Put me down for a Tomato Onion Tart from the Gallic Kitchen in Dublin, Ireland.
Western Regional DG RU -Food thread
Gotcha Arlene. Thanks!
That tart sounds so good!! Can I just reserve a chair by the food? :o)
Arlene, I picture tart as sour/sweet, I can't imagine tomato onion with the word tart. Is it a quiche type thing?
Tart refer to the pan it is baked in (not the flavor) which differs from a pie pan.
A tart pan has straight sides (some fluted, some not) that turn out neater than the slope-sided pie pans. Most tart pans are made of metal, and the best have a removable bottom, allowing you to slip off the outer ring without marring the beautiful crust. They are not as deep as a pie pan.
You can make sweet tarts or savory tarts; this will be savory.
It is not quiche as that has a base of milk and eggs with various flavorings.
Arlene the chef in you comes out. lol
Thanks for that clarification. On reflection, I know what kind of crust you are speaking of and I get it.
Well I look forward to this dish anyway.
Here in the USA we seem to make a lot of pies. I am guessing that tarts are a European thing (at least you always see them for sale in French Bakeries).
Yeh true.
Put me down for colcannon (basically a cabbage & potato casserole)
Sounds great, gotcha down.
Carpool thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/848018/
Okay, this Irish theme has opened up a whole new can of worms for me.... I don't really drink...not against it, just never did like beer, never acquired the taste for wine. So I don't bother with it. I do admit to having an 'uneducated' palate for alcohol as I do seem to pretty much like B&J wine coolers, margaritas I do love......
SO, having said that I would bring Irish Cream Brownies, I finally remembered to pick up a bottle of Irish Cream. Having brought it home, thought that I would taste it....WOW! this is some seriously yummy stuff! I do remember one evening many years ago becoming quite enamored with whiskey sours, so maybe I have an affinity for whiskey. I can say that I don't think this bottle will make it into the brownies, that will be the second bottle,or maybe third bottle....
See what you've done with this 'Irish' theme?!!
Begora...the lassie has found the good stuff!! Jo
Sherry you are a crack up.
Has Don and Pam created a monster?
Weegy my dd let me taste this great desert someone in her job makes, it has pistachio pudding in it and I thought it would be great w/ the Irish theme, but I don't want to make both things, the cabbage rolls and it, do we need more main course food or deserts? I think a lot of people drinking will not do deserts unless they do it before drinking. Who knows I may get the recipe and make both but I doubt it, too much going on right now.
ROFL Sherry. I can just see you with that bottle! It's quite good on the rocks, too. I never liked beer until I went to England and tried ale and stout. Have to say I prefer it closer to room temp than ice cold, and Guinness is my fav, but so rich and filling I usually stick with 1/2 pint. I think perhaps our palates "mature." ^_^
The second posting...Post #4602852... will have all the updated dishes for the menu, be sure to check and make sure I didn't miss anyone.

Sorry Kathleen, we cross posted!
K, it was pretty darn good at room temp, but yes, on the rocks sounds really good...except I think I could drink even more, faster that way. We went out with a group of friends tonight that we haven't seen for awhile and I don't drink, had a coke.....but I come home and there's that bottle of Bailey's sitting there. I always liked Kentucky Bourbon Cake too....the kind where you pull it out every day and douse it with bourbon. Good grief, I'll be turning to whiskey in my old age.....
I had a friend I grew up with, she lived across the street and we spent alot of time back and forth. Her stepdad took us to school every morning in high school, bank manager, very taciturn, never said a word. I don't think he said one word to me in four years. Her mom was very proper also. So, some years ago her brother moved to where I live and her folks were down visiting and I went to see them all. Her dad was absolutely charming, very loquacious...I thought it was because now he could talk to me as an adult...nope....she says the change came about once he retired and they started drinking a couple of bottles of wine each evening. Perhaps I'll take my bottle of whiskey and go see them....
Nevertheless, I will save some for the brownies....
Oh, Harold, I mistakenly said Chuck is bringing the Watergate Salad, I have YOU down for that. Sorry about that.
Here's the list of everyone who said they're coming to the RU. If you don't mind, please let me know what you'll be bringing in the way of food. The second post above is updated with the menu so far, please let me know if I missed anyone. Watch the second post when you're trying to decide what to bring so we don't get 2 or 3 people bringing the same thing.
Thanks eveyone.

So do you want me to bring the stuffed cabbage still or another green, yummy desert?
Dawn, I have you down for stuffed cabbage rolls. Looks like the desserts might be ok right now.
Also need someone to bring plates, napkins, utensils and cups.
I wonder if we'll need to bring tablecloths or if Don and Pam provide those.
Does it look like I've missed anything?
I can bring plates too.
I'll bring the cups and napkins.
I guess I will bring the Ever Asked for Sopapilla Cheese Cake....Jo
I already gotcha down Jo!
hiya guys,
I received a dmail from Louise (weegy12) regarding the entree Pam and I will be contributing to this event. After long and arduous debate we decided to ask the proprietor of our local pub to prepare his family recipe for fish and chips. We've rented a commercial fryer and will be preparing both beer battered cod and barring any potato famines we'll also be serving crispy, fresh chips. For those of you who don't like fish and chips, it certainly appears that there will be plenty of fabulous dishes to partake of. We'll also be providing malt vinegar and tartar sauce for those who wish to have some authentic Irish fish and chips prepared by our friends at Kilarney's Pub. I'm thinking that Robert (balvenie), who is a marvelous chef/cook will take the first shift on the fryer followed by me who is almost guaranteed to start a fire or burn myself....lol. So for anyone interested in some pyrotechnics or anyone with nursing experience......stick around...lol.
Less than two weeks to go and this is really getting exciting!
best to all,
don
WoW! I love fish and chips! Excellent idea. Can hardly wait.
Fish and Chips? Is that Irish?
I loveeeeeee fish. :-)
D.
It's coming from Kilarney's Pub Donna, sounds Irish to me! I'm looking forward to it.
Oh, forgot about that. lol
:-)
I took an Emerald Isle sour cream pie made with my new recipe to a potluck Bar B Q today. It was a great success and I returned home with an empty pie dish. I'll bring two ten inch pies.
Loyd
Yum Yum....sounds like a plan to me!! Jo
hiya guys,
I know that the English will say that the fish and chips belong to them and I'm not interested in and orange vs green showdown. All Pam and I wanted to do and will be doing is to unite the UK .......lol. (as if that were possible)
Lloyd, that sounds amazing!
Our whole premise for this theme was to allow for all of us to find the "instant Irish" in all of us. Kind of like finding the instant German in all of us at Okterberfest.
Next year will be something entirely different.
best to all,
uncle skippy
Fish and Chips for me. hmmmmmm
Hey, DH and I are a "blended" (English & Irish) family! It can be done!
Fish & chips is great! And even malt vinegar! Yum....
There's still quite a few people that have said they're coming to the RU but haven't gotten back to us as to what they'll be bringing. There's only a little over a week til the big day! Remember, Don is having an Irish theme with fish and chips, all side dishes are welcome. Still need someone to bring plastic utensils. Check the second post above to see what everyone else is bringing.

Louise Rodica and I could pick up the plastic utensils if that would help. (Only catch is you have to take us to get them)
