Hello Friends:
It’s that time of the year again – time to make plans for our upcoming 2008 Round Up. This will be our 4th year for this RU and we all are looking forward to it again.
Date – June 7, 2008
Time – 10am – 6pm
Drdon and Pam are holding this gathering at their Ranch in Temecula again this year.
Everyone had a great time last year and hopefully this years gathering will be even better.
Don and Pam have decided that they would like to have an Irish theme this year.
Don has built an outdoor bar with five lovely brews on tap. There will be Harp Lager and Guiness stout for all those wishing to have an ice cold Irish half and half.
They will also be doing an entree of some sort that is ethnically appropriate and we will bring all the goodies to go with this theme . He will provide ice buckets with ice for our own beverages that you bring yourselves.
He’s working on a couple of the local wineries to see if we can't get a tasting here for the festivities along with inviting some of the more popular plant vendors in the Garden Watchdog to come and speak to the group. So far Andy's Orchids, a marvelous species orchid grower has penciled us in. He is still working on Annie, of Annie's Annuals next and one of the local tropical plant growers. This should be an exciting event for us all.
As they have in the past 3 yrs., there will be tents, tables, chairs and restroom facilities available. He will also have a nice large table set up for all our plant trades.
Their doggies enjoyed meeting many of you last year and thanked you for not bringing yours. No pets please
A lot of details must be planned for a successful roundup. I have asked Weegy12 to help me with the plant trades and the food thread. If anyone else would like to help with anything, just let me know.
We have 3 months to get ready for this gathering, so start propagating your plants and sign up on the plant and food threads. For the people that will be coming from afar, make your plane reservations now!!! lol We hope that many of our longdistance members will be attending again this year and hopefully some new faces will appear.
Don will be pretty busy at his ranch from now until the RU, but will be back occasionally to give us any information he would like to add. As the time gets closer, he will give us directions to the ranch.
Seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and sharing stories about our gardens makes the roundup one of my favorite events of the year. I look forward to seeing you all again in June.
I am posting a link to the last thread of our RU from last year, so our new attendees can see some of the pictures of last years RU. Scroll down to see pics. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/724307/

Hey everyone, you've been waiting for this event to start from the other thread and now that it's officially posted, looks like no one is going to come. lol
Come on and join the party everyone.

Sue and I will be there if the creek don't rise.
John and I will be there, too.
The jury is still out on me; we will be in OC but it is DGD birthday party that day; will have to see what DH says.
Well...You KNOW I'll be there...as George stated.......but I'll add...If the Lord's willin....Jo
Contrary to popular belief, I have not fallen off of the face of the earth and am now catching up on the last7 or 8 months. I have changed jobs, Morgan is a senior this year, and Fiona is as time consuming as always. Both of them discovered drama this year so time has shrunk even more. Now we have ballroom dancing, flute concerts, AND plays. Not complaining-just tired LOL!
Fiona and I will be there with bells on. (Any requests for entertainment Jo? She l loved the little goat song last year.)
Here are the king and queen of the sophomore class in band at Copley Symphony Hall with after performing in Feb. (This is a seriously tall boy as Fiona stands almost 6"4 in heels.)
Fiona is beautiful...as usual...and she can pick what she would like to play!!
Janice...I was thining of you yesterday...I started to call you...good intentions. LOL Jo
Ooooh, I remember her playing some Irish tunes last year! Those would be very welcome to these ears again, and suit the theme, too. Good to hear from you, Janice.
Oh my gosh, she's still alive. Good to see you Janice. I sent you an email several months ago and never heard back. We were all worried about you.
Hi Fiona, your looking as pretty as ever.
Loida and I will be there. We really enjoy the opportunity to go to DrDon and Pam's ranch. I will have to start some cuttings. Is there such a thing as Irish pansit...LOL? Seriously, any suggestions on what to bring (either plants or food) will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck and Loida
I think everyone is bringing a sidedish with some kind of Irish theme. I'm bringing a green potato salad! Any plants that you need to thin would probably be appreciated by someone.
Is this the food post? How about that nice green Pistachio Pineapple Delight from Kraft in the 70's - somehow aka Watergate Salad? Something we can bring the ingredients with us or buy over there and put together at our friend's.
Ann makes a Pistachio baked bar type thing also from the 70's that is wonderful, but not sure how well it would travel and keep for a few days. Harold
Here's the food thread Harold...http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/818631/
The Watergate Salad sounds great.

Those Pistachio Bars sound wonderful; can they be baked and then frozen?
Oops - only the crust (flour, butter & nuts) is baked. The filling is cream cheese, cool whip, powdered sugar, mixed with 2 boxes of pudding made with milk, then topped with the rest of the cool whip. Would that freeze? We drive over to Oceanside a few days before.
Probably not a good thing to be sitting outside on a hot day, anyway.
How about in an ice chest Harold? Just keep it out of the melting ice. (which is water, duh Louise!) Sounds yummy!
don't know about freezing pudding; do a trial run?
My DD Marie and I plan to be there.
Loyd
Janice, I just saw your message of March 8. It is really great to hear from you. I hope everything is going okay at your new job. I was getting a little concerned about you. I hope that we will see you on Apr 26!!!
Fiona is as beautiful as ever. I know what you mean about being busy. I have been taking a class that takes a lot of my time but since I am taking it just for fun I don't really mind.
Take care,
Chuck and Loida
I just found out that the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival is this same weekend. Ambrosia and Kenny Loggins are playing this year...I am a big Ambrosia fan. I'm hoping that we can take our RV down to Lake Skinner and attend the RU and go back and see Ambrosia. What a great weekend it's going to be if we can make it all work!
I'll try to be there.
My first round up! Woo hoo!
Greenwytch...we'll be happy to see you and you will have a really, really great time. This is a fun group of people, good food and plants. What more could you ask for?!
I got my ticket! I got my ticket!!
Woo hoo!!!
Hello Greenwytch,
We are so happy to have you join us for this fun and enjoyable occasion.
Well, tomorrow marks just 2 months away for our RU, so I guess it's time for us to get this ball rolling. I will be sending out lots of invitations to many of the new people soon, and hopefully many of our other regulars will start adding their name here so I can put them on our list.
The time will go faster than we all think. lol
Donna
Can I come? I live just down the road in Wildomar.....I've never been to a roundup, so I'm not sure what I'm in for....but I love blacken tans! I think I even have some seeds from Ireland......how many people come?
LisaLu
Hi again LisaLu, you have D-Mail.
Hello Lisa Lu,
You are more than welcome to attend this event and I promise you will enjoy yourself more than you think. We have a great group of people here and we have fun with talking about everything from plants to whatever you want. lol
For the past 3 yrs. we have had between 35-60 people attending this event....that includes spouses or friends.
Here is a link to 'Part 3' of the RU thread from last year. If you scroll down you can see some great pictures of the group. We had members from several states last year and a few from Northern CA also.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/724307/
Jump right in and join our threads. There are 2 other threads regarding the RU....the Plant Trading and Food Thread. They should both be on the first page of the forum.
Again welcome,
Donna
hiya guys,
Here's what's up..........
Pam and I have arranged this year for a couple of the most popular DG plant vendors to come and speak to all of us about plant related topics.
Andy and/or Harry Phillips.......From Andy's Orchids
Andy and/or Harry will be speaking to those interested in Orchid culture. Especially those interested in species Orchids and to those interested in mounted Orchids.
Hopefully.......And I stress this, that Annie from Annie's Annuals will be in attendance to speak on a topic many of us are guilty of......zone-pushing.
The folks from Kartuz greenhouses have penciled in the date for a speaker to come and chat with us on the topic of growing tropicals in all kinds of places.......Including at our ranch.....lol.
We also expect a representative of Pauly Equipment Company to have a few types of useful machines available for attendees to get familiar with that are commonly used by gardeners, like small tractors, and all kinds of other stuff to sit on, operate, and get familiar with.
Yes there will be good Irish beer available for those interested, but we are also working on getting one of the local wineries to set up a tasting table. This should be fun for those not particularly interested in Hops and Barley....lol.
Pam and I look forward to seeing all of you,
best,
don
Beer? Wine? What happened to CHOCOLATES?????
Back me up here, Pam. LOL Jo
Ooooh, tractors! DH will be in 7th heaven.
Must be chocolates too!!
Dr. Don you are awesome! I am so looking forward to meeting everyone!!
