What's Blooming Part II

Sinningia 'Ruffled Wood Nymph' - another micro Sinn. And I actually like the little green moss stuff that always grows around the micros. Doesn't seem to hurt anything, and I think it's pretty. :o)

Chirita tamiana - First one to ever bloom for me and I absolutely love it!!

Thumbnail by RainGazer

And this isn't a bloom yet, but as long as I don't mess something up, it will be! It's an Orchid - SLC Purple Fantasy. See the spike, top middle of the picture? I've had it since June 07, and it's the first Orchid to ever spike while completely under my care. All the rest of the Orchid bloomers I've bought in bloom. So, this being my first, I'm elated!! And don'tcha just love those fat green Orchid roots??? ;o)

Oh, I forgot about this one. Meant to post it a couple weeks ago. It's not blooming like this now, but it was so lovely!

Absolutely beautiful Rain!
LOVE your baby sinns :)
I truly enjoyed my Tamiana and now have 3 seed pods ripening :) I love that one too :)
Congratulations on your first Ochid spike! That is REALLY a feat in itself! Can't wait to see the blossom :)

Yeah!

Kim

Thanks, Kim! I'm so happy about that Orchid spike. I've been getting more Orchids along and along and it finally hit me - what if I can't bloom them??? LOL I guess this helps to answer that I can! Now if I can just get my Den. kingianum to bloom, I'll really feel like I've done something! LOL

Do you have any micro Sinns, Kim? If you don't, you need some. When it warms up (and this reminds me that I owe you an answer to your dmail - forgive me, I'm quite ditzy sometimes) I'll send you some Sinn. pusilla plants. I've got tons and more coming up!! See all those seedlings in the back? I just pulled a few of the mature ones out of here to send to Gail and sowed seeds in the bare space the left in the front. They'll come up in no time!

Edited to make sense. LOL

Amy ruffled wood nymph is soo cute.Love its colors : ) Those mini sinns always amaze me! Oh your Tamiana is neat looking! Congrats on the Orchid bud!! I have given up on them..Any orchid I ever buy ends up in the garbage after I get frustrated about never being able to get them to rebloom..lol..be sure and post pics as soon as you get a bloom! Your P.Forrestii sure was loaded with blooms..looks great. Sorry to hear you lost your Evergrace..If you want any leaves just let me know!! Your Mona Lisa is calling to me...lol

Nancy, from what I understand, Sinn "RWN" won't come true from seed (and may even be sterile - I can't remember, but I've never gotten seeds from it.), or I'd have them sown and be sharing that one with everybody. I need to get brave and take cuttings to start it, but it's so darn tiny I'm scared to! LOL

I still have the Dendrobium you sent me. Actually, I killed the mom plant, but I rooted up one of the keikis and it is throwing up a new growth now! :o)

Thanks for the offer of Evergrace, but I'm taking it slowly with AVs, trying to see if I can figure out the trick. Gail sent me a few to play with and I'm going to see how I do with those before I get anymore. The funny thing is, I can grow them like wildfire from leaf, but I can't ever get them to bloom!

You just might find 'Mona Lisa' on your doorstep one day! ;o)

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Amy, I think it was Lin that kindly offered one of her micro white sinns to me a while ago. So although I don't have any sinns other than Tamiana, I think I have a baby basking in the Florida sun *lol*.
The Mona Lisa is VERY easy to root Amy. I took 3 cuttings off mine in October I think it was and all 3 cuttings rooted and have buds on them. Don't you love the way it always has buds on it? I keep trying to find places to take more cuts but I don't want to cut any buds off *lol*
I don't exactly know what I will have big enough for a spring trade but don't you worry friends.........Fall trading for me is going to be FANTASTIC!!!

I think I have corrected most of the hurdles I faced with my first experience and am FINALLY seeing some successes ;)
I have some REALLY neat things coming and CAN'T WAIT to propagate every piece I can! Fall will be my BEST trading time.
One thing I have learned...........it takes time for things to grow and be big enough to separate. I'm trying to learn to be more patient.

I would NEVER have had success without all the help and support of all you ladies and I can't wait to share my babies with you all!!!

Hopefully when spring hits Maine, things will "liven up". I truly think my streps are in a "dormancy" right now. Not dieing but no new growth either *lol* Just kind of sit there and say "we're waiting for spring" *lol*

Hope you all have a Fabulous Friday!

Great growing, Amy! I too adore the little Micro Mini Sinningia's ... of course the only Sinn's I have (so far!) are micro mini S. pusilla and S. rio das pedras.

It sure seems like some of us grow the same exact plants.

Here's a photo of (in back of photo) Chirita 'Aiko' with the yellow flowers, Chirita 'Crossroads', and front row micro mini Sinningia's 'pusilla' and 'rio das pedras' and two little Chirita 'tamiana's' which bloomed a few weeks ago.

Lin.................that Aiko is the prettiest thing I have seen!!!!!!!

(Zone 1)

Isn't she pretty, Gail? I Love pink but I just happen to have a thing for yellow flowers too! And, I love purple! Oh heck, I might as well say I love all colors of the rainbow! LOL.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

WOW- Have I ever been missing out this morning! Beautiful growing everyone!
Making me very jealous. I have to work more this time of year and am really worried about the propagating thing I wanted to do to trade with everyone. Just hoping I can find time to keep everything going. :(
Lin- Yellow is my second fave after pink too! Love your Aiko! Looks like it has different color shadings in it on my computer.

Lin Chirita Aiko is so pretty. I think I have that one, I'll have to look. I know I have a Chirita that has never bloomed and the leaves look similar to yours. If it's the same I sure will pay it more attention.

I Love your "Pretties" Gail ... and you have sooo many! What Hoya is that last one with the yellow flowers??

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, the lady who sold it to me called it Cinnamon hoya...........later on the hoya forum someone identified it but that was before I decided to start putting IDs on each basket.......

When you send me a bulb of Orchid Nun, I will send you a very very full pot of this particular hoya that never stops blooming and only has a fragrance early in the morning and at night......and it does smell like cinnamon.

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Gail,

Do you happen to remember if they said the name of that hoya was Obscura?

I can't see the leaves real well but I'm thinking that's what it might be.

Just a wild guess though :)

I need to take the time to find that thread where the pros identified a lot of my hoyas (LOL). I don't think they will be too patient second go round! Let me find a close up picture of the foliage.......it is not a solid leaf at all.

This is one I took at the nursery that is exactly what my gold blooms are.............look at the back of the foliage that looks like cinnamon.

I can't believe your obscura is that big and blooming!! STUNNING! And yes, that one is Obscura. I know because I have 1 cutting of it rotting in a cup and am hoping Pier will adopt it and try to save it for me when she comes over tomorrow *lmao*

WHAT are you still doing up this late? *lol*

Just got home from Jess's swim meet! Wow, can that girl swim :)

Sleep well my friend.
