Western Regional DG RU - June 7th, 2008

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

You know, I think that Loida and I are not going to be able to make the RU this year. I really don't have the heart to as everything was scarred by the hail storm and the winds last month. I am just going to try to save what I can. You can tell the leaves that went through the hailstorm as they look like something is eating them. The new growth is coming slowly but surely. I won't be able to bring any plants and I am kinda down about this development.

have a good time!!

Chuck and Loida

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, Chuck, we don't care if you don't bring plants! I still don't have much to share either. If that's all that's holding you back, do please reconsider. We'll cheer you up!

Kathleen

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

We will miss you & Loida . . . you are kinda spoiled as your weather is always so nice. In Iowa we deal with these high winds, threat of hail, tornadoes, surprise freezes way too much. So we have had to learn to roll with the punches. It WILL grow back!

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

I forgot to say, Chuck, the lemon grass is doing great. Now I just have to learn to cook with it!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I know it's kinda difficult for you and Loida to make it on Saturdays, but we'd miss you. Perhaps there are plants being offered that you'd like to take home to help replace what you've lost, or ones that you're looking for. Anything in particular you're looking for? Having something to trade is not necessary, you know that.

Here it is, the day before....I suppose everyone is like me, watering everything 'cause we'll be gone all day tomorrow, and cooking food. I had to squeeze in a run to Plant World to see if they had any salvias in that I don't have (they did, they did!) and to see if I could talk Andy into making it to the Roundup. Andy Maycen, one of the co-owners of Piergrossi's Nursery in Vista is now a DG'er also and I was hoping he could make it tomorrow. He and Don could talk salvias and I could listen in and learn more....If some of you are not into salvias, you may not know what a group of experts we have as DG members now on that forum. That may be the case with other forums dealing with other plants as well, but salvias are my thing, and we're lucky to have them with us at DG. I have to go make Pasta Salad......

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Well, I was going to start baking, but it got so hot and dry, I decided to do it tonight or in the morning instead so it doesn't dry out. It's a quick bread, not yeasted, so it doesn't take long. Picked up some Irish butter and Dubliner cheese to go with!

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

I worked in the yard today and had to come in; couldn't adjust to the climate change very well; so I'll go back out this evening when it cools down. (Us Iowans have THICK blood).

San Diego, CA

Baking on a day like today? yuck!!!!!!!!! You should all come to the Temecula farmers market tomorrow morning, buy fish from me, and then bring it to the round up. lol
Mark

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I didn't know you sold fish!!! Now I understand. lol

Donna

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Mark, do you normally do the Temecula Market? One is being started at the school in Bonsall in Sept. I'm thinking of selling there, but will see how it goes from home first....the one in Bonsall will be on Sundays, but it's new so hard to tell how well it will turn out. Do you do La Jolla?
Sherry

Crossville, TN

I have my baking done...

What are ya'll talking about HOT? It's not hot here...I am loving this weather...after all...I am from the Southwest Forum...The toast of Dave's Garden....LITERALLY!!! LOL

See ya tomorrow! Hugs Jo

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Well, yeah, Jo - but look where you're staying!! Ocean breezes, 5 star accommodations, beautiful garden with all its benefits...
Rough, ain't it?

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Well thank you Kathleen for the lovely description of Jo's accommodations. lol

Yeah, she's been well taken care of and well fed too. We have had a lovely visit too.
The weather couldn't have been any nicer for her stay...in the mid 70's.

Crossville, TN

SHHHH Kathleen...Donna will be over run with reservations!! I'm already trying to get her to rent me the Guest Suite!!

We have had the most marvelous time! See you later today. Jo

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Well, once again I don't think there are enough ways to thank Don and Pam for all that they do to make possible gatherings such as we had today. A simple thank you isn't enough but, Thank You.
Sherry

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

We just arrived home and are both beat.

Don and Pam, what can I say....it was another wonderful DG gathering and I know we all had a fabulous time. Harry, with Andy's Orchids was a wonderful speaker and I know we all learned a lot about growing orchids now. Your mother and her friend did a beautiful job making those lovely Cupcakes and helping out with everything.
Your crew of workers were also splendid as always, please thank them for all their hard work.

Were you missing any doggies after we left? I'm surprised that Toby didn't go home in someone's car this year. I wonder if he missed Mike this year...lol
Oh well, all your new doggies are sweethearts too.

Thank you again for everything,
Donna

Bob and I had a great time and I agree with Sherry, a simple thank you doesn't seem to quite cut it but I also want to chime in with a sincere Thank You. The weather could not have possibly been any better, either. Food was great! Had lots of fun meeting you guys as well as the four-pawed variety :-) Saw a baby colt that was just adorable, too. Dr. Don's and Pam's cactus collection was amazing. Also, I could live on Dr. Don's and Pam's front porch. Wonderful.

Thanks again and so nice meeting you fine folks.

Jackie

p.s. Sherry, thank you for the lovely plants. I can't wait to make tea :-)

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Yes, I came home with goodies also...the polygalas from Jackie, Japanese Blood Grass from Donna, Passi and amorphophallus from Mark, geranium cuttings from weege, impatiens from Don, a dragonfruit seedling from greenwytch....Thank you to everyone!

Must add another thank you to Don and Pam and everyone else who worked so hard to make this such a great day. The fish and chips were outstanding! Don and Robert (and anyone else who took a turn cooking) - job well done; must visit that pub.

Thank you to everyone for plants; Weegy for that awesome plumie and the geraniums, Don for the S. madrensis, Donna for the bananas :-)

Dawn, I hope you made it home OK without any problems.

Marie and Rodica - see you next year! JO! It's always so good to see you.

Wonderful day - haven't eaten so much in months and I know I'm on sugar overload, but I don't care!

Crossville, TN

This old gal is feeling her age tonight...but she sure did have a good time today!!

It was wonderful to see so many good friends ...and to see Arizona so well represented...and Washington!! To all lthe new people I met...I enjoyed your company very much...I hope we meet up again next year.

Good night now.....Jo

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

So...yesterday was the RU...but why hasn't anyone posted pictures yet?
Is it still going on ??? LOL

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

What a wonderful day it was! Everything was absolutely wonderful. The food was as usual, delicious...the fish and chips...I had 3 big pieces of fish. Those cupcakes...wow! Almost too pretty to eat but I managed to ruin 2 of them! Don's mom is a doll.
It was so good to see everyone once again, it just goes by too fast.
Thank you to everyone who gave me plants, Donna, Mark, Don...the poppy is going in it's perfect spot (shade) today. Arlene, the brug cuttings are rooting now (got good advice from Rodica and Marie) and Tony already has the banana planted in the perfect spot. He was very happy with that! Thank you, thank you, thank you all.
It was just a perfect day, the weather...especially the company.
Harry was very informative, I'll be repotting alot of orchids today and hopefully try my hand at mounting some too.
Rodica and Marie, thank you for making the weekend even more special!
Hugs to all and see you very soon I hope.

What a great day. I may not eat again until July! Pam and Don, thank you again for hosting this event at your beautiful ranch. Your home and your horses are beautiful. Fiona is a very happy girl. I will send pics of the "Frog to Prince" when I have time to grow him.

I cannot say thank you enough to all of you who welcomed Rodica and I to your round up. You all are a great bunch to hang out with and I look forward to next year!!

Louise we love you and you will not be able to get rid of me ever!!!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I second what Marie said and I add to that you can count on us to be there next year and don't even try to leave us out.
I had such a great time. You all made me feel like I knew all of you forever and Louise is not only California people that love you, now Arizona people love you too (at least two of them).
Thanks a million and see you next time.

Rodica

Crossville, TN

Rodica...add this old AZ gal tot he list of those that love Weegy!! It was so nice to see you and Marie at the RU...it was really great.

Thans to everyone who made it special for all of us...you know who you are....Jo

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Awwwww, Jo, you are all too kind! Love you all too. Our Arizona friends are welcome to the land of "fruits and nuts" anytime!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Weege is definitely da bomb !

Temecula, CA(Zone 8b)

WE love Weegy!!

I couldn't have said it better myself.....oh yeah.....I said it first!.....but no sentiment could ever be true-er.

Thank you all for attending this year's shindig! Those Ari-zoneys that came are always welcome and will never be anything but honored guests. Both Pam and I are pleased that you guys did feel welcome as we endeavor to make all those who visit this humble chunk of purgatory.....lol.

You are all hereby invited to next year's tribute to the original host of this roundup as Pam and I are making the whole thing a bit of an Italian affair..........with ALL the trimmings. And yes, that may include an Italian stripper that moonlights as a garbage collector named Nunzio.

Thanks to all of you for coming and enriching our lives once again.

best to all,
don

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You guys are just too wonderful. I am so honored that all of you have come into my life, you all make me smile. I've made some wonderful friends here that's for sure.

Next year's shindig sounds great Don. Ummmm, I don't know about Nunzio though! Looks like Tony will be able to make the next one, he'll be an ex restaurant owner by then and if I don't break the truck again, we'll bring it!
We got all my wonderful gift of plants planted yesterday and cleaned up a lot of the garden, how I wish my yard could be as meticulous as Don's. I walked around and tried to find a weed but couldn't!
Thanks again everyone for the most wonderful day once again!
You are all real gems!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Where are you going to put Rodica and I????

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

We can all squeeze in, no?!?!!?!?

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

How about my suggestion for an outdoor hammock?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

In the truck???

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Yes Marie, you and Rodica can ride in the back on a hammock!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Uhmm I do not think so.....

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Hee hee.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)
