IRIS GARDEN TOUR/BBQ/POTLUCK-4-26-08

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I will be having an iris garden tour on April 26th. We'll have a BBQ/potluck afterwards. I will provide hamburgers, sausage, hot dogs and water. 12:00 P.M. til whenever! It's located in Chino.

I'm hoping that the garden will be in full bloom for us, it's spectacular to see!
I will post directions and address a bit later. Everyone is welcome, friends, family, everyone.

ADMISSION: 1 weed pulled from the garden! If I have alot of people, alot of weeds could get pulled! (I'm just kidding.)

So jot the date down and I hope everyone can join us. I had originally thought we could tour the garden and then come to my house for the BBQ, but I've decided to have it at the garden, my mom's property, and boy is she going to be surprised when I tell her!

If anyone can provide a few tables and chairs, I would appreciate it.
Thanks everyone and looking forward to seeing you again!

I'll be there. Is there a "theme" ? LOL

(Man...Weege will do anything to exploit free labor ! )

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

weege...which would be more helpful for me to bring?...hamburger-hotdog buns, relish, catsup, etc. or desserts? Or anything else of your suggesting...
Sherry

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I will have all the hotdog/hamburger buns plus the garnishes. Dessert would be great Sherry.
I meant to mention that the 26th of April is a Saturday.
Mike, let's make it a Polish theme...everyone wears babushkas! (I'm Polish and a babushka is a scarf if I'm not mistaken!)

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Okay, dessert and a salad of some sort (probably cucumber, tomato, green onion in rice vinegar sort of salad) and I do have babushkas. I hope amarantha can come....(and bring that potato salad again!) I wouldn't try to do potato salad and compete with the standard she set last week. Polish theme...does that mean Polish Sausage?

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Thanks Sherry, not Polish sausage but Louisiana sausage. The best bbq'd.
A dessert and a salad will be great!

Okie-dokie...

I put the date on my calendar Weegy - I'll think of something to bring later.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Ok, thanks Kathleen.

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

I'd like to come, and yes Sheri, I'll bring potato salad :-)

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yay!! I'm making it today, right now, BTW, but I'll bet it won't taste as good as yours. Killing time on DG while the potatoes are simmering. If I go back outside I always forget something's cooking...lol...

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Will be there only in "spirit" - have a great time!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Darn it Arlene, wished you could have made it.
Yea, Karen's coming!
So far coming:

Kathleen
Mike
Karen
Sherry
Donna (maybe, hopefully)
George and Sue

Glad you all can come.

Louise, I'm pretty sure I can make it too. There is just something that I'm waiting on for that date and should know soon.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I sure hope so Donna! It wouldn't be the same without you! Did you notice that most of the pictures at Arlene's were of you?!?!?!? See, you are loved. I'll put you down for coming tentatively.
Thanks!

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Yea, I noticed that too. It showed how large I've gotten this winter. YUK. lol

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Oh stop Donna.
Hope you can make it.

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Hey, I'm coming.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I'm so glad George, gotcha down!

Hi! Weegy!! I am sorry I am replying so late. Loida and I will be happy to attend the Iris garden tour and the barbecue. What would you like us to bring? Also, is it the Iris garden tour or the barbecue that starts at 12:00 pm? We will work our church schedule around another opportunity to see the wonderful folks at Davesgarden.

Thanks!! We really appreciate it.

Chuck and Loida

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

That's ok Chuck, there's plenty of time, I'm glad you're both coming!
Since the bbq is at the iris garden, (mom's house) there's no set time for either. Get there when you can, no stressing! A sidedish for burgers and hot dogs will be fine, something simple, I appreciate it.
I originally thought we could tour the garden and then come up to my house for a bbq, but I thought it would be fun just to sit and eat and talk whilst we all admire the irises. I sure hope they're in full bloom for you all.
I'm looking so forward to this and seeing all my buds next month.

If anyone coming to the party has a willow tree (any type), can I beg a few cuttings? I would like to try using them to root cuttings. Apparently if you put a willow piece in water, it exudes a hormone that aids root growth. I like to try natural stuff. :-) I have a little pot of curly willow Dovey gave me, but it hasn't grown much yet, so I don't have extra to cut.

K, I don't know about over your way, but Green Canyon is lined with willow along the creek just around the intersection of Green Canyon and Winterhaven. Actually, Ostrich Creek across from River Village also and along most all of the creeks around here. You can cut armloads.

Thanks, Sherry. I don't go "off road" anymore, but I'll tell DH in case he goes for a hike. :-)

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Silly, on Green Canyon you can park, open your door, step out about 6 feet and get willow branches. You could even do it in your stilettos...lol....

oh, come on Kathleen...live dangerously for once !

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

To be honest, I don't know where Green Canyon is! And I don't know if I'd recognize a willow, unless it was weeping! And where is Ostrich Creek? If it doesn't have an address, I can't find it. I thought you meant some place like our river bed. There are some strange people wandering around/living in there. We walked to Estrellas (Mexican restaurant at 76 and Camino del Rey) once and it was spoooooky. lol

Mike, I've lived dangerously in the past, but I don't heal so fast anymore. :-) DH insists I take the cell phone with me to work in the garden.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL !!!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

K, Green Canyon is right down the road from my place, you probably took Green Canyon when you came by here before. Green Canyon runs from S. Mission to Reche Rd. So if you're on Green Canyon, heading toward Reche, just after the stop sign at Winterhaven, on the left hand side of the road, there's a creek that runs along the road and those are ALL willows growing there. They're probably looking pretty chopped up right now, the road crews have been by with their big bush eaters. But there's room to park there to grab some willows, cattails too when they're in season. Ostrich Farm Creek is down by you...across Mission from River Village...it's land owned by the Land Conservancy and left wild. If you're going home from Fallbrook and you turn right on 76, immediately to your right on the side of the road is a small sign that says Ostrich Farm Creek. Almost any bit of creek around here has willows. And yes, I wouldn't go wandering through the brush along the rivers by myself, either. Entire villages living there.

My request has been picked up by a secret friend, so I won't have to go wandering around the creeks, but thanks for the info - I really don't get out enough to learn about these places. Going to your place was like an adventure, and I mean that in the best way. :-) DH wanders around the back roads, but I have a tendency to get lost, so I now have his old GPS!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Okey-dokey.....

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Kathleen...given the size of your property, I think some strategically placed signs with a crude map on them and the words "YOU ARE HERE" above a big red X is imperative !

That or I need to train one of my birds to be a retriever!

JD
We are flying to CA tomorrow for Easter with the children. We leave again on Tue but I just wondered if you had gotten over to dig stuff for Weegy.

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

Weegy, Loida has two really great recipes she has prepared just recently. One for zucchini bread and one for sugared carrots. Would either one of these be okay? I am thinking about dividing a Hirpicium armeriodes v. armeriodes (Grassleaf Mat Daisy). Would anybody be interested in one or two of these divisions?

Everybody, Have A Nice Day!!

Thanks,

Chuck

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Sugared carrots sound really good, a good sidedish for hamburgers and hot dogs!
Any thing will be just fine Chuck.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

How 'bout if I bring some chips and homemade cookies, Weegy?

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Perfect Kathleen!

Yorba Linda, CA

Weegy.

I was thinking of bringing some home made apple sauce. It would go well with the other food. What do you think? I don't know yet what Carol wants to bring!
