DG garden

Snohomish, WA

I will save you a City of Portland. All my cannas have done well here. You will have no trouble with the one I give you. I'll bring one inside and give it a head start so you can have a plant to take home! :-)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Hey Gordon, very nice meeting you, and hope we meet again, and when we do could you bring me some rocks, LOL. You are a inspiration, and love your mind so much is in there.

Snohomish, WA

Well after much thought I chose to do a raised bed by my Grizzly Adams Arbor. Got boxes and edged it in firewood with big rounds to burm against.

The finished(?) project. Started planting things but a few I don't know who I got it from or what it is. I may not have enough room for everything! But the point is to show the generousity of the Dgers I have met , whether in person or via DG web site.

Looking good Gordon, what are you going to plant there?
Got the finishing touches to Need Ideas tread.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

We over posted.

Snohomish, WA

Did you give me a hosta Tilly?

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I think so, also gave you a blue columbine I started from seed.

Snohomish, WA

The columbine I gave to my Mom, she was born in Golden, Co, so it is special to her. The hosta is in the back left corner so it will get shade. When it comes up the rest of the way I will try to id it.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

You want another one?

Snohomish, WA

That would be great Tilly! I am bringing cannas and iris and who knows next month to the plant swap in Newcastle, are you going?

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

No sorry I can not go, Work Work you know. but I will save for your for the trip to Heidi on the 27th.
Would love a Canna, save on for me.
I feel very special you gave it to you mom, I started those them from seeds.

I have some seeds and was thinking about those as the next run. Were they hard? Good germinators? I will save you a canna, have Red King Humbert, City of Gold And Portland, your choise!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Hey Gordon - did you make it to Wells Medina today?
I had to go to lunch quite early as my day started with a meeting at 6 am.
I decided to run by WM because it was not raining, and they are unloading new things daily. Glad I did - i found a beautiful Chinese Tree Peony, some more Verbascum violetta, Purple Angelica, and Uncinia.
I darn near applied for a job - they are hiring, but I need to know what % discount I could get, LOL...

Snohomish, WA

I couldn't, the bosses dad is dieing and I am sort of running the show for a few days. Next Tues for sure Kayte at 1:30. Was at Flower World Mon and they have their coleus in, 9 varieties, very cool. Trying to save a little for my trek to Dragonfly on Fri. Also found a cool polemonium 'bris d'anjou" and a evergreen climbing hydrangea perfect for the bowling ball on rebar.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Ok - i will mark my calendar. haha, but i go there to eat my lunch at least 3x per week.Too bad they don't serve food up with the plants!
P. 'Bris d'anjou' is very nice - especially when it's mature & has a little heft. i'd forgotten about that one until you mentioned it.
There are some very nice Stewartias at WM - makes me want another for my front yard. Mostly they are unloading lots of nursery stock - the perennials will come out next month. Maybe the sun will too.

Snohomish, WA

Ok I will make it a must for next Tues. Hey do you have any idea what this is? Rachel pulled out of the middle of the plastic covered part of her garden we worked on. Might have to wait for some sun to shine on it before I can tell! Come on last frost!!!

Hard to say, but I am guessing a butterfly bush, one of the buddleias

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Gordon it's Verbena bonariensis. Here's the link to the plant files http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/141/

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Those can get a bit out of control, but I like them - the way they sway in the breeze, so light and airy. And they do pull up easily if you end up with more than you want.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

I agree Carole :0) Fortunately they have the nice shallow roots, wish that a few other plants had those as well!

Snohomish, WA

I wish alot of weeds had those!! The other (?) plant is this one. Almost looks like buddleia but the leaves are to big.

Hi NW Gordon this looks like senecio. Full sun good drainage. Just a guess. Heidi

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Or Stachys? http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/38676-product.html

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Senecio greyii? Is the stem woody?

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

Oh Gordon your DG garden looks fab! I cannot wait to see the blooms this summer!
Remeber to save a spot for the Salvia "Hot Lips" I am saving one for the Canna "City of Portland".
Are there any things you are specifically looking for? You are welcome to come and have a look around my gardens.
Great work,
Carla

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Hey Carla -

What do you have interplanted with your Hot Lips?

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hi Katie,

Here is one of them, it is with a dahlia, daylily, blue sapphire salvia and rocks and landscape lighting...lol
I have about 7 in my gardens and about that many more in the greenhouse. I love this plant, I plan to put one in the front yard too! LOL
I cannot seem to find pictures with the other ones in them.

Happy gardening,
Carla

Hey Gordon, I want the Red King, I know how you are with seeds. LOL
I will have a nice big plant for you, but this time dont give ti away. Ha Ha

Got Buddy's site done, Me thinks it looks Great.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Mary, Buddy's memorial garden looks great. I'm sure you (and he) will love the fragrance of the lonicera as summer comes in.

Carla - Your garden always looks so nice and neat. My goal is to get a red salvia with a little bigger blossom and put it with the Hot Lips that Katye gave me, in addition to some shade of orange and goldy yello, I think. Does anybody out there know of a salvia that goes well with it? I have a few sites to check and I might e-mail them to see what they recommend.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

If you want blue for contrast, I love Black & Blue Salvia - and also Argentina Skies, which is a lighter shade of blue. The tall blue flower in this photo is the Salvia, a Caryopteris (I think) is the smaller one.

Katie, what did you do with the one I traded with you? I have the Stella d Oro still....

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

Katie,

I have 2 Red greggii but there flower is just as small as the "Hot Lips" the Sapphire Blue is the same color as my Black and Blue but the calyces are lime green instead of black. I think it would look great with an upright red Verbena in front of it...

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Oh, my, Carole - that is awesome. I have some black and blue that I'm hoping overwintered and I've also had salvia patens cambridge blue that I didn't overwinter well. I like that dark foliage with them, too. I'm just not sure about the red with the blue. I'll have to try it.

Oh Carla - I can't remember. Did you give me hot lips? I remember that you were trading it . . . but I don't remember that you had one for me. I don't think I have another . . . I'm so sorry that my brain doesn't retain information better. You dig give me phygelius cuttings, though. I hope the Stella d'Oro does well for you this year - I have lots more for anyone who wants it.

Gordon - do you want some Stella d'Oro daylilies for your DG garden?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Funny, Carla - that's exactly what I've been looking at on highcountrygardens as a companion. LOL So would lighter grays or chartreuse do better as a contrast or would contrasting colors do better? Hmmmmm. Oh the agony and the joy of planning.

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

I don't even have phygelius cuttings??? I am not sure who gave you the cape fuchsia...not me lol
I do have them all...black and blue, sapphire and red verbena...lets wait and see and i can probably give you starts unless you are in a hurry? I can pretty much root these 3 I am sure...

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Wow - well, I pretty much have lost my brain. I would have sworn. Hmmm . . . will spend the evening trying to reprocess that one. So sorry, Carla. Can I blame it on winter?

Oh, I'm totally not in a hurry at all - if you can root cuttings, I'd love some. But I should probably make sure to document where I got them. :-/

Oh that's troubling. I am so confused.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Carol, gave me some Black and Blue last fall, it has overwinter just fine, its now barely showing signs of waking up, Its been in a pot in the cold GH. Gotta check yours out.

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

LOL...it doesn't matter, we are getting older...haha
I will do that, here is a close up of the two salvias, later in the year they had become inner twined and I loved it!

Carla - sent you an e-mail. So I have your rooted cuttings planted and in my "greenhouse". Just remembered that they were phygelius and not salvia. Feeling better . . .
