a wonderful sense of humor, often sending me colorful jokes on our office email. Jokes that my VERY christian boss would have had a heart attack over! LOL!
I worked with Carol for 10 months, and then one day while at work, she went down stairs to get the company mail and was gone for quite a while, My boss went to go look for her and we found out that she twisted her ankle on the stairs. She went to the doctor and he told her she had a sprained ankle and to stay off it for a while. Thankfully, we had an elevator, so she came to work in a wheel chair for a while. A few weeks after her incident, my boss went on vacation. Carol came into work on Tuesday and she wasnt happy and smiling. I asked how she was feeling and she just said she was tired. Tired of her ankle (which wasnt healing very quickly) and tired of working. She told me then that she was going to cut her hours back to part time for the next few months, and then retire in 2 months. She said there were alot of places that she wanted to go see, before she got too old and to ill to see them.
The next day, carol didnt come to work. She didnt phone in either, which was VERY unlike her. I tried calling her cell, and her home, but no answer. That night, I decided to call her home again to see if she was sick...etc. Her hubby answered the phone and when I told him who I was, he asked.. did Carol go to work today, I told him no, thats why I was calling.... He came home from work and she was in bed. He figured she was tired and taking a nap, when he went to wake her up, he found that she passed away! Apparently, her doc told her to stop taking the Cumadin so that her ankle would heal, and she died of a blood clot in her sleep.!
Now the eerie part:
I was really distraught with Carols passing, and mind you, the boss was still on vacation. Carol and I were the only employees, so I was all alone in the office. Her office seemed soooo empty, no laughter or snide remarks coming from that room anymore! I had to close the door, just to get through the day. Then, a thought occured to me... I had to get into her email to delete all those jokes and stuff before the boss got back and saw them! Right after she twisted her ankle, she called me one day and told me her password over the phone, so I could take care of some stuff for her. I didnt write down the password, just logged onto the computer and took care of what she needed done and logged back off. Well, now I am alone in this office, sitting at her desk, crying, and trying to rack my brain to remember that password.
All of the sudden, the computer booted itself up (it was off) ! you know that lil song that microsoft plays as it is loading...well, I'm sitting at her desk and that song played! I looked up and the computer was on, AND her email came up! Usually, we have to put in a password to log on, and another password to pull up email! I kinda got a warm feeling, realizing that Carol was behind me 100% (I felt wierd going thru her stuff and getting rid of stuff before the boss got back!) My main reason for wanting to get rid of the stuff was that Carol had worked for the boss for 20 years and he thought very highly of her.... I didnt want him to judge her after her passing... :o)
I was able to delete everything and make her look 'respectable' in the bosses christian eyes. :o)
Later, when the boss came back... he told me of the funeral arrangements. He also told me that they have to do a closed casket (hubby was planning open casket). He said that when the morturary tried to embalm her body, her body had an allergic reaction to the embalming fluid, and so now they had to do a closed casket. I just laughed.... See Carol was SO particular in how she looked, I could just invision her saying "Oh H$#@ NO! No one is going to see me looking dead!"
LOL!
Another eerie... Carol had a topaz jewelry set that I always admired. We talked numerous times about where I could buy one, etc. She told me where she got hers, and said she could introduce me to the jeweler...etc. I couldnt afford to buy the jewelry set ...so I just kept putting it off. On that Tuesday, her last day at work, she was wearing that set again and we again had our conversation about it. After she passed away, I decided that I HAD to buy that set. I went to a department store and found a similar set on sale! As the cashier was ringing up my purchase, I was teary eyed and told her the reason for my purchase, she gave me an ADDITIONAL 50% off! I got that topaz set for a great price, and now every time I wear it, I think of Carol. I know Carol was shopping with me that day! :o)
Spooks and ghosts and weeping ladies...oh my!
what a great story. Thanks for sharing that.
Oh my gosh, I think your story is awsom...all of them, you have been gifted with "sight" you know. Really!
I think children see, hear more clearly because they haven't the fear that we do.
this is not eerie but rather an observation of the mind... every single time I am driving on the road (not speeding at all), and think of a police figure, literally 3-5 seconds later a cop either drives by, or I passed by one in their hidy hole. I swear it a great ability, like a built in speed radar.
Also, once I was driving on the highway approaching a really bad sharp curve you had to slow down for. And the thought came to mind what if I didn't slow down and hit a 18wheeler infront of me? I shook off the thought and 4 seconds later as I rounded the curve, I saw a car that hit the back of an 18 wheeler which was turned on it's side.
My draw dropped.

Rebecca, I know what you mean. That stuff happens to me all the time.
I was leaving work two months ago, at 4:20 and made a left turn at the end of the street. As I was making the turn, I thought of a news story I had heard about a year ago, a man got shot by a stray bullet while driving his car. I remember thinking...where did that thought come from?!
the next morning, when I got to work.. my co workers told me that the gas station/car wash at the corner (where I made my turn) was robbed at gunpoint at 4:25. 5 minutes after I drove past there! The sad part of the story is, they robber ran down the street and shot erratically at the gas station. One of our clients was sitting in her car in front of a music school, waiting to pick up her son. 2 bullets went through her car, one right in front of her, and one right behind her. The bullet went through her car, through a wall of the school, through a piano...and hit her 10 yr old son in his side. The bullet severed his spinal column. They are saying he wont walk again... This just tears me up inside! They caught the shooter, but it just knots my stomache at the damage he did to this sweet lil boy!
Anyhow, that next morning, the boys mom came in to take care of her car damage, and when she told me what happened, and that it was her son that was injured, well thats when I realized that I had that thought just 5 minutes before it all happened. I couldnt tell her though, and she was obviously distraught about her son. But it really freaks me out when stuff like that happens. I never know if its just coincidence, or my over active imagination, or a 'gift' as some people call it. I think sometimes its a curse! When my sister drove us off that cliff, I was terrified for the whole drive, cause I KNEW what was going to happen. I was on edge and tense for hours before it happened. :o(
Now when I have thoughts, dreams, I just get scared and worried. :o(
All of these are great!!! It's not a curse to be able to 'see'. It's just that you don't know how to handle it when you get it. Maybe you could find someone to coach you?
Oneanjl, I'm sorry to hear about your friend but she's still your friend. ☺
Lol! Yes Kwanjin, Carol goes 'jewelry shopping' with me all the time (much to my DH's dismay!)
:o)
LMAO
I think I need to tell Darrell about that! He'll get a kick because he thinks I'm channeling one of the De Beers family!!! ☺
Hmmm, now you got me wondering if my great-aunt (big gardener in her day) goes garden shopping with me?! LOL! I got some really good deals shopping today LOL!
Kwanjin, Oneanjl, LOL! (I can think of worse vices - at least yours are "investments" rather than "consumables"!)
Bonnie
I agree, I cant imagine what that topaz set is worth today, with the price of gold going up...hmmm maybe I could sell it and buy my GH with the proceeds? Naw, gotta keep it... but I think I might check the value of some of these other trinkets I have in the jewelry box :o)
crimonstsavo - can you tell us more about the 'goblin thing' that you saw? You are the 3rd person in 20 years that I have heard that from. I know someone that sold their house because of it and will never come back in this area again.
I just came upon this thread. It's a good one for spooks.
I love the radio history and I love the 'pretty ball'. That brought tears to my eyes.
I'll share, though I don't think I know any of you. What better way to meet, huh?
I have 2 stories. The first was when I was about 19. My father lived in a very rural area off of a road called 'Cude Cemetary Road' and, of course, there was a cemetery about a mile away. In fact, our family plot is there and I have many relatives, now deceased, buried there. I've never been afraid. But to get to a grocery store or a convenience station back then was an hour drive. My step brother and I decided to head out one night to the store around midnight. The store was in the opposite direction from the cemetery, along a dirt road that you had to drive about 20 miles. No homes, no major roads....nothing but an old rail track that was no longer used. For miles, you could only see high grass and there was really no need to keep this back road up. I had a little sports car at the time and we were flying with the sunroof open and the windows open when all of a sudden we both (BOTH OF US) saw the figure of a man in the middle of the dirt road. I had to swerve to miss him and the car ended up faced in the opposite direction. When we stopped, we both got a good look at him and he was a short man with long white hair, a long beard and wearing overalls. That's about all we could tell. I yelled out the window asking if he was okay. No answer. He turned and walked towards the tall grass and disappeared. It was almost as if we could see right through him. Scared the heck out of us. We didn't drive the rest of the way. We went home. There was nowhere that man could have been from. Not for miles and miles and miles.
Next story, and this one is more uplifting. When my daughter was born, she and I spent many nights alone as my ex husband worked nightshifts from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. During that time, I always had her sleep with me. The front bedroom of the house was our office and my bedroom was in the back of the house. The door to the office always remained closed when we weren't using it and I had a paper shredder that was plugged in at all times. That particular room is also next to the front door which has windows. If someone drives into our driveway, I can see their car lights from my bedroom when the door is open. It makes a reflection on the walls. So, one night, (daughter is about 6 months old), we're alone and sound asleep. Every door to every room in the house is closed but my bedroom. I waken to lights.....I think someone has pulled into the driveway. The front of my house is designed that the only windows are in that front bedroom and the door was closed tight. I got out of bed, opened the front door and there is no cars at all (I'm at a dead end....it takes time for someone to turn around). I open the door to that front room and check through the windows....I see nothing. As I'm walking out of the room, I smell a faint burning smell and then, all of a sudden, sparks start flying out of that outlet that the shredder was plugged into and in a matter of 15 seconds, the entire thing catches on fire. I called 911 and covered it with a blanket. Something woke me up out of a dead sleep to go in there. I swear, it had been weeks since I opened the door to that room. I've got goose bumps now, just thinking about it. I believe someone or something was looking after us that evening. I was made to get out of bed and check that room.
I've also had the experience of dreaming someone close to me had died to wake up and have it be true. I hate those dreams.
knolan, Nice to have you join us! Thanks for adding your stories to the group. The man in the road was weird. But maybe he was there to turn you around for a reason just like the lights made you check that room.
You know....I never thought of it like that. Perhaps you're right. It certainly makes sense.
Thank you for the welcome. I've got goosebumps all over again.
Still want to hear more about that 'goblin' creature as I've heard it before and it scares me a bit. I want to see if it's described like the other folks. From the stories I've been told and for some reason, these tales scare me to high heaven (maybe it's the kitty window). It's an unusual occurrence.
The torn page is not of my doing at all. That's how it came out when downloaded on the digital camera. All of the other pictures are picture perfect size.
I thought it was a tree trunk lit up by the flash.
( but can't explain the bearded man tho)
Really? That's an interesting thought. I had to look again but I'm not seeing how it can be a tree trunk and a flash. I know...it seems stupid and I'm more than a little spooked. I just can't explain it away like that.
I thought it was a tree too. But what is the puff of smoke looking thing?
Well, you did have to use a flash to get thepicture right? Just a funny thing about what a person has in mind setting them up to see or not see something...Butthere are black dotts where the 'paper is torn away' that I think are tiny shadows from rough bark.
But then I'm a skeptic, despite the many stories here that I do belive are telling the truth. I can still maintain a little skepticism for any new item.
Like I am skeptical that I'll really go to sleep now, but I have to go try. Good night!
G'night Sally and pleasant dreams.
Really, I am skeptical too. I really am.
These are things I just can't explain. Yes, I did have to use a flash when taking that picture. I took at least 50 pictures in those 3 minutes and this was the one I couldn't explain. I would not have posted it if I didn't believe that it was something unexplainable. I'm not saying it's anything......I'm just questioning what it might be. It doesn't make sense to my sensibilities.
Wow....that's a neat picture. I couldn't say what that is.
Obviously
an albino chipmunk doing the jitterbug while you were clicking
Is it somthing swimming?
Hahaha - albino chimpunk.
kwanjin, the lost city of Atlantis?
kwanjin....photo from an aquarium....?
Knolan... Welcome...and ... wow! I have been 'woken up' for a 'reason' many times. Also 'delayed' many times, just to see a bad accident happen right in front of me... I have learned to just relax when I'm running late... I'll get there when I'm supposed to :o) Keep listening to that inner voice-or outer voice...it'll save you money on tickets! lol!
As for the picture, I didnt even notice the 'torn page' part, as I automatically saw it as the flash bouncing off the tree bark. what I did see is the white blurry thing, looks like its leaping back out of the picture?!
The problem with photography and 'unidentified objects' is depending on the type of camera you have, and settings, you can get all kinds of wierd looking 'things' on your pictures because of the way that flash, lighting and mirrors in lenses work together. also, if youre using a digital camera, with auto focus...the focus could have been centering on the tree (closest object) and then the white blurry stuff is the light bouncing in the lenses....
AnjL
Great pictures and creepy too. I've seen the same kind of thing on those TV programs with the pros. That's kinda scary, LOL
oneanjl, I'm like you I listen to that "inner voice" too. It's gotten me out some potential nasty situations. Actually, that's one thing they teach you in women's self defense classes. And I think their related. You need to learn to trust your
"gut" instinct. I think your inner voice is an extension of that. Science doesn't understand very much about how these things work, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. At least in my opinion. :)
Welcome Knolan
Good guesses. My DH said it looked like ghosts flashing past the camera. I said, no, they're sea turtles from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Some kid bumped me when I snapped the pic.
We can be fooled by lots of things, especially if we choose to be fooled. I am all the time! LOL
Egg drop soup. I love that one! And the chipmunk...
Aha! My first guess was going to be a bad flash in an aqaurium with dolphins or whales. LOL.
Thank ya'll for the welcome. It's nice to be amongst this welcoming (and funny) bunch.
Now.....get me scared again.
yeah! I got it right! lol!
AnjL
Ya'll are funny!
For the rest of you....regarding the 'torn picture'....you're right...it's bark with a bright flash. I am terrible, just horrible, about filing my digital photos and I had to go through them all, one bye one. Found the original and, yep,it's the bark.
I know....flashes can play a trick with the pictures. Lot's of different tricks. But.........what is that thing in my picture that looks like a white 'thingy' jumping out? And what's than in kwanjin's photo?
Have you ever had the goosies and had the hair on the back of your head stand up? It happens to my dog all of the time. Something spooks her. I can't explain everything but I can say that I get spooked too sometimes.
BOO!
I'm up too late, again, and am going to bed. Sweet dreams to all.
One more thing.....I'm a night time gardener so I should see anything creepy. Right? I wear my LED headlamp and my ghosty pajama pants when I work late at night. Someone will eventually have me committed but, for the time being, my yard is looking GOOD!
lol knowlan... and I thought I was the only midnight gardener! I even had DH install flood lights so I can still work at night :o)
G'Nite
AnjL
You my kinda people, I'm after DH for more lights, so I can garden at night when it gets so hot. LOL Hadn't thought of a headlight, I like it! Good idea. I can't take the intense heat anymore, so I have to do it very early in the morning or late in the evening when the weather gets hot. Since half the time I'm up till o dark thirty anyway, I could get something constructive done. LOL
Maybe I've mentioned this here before, but a really fun book addressing some of these unexplainable, is Spook by Mary Roach.
I have that one and the other she wrote. They so much fun to read, as well as informative.
