Hey Don,
Adult beverages will be most welcome! I am so glad your irises are giving you joy.
See you Saturday! Woo hoo!
IRIS GARDEN TOUR/BBQ/POTLUCK-4-26-08
Just confirming we are in... I'll bring a long table and my pickles.....I might be able to pick some artichokes for a yummy dip, and my carrotts are ready too....looking forward to meeting ya'll...if it's ok....it's our weekend to have the boys (17 & 13), the 17yr old will be staying home, but Kohl will be joining us....I told him he has to weed for hot dogs...he's a joy to have around, I'm sure you'll fall in love as I have....
I'll bring a cooler of wine/beer/ice tea....if there's anything else, just drop a line...
See ya there, Lisa.
Thanks Lisa. No, if you pull weeds, you get a hot dog AND a burger! Let's all of us just sit back and enjoy the day and our wonderful friends that we would have never met had it not been for Dave!
Thanks for all the added goodies everyone.
See you tomorrow. If anyone wants my cell phone number, d-mail me...just in case.
DH has a computer job to do on the way there, and you know how those things can go!
It's very close, but if we're going to be late - I have your cell number and will call, Weeg.
Don't stress about getting there at 12...we'll eat when everyone is there, no hurry. Off to set up the garage down at mom's...you all know the iris garden is at my mom's where I grew up? I was going to tour the garden then have the bbq here, but it's just more convenient for us to stay there. It's going to be a warm on, dress cool.
Be safe on your way.
I am not going to make it, this time. I just don't feel up to it at the moment.
Carol and I will be there. She's driving to my house and then I will drive to your place. Looking forward to meeting every one. I hope there is a shady place for me to sit! Don't do heat very well!! I'm an office person, you know!!!
OH, George! I'm sure YOU and I will be missed. We will be there in spirit; I am sooo jealous. I have been putting my plants out to harden off the last couple of days here in Iowa and now over the week-end we are getting back around 30. So I drug them all back in. It is snowing in Eastern Iowa.
There will be plenty of shade and a fan going in the garage.
George, feel better. I'll miss you.
Arlene, you'll be missed of course.
One of my earliest memories ( I believe, actually,THE earliest) was of my Mom and I driving cross country to Virginia when I was about 3 and crossing the Mississippi river about midnight and laying on the back floorboard with "The Shrimp Boats Are Comin',There's Dancin' Tonight" playing on the radio. Who knows why these certain things stay with us, but that's what tomorrow feels like....the shrimp boats are comin', there's dancin' tonight............. I've made Greek Salad, Butter Rum Cake to be made this eve.......
Licking chops over here! Don't stop dancing tonite, continue til tomorrow!
Lisa, I will take you up on your earlier offer to bring name tags/labels. How many does that long table you have seat?
If anyone has a few extra chairs, we may need them. I hate to ask people to cart big things like tables and chairs but I've run out of resources here!
We have a few chairs we can bring. We're bringing the trailer to get the windmill anyway.
Thank you Kathleen.
I'm bringing 2 chairs, my table won't fit in the Cherokee....it's a BBQ, I'm sure we can manage to eat from our laps.
That's ok Sherry, chairs will be fine. I think we'll be fine.
OK...I'll let somebody sit on my lap if seating is scarce!
Wait...the widmill can seat 4 !
Oh boy, a dual duty windmill! We'll bring four chairs if anyone is counting.
Mike.. now there's a gentleman!
I am Kathleen, just want to make sure everyone has somewhere to sit.
Hi Louise,
Just wanted to let you know that my mom and I will get there about 12:30.
See y'all then :-)
karen
Once again...for all who missed today's gather...I'm so sorry that you weren't there because this is the best group of people and we always have a good time. The food was excellent, it was nice to meet weege's (and for her Mom to let us all gather at her place)...and I found some new irises....
THANKS,weege!
Weege: Thanks for making us feel welcome, it was nice meeting your family as well. We are enjoying the meyer lemons, and the whole house smells great because of them. I'll be talking with you soon, I would like to buy a few of your beautiful iris's. Thanks again. Lisa.
Thank you so much, Louise, for putting on such a lovely bbq party! It was great to see everyone and share such terrific food and conversation :-)
Thanks from my mom and myself,
karen
We had a great time yesterday, Louise. Your family is so welcoming - especially MOM! Thank her again for the lemons.
Your irises are beautiful, I was amazed at the variety - and DH was impressed with the immaculate layout.
Sharon, I'm sorry we missed getting acquainted, but hopefully we'll make up for that at the RoundUp in June.
I'll post pics of the windmill soon - it's spinning away on the hill. Thanks again, Mike.
Pictures?
I was beginning to think that this BBQ never happened. No one was talking about it and where are some pictures????
This was the first RU that I have missed and I really missed you all so much. I know you all had a good time. My trip with the garden club was fine, but it will never equal the DG friends gatherings. :-))))))
Donna
You are so very welcome everyone, thank you so much for being there even though it was miserably hot. I hope everyone is keeping cool today...I know we are.
Donna and Arlene, it did happen and I missed you. I took my camera with me...didn't take one picture. Booooo.
Again, thank you all for coming and for everything especially the company. I enjoyed the day so much, it just went so fast. You're all troopers for sticking it out in the heat.
I appreciate the plants Sherry and Chuck. Could you please tell me again what they are? I didn't write them down. Kathleen, I will drying some rosemary. And also, I forgot to give you your plumeria cutting. I'll mail it to you along with some irises...did you say you wanted some purple and white ones?
It was so nice meeting the newbies, Sharon, Carol and Lisa. (Lisa, that boy of yours, he's going to knock the girls out if he hasn't already!)
Looking forward to the RU now to see all again.
If I missed anything or anybody, please know everything you did is greatly appreciated.
We were all too busy to think of taking pics...you should have been there to remind, Donna. I'm not a picture taker,so didn't even think to take camera.
weege, the plants are 2 nutmeg geranium and 2 of the allium tuberosum/ garlic chives...they will reseed. The nutmeg geranium can go in full sun, it's been out in the sun so far. The growth of the plant is a 'tighter' mound in full sun, will grow to about 1 ft tall x 2 ft wide. I prefer to grow it in lightt shade myself....the structure is looser, more open, flowers reach higher...just a more delicate look and the plant lasts forever. In sun, they seem to only last a couple of years for me.
It's still 95 here at 4 in the afternoon...I got spoiled by all of the good food yesterday and not having to cook, so I'm not cooking tonight either...just not sure exactly what we'll be eating. I'd like to have a potluck every night.
I had my camera and never took it out, either. It's 98 outside, 89 in. We've just done the nec financial shenanigans to order the a/c so we won't have to worry about it this summer. We're having fun watching the windmill - but it stopped quite a bit today. :-( When our breeze fails, it really gets hot here.
Weegy, you don't have to mail anything to me. Are you sure you weren't thinking of someone else for the plumeria cutting? I'd love one, you bet, but don't want to gain by someone else's loss! I loved that Batik or the one I couldn't remember the name of, like bodalacious or something. My brain is half gone, girl! They were all beautiful.
Glad someone got the rosemary! Ah, the breeze just came up again - I'm going outside!
k
P.S. Donna, George, Arlene, you were all greatly missed. See you in a couple...
Well OK; next time I'LL bring the camera!
I vote for a potluck everyday of the year too Sherry!
Kathleen, in the plumie forum I said that I was going to cut back my HUGE plumie and you and 2 others asked for a cutting. I will be cutting it tomorrow, it's the white one with really big blooms and very fragrant. Unnamed. I would share Batik but it's now big enough to divide and I don't have one named Bodaliscious! Let me think of some of the names that might sound like that and I'll get back to you. It's on the tip of my tongue right now but my brain is also half gone!
We had the cameras Arlene, just never got around to taking pictures and now I could kick myself.
George, I hope you're feeling better, we missed you.
I left mine in my truck, too. (Was too bust worrying about getting some of Karen's potato salad before it was gonzo ! )
Hope you're feeling better, George.
Donna/Arlene...we missed you guys.
It seems apparent that unless Arlene comes to every get together, there will never be proof that there was one.....we can't be trusted. We were too busy eating, drinking, talking....
Oh, NOW I remember about the plumie! Duh...
Could that other iris start with a 'C'? It was over near the street, maybe three rows in, and the name had an unusual ending like -icious; it made me laugh. Purple and white, Batik was almost the opposite of it in coloring. Not to worry. I would be happy with anything you have too many of! But I sure want to know that name!! lol
So glad you all had a great time. I bet it was HOT out there. It was hot everywhere. lol
Soooo, did everyone talk about Don's RU? Now we have to keep that ball running and I need to get busy sending out lots more invitations to all the area members.
Donna
Kathleen, I think I remember you saying you liked Splashacata, could that be it?
Another hot one here again today but I guess we'll start cooling down on Wednesday, so I hear.
We'll ALL be at the RU Donna!
It was really nice meeting all of you and the food was so good too! Louise, Thank you for all your time and effort in making the BBQ Top Notch! I enjoyed looking at your iris garden and meeting your mom and girls. I especially enjoyed holding your little pooch! She is such a sweet little thing. I had my camera there also, but I didn't think to get any pictures. When I get hot, my brain doesn't do so well! I am nice and cool today in my air conditioned office! Again, it was nice being with such a wonderful group of people!
That's what it was, Weegy - I knew there was a 'C' in there somewhere. LOL
Why are some names so easy to remember and others not?
Because Kathleen, there's some funny named irises!
Sharon, thank Carol for coming, she's a fun lady and I can see you both love irises.
The only bad thing about the whole day was that it went to darned fast and I couldn't sit and chat with all like I would have liked. There's always the RU!
