eeew! but I'm sure he'd love it! Thats part of the reason why I dont want to use any poisons :o)

Hi again. ecrane3, I swear to god, the salt kills them even in the rain. I know how the salt works because my extreme obsession with killing them had me also spending hours and hours researching all about them (that's why I know their life cycle, breeding habits, about how many offspring they produce, etc.) Hand picking is crucial in controlling their population, but is generally recommended as only part of an ideal approach, since they do reproduce so many offspring so quickly. i don't know if you've ever killed snails with salt, but they do die immediately and it takes VERY little salt to kill them. They "melt" as soon as contact is made (it's gross...they actually liquefy...yuck) And when I toss a handful of salt into a shrub, and then shake the shrub, you can hear them fall out and hit the ground. You could shake those shrubs all you want without the salt, but those suckers hold on tight and not a single one will drop!). I know that I do use more salt than any gardener would recommend, but it's not so much that it's damaging the plants that are there. Another reason I swear by salt is that it doesn't act as a BAIT, like Sluggo and some of the other products. So you're not attracting snails and slugs INTO your yard.
