Carol, Love your blues...all of them!
DG garden
Thanks - I love my blue flowers . . . I try to find more and more all the time. I have a lot of Blue Phlox . . . bought a flat of it a few years ago and put some in every single bed in order to sort of tie them all together.
Tills, I'm so glad it wintered over for you. Some nurseries tell you it won't, others say it will. I've had mine (and it has spread a bit, plus I've divided it successfully) through at least three winters now (including last year, the coldest snowiest one in many a moon!).
Is the phlox truly that blue and not purple?
It has done fine, its planted to the left of the trellis, you can see your white spoon, I have another plant I will send you, Its blue and I don't have my book in front of me Its in the car, I think its a coneflower Or maybe a cornflower will check, has a nice clump with large fuzzy leaves. I'll get back to you on its name. thought I had a pic.
Carol,
I also have black and blue...if my blue sapphire Salvia returns I will save some for you! It is very close to the same color blue as the black and blue but the calyces are lime green instead of black.
Well I need to go to bed...
Sweet dreams all,
Carla
Hi everyone! Got home late and been going since 3am so will try and get it all at once.
Tilly- You are set for one King Red. I won't let my Mom see the next columbine! ;-) You guys did a great job with the Buddy Memorial. It will be even better this summer.
Kayte- it is a woody stem, like buddleia, and the same leaf color but soft.Formed a good size root ball since the Green elephant swap, when I got it!
Carla- I do want the hot lips. I also have black and blue and a a few others. The Acontium is coming up if you like dark blue to purple flowers. Must have been 3' tall covered in those cool helmet shaped flowers. Also, my MIL was chosen for the Marysville Garden Tour. I think it is the first week of June. I got to go! They have one of the nicest diy gardens you will evr see! Was runner up in Better Homes and Gardens 3 years ago.
Katie- I would love the Stella d' oro! We got to get a few dry days to get some rocks moved! Would you like a canna in return? You may want to see what I get from mamajack this June. Supposed to be some real rare ones!
You gals have been great to me! Thank you all so much. This garden is sort of a tribute to all the friends I have made and to show that this is more than just a web site! You old timers already know, but to us newbies its like finding the Rosetta Stone for gardening!! A gain thank you all so much!!
Get to bed, Gordon!! Up since 3 a.m.? That's crazy. And I'll "break off" some Stella d'Oro for you. I have so many, I'm planning on planting them all around the property this year, along with my abundance of Shasta daisies. I would love any canna - they are so awesome. Just need some instruction on how to keep them over winter.
It's still pretty wet here - it'll take several dry days in a row before I'm ready to mow. I'll let you know how that goes. It'll tell me if we'll be able to get any traction with a truck. Thanks!!
Cannas overwinter real easy. Just cut to the ground with a few inches of mulch and thats it! There has been one in a large pot at work for years now. Mine all came back so you should have no problems.I have more shasta daisies if you want.
Swamp land here so I know it'll be awhile. Just wanted you to know I haven't forgotten.
Carole, this is the blue Cornflower,'Centaurea montana' Hav a few tha have sprouted up.

Gordon, thank you. :-) i have a very sunny deck - maybe a canna arrangement or two would be just the thing this year.
And thanks on the Shastas - but I already have too many . . .
You are such a big dreamer, Gordon! I love it!!!
Hey Tammy! Big dreams are little realities! And I will take whatever I can get!
LOL Wait till I get done with what I have been working on and send you a pic!!!
Please do! i'm worried about you! We need to move you here to the NW. Not so many mean people!! And you would love the little group up here!! The accepted me so that says something!!! ;-)
I will once I get it all done, which might be tomorrow since there are so many! There are 3 EE, though! :) Thanks for the concern, it is greatly appreciated!!!! I know from what I have read from people in your area they are very kind, generous, and NOT MEAN souls!!!!
OOOhhh!!!! I got 4 EE and two Richard Wallace cannas at the little Ace Hardware for the amazing low price of $10.The EE bulbs were HUGE!! The 4 must weighed 1 1/2 lbs easy! And the canna bulbs were growing!
Well, I got a whole box full for 10 bucks! :oP
You are the luckiest girl around!!!
With MOST people here, you usually can't go wrong! :)
Did you get that from Tropicanna? I am doing a trade with her this week. I finally found something she wants, and I can't just let her send me something with out sending her anything!!;-)
Nope, not from her. It is my secret! :oP
AAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Misty - please feel free to come hang out here with us. You're in a tad colder zone, but we won't hold that against you! Love to see your pics & hope you accomplish your current project soon! =:0)
Thanks, Kayte!!! I want SPRING!!!!!!!!!!! I don't seem to be getting any more done this evening with the current project, though. :(
Hey Katye I have a hellebore question! Got mine today from Heidi and was wondering if they would do ok in full shade? They are beautiful and want to give them the best enviroment.
Hey Misty, yes your are most welcome, we are a fun group. We did accept Gordon, He is a joy LOL
And we LOVE pics of all kinds.
Tills
LOL Tills!!!! And thanks! :)
See I told you they are a great group!! I'll start looking for a house for you!!
Yes, they sure are! You gonna pay my rent, too! HA HA HA HA HA
Gordon - the answer is on the other thread! Again - mine are in full sun among other plants. Remember that we are pretty far north, so the amount of time that we have intense sun is quite limited & pretty much: August! We are in a maritime climare which tends to cool off moreso than an area that is inland. The rule of thumb here is that most plants will take more sun than in other regions of the country, but there are exceptions. Good thing to inquire, and see what kind of results others have had. I want mine to flower ALOT, so they are semi-protected in full sun. If i had a location with only morning sun (until noon or thereabouts) I would plant them there knowing they'd be just fine.
Gordon, Laurie gave me a link to a site on Hells. let me find it you will like it.
Gordon here it is, great info.
http://www.plantdelights.com/Tony/hellebores.html
Thank you Katye! I read them both!! It is hard to gauge exactly how much room I have anywhere! So many plants still dormant just waiting to burst forth! But I do have room where they would get good morning sun. I will be planting Mon.
PDN, I should have known. Know someone who knows Tony over there. The guy is kinda strange but a smart feller for sure. I have bought plants from there and use there order guide as a resource often. The plants I got were great! One thing I did notice that I did not know before is that they are not fond of soggy poor draining soil. That may change where I put them. Not alot of dry well draining spots in my yard! Must be why the others did so well, big pot half full of packing peanuts!! Also suprised he describes them as full sun , but do well in shade. I have only heard of hellebores as being part shade.
Thanks for the link Tilly!
Just think spring!!!
Packing peanuts ???????????
Sure, packing peanuts. To fill that giant pot up it would have took 1/4 yard of soil, so I filled it half full with packing peanuts. My mil says they do it all the time in those large pots you see in office buildings and such. Makes them lighter and well draining.
I use packing peanuts also - even have been known to break up big chunks of styrofoam into small ones for the same purpose.
Misty, glad to meet you - looking forward to pictures!!!!! There's a darling little house down the street from me that is for sale . . . right on the little lake (Honeymoon Lake, which is also the name of our community). The house is tiny - 600 square feet - but it is on a double lot - incredible room for gardening . . . and there are basically no gardens there now at all so you'd start from scratch. There is a nice dog run so if you have a dog(s) you're all set. Should I send you the info? Whidbey Island is terrific . . . and the people who live here are really special. LOL
Oooooh. I think it's a plan. Misty, think about it. The winters here are so much easier than in Missouri. And the summers are more temperate. And people really are pretty nice, especially when you get onto the islands . . .
