You have interesting ducks on your local pond Resin!

My birds are around but seem to be hiding, maybe getting ready to nest.

In the cherry tree where the Robin usually sings, a Dunnock or Hedge Sparrow singing.

This is my third try to submit this picture. If this modem ISP gets any slower and keeps on with the disconnects, old as I am, it would probably be faster to me to trot from house to house and personally show you my pictures!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Anyhow, this is from last Saturday. Housework got in the way of my fun!!

Woodies, two eating, one waiting.

The same woodies, except the one waiting decided it wanted to eat, NOW!! To the right, two at same suet feeder.

Boy, I wouldn't want that Pelican coming towards me!! lol

GG, I have noticed our Downy's have gotten a little fiesty lately, too! I had trouble yesterday getting a pic to post. It took like 3-4 tries.

I am waiting for it to warm up a little more here before I venture out. I got this female Cardinal on my afternoon spin around my loop.

FYI, I've been having trouble with DG posts for about a week. Maybe something on their end then…

I've posted this before, but it is still fun…

Love the 1st shot of hand feeding the Pelicans.
thanks for starting the new thread Resin, neat looking Tufted Duck.
Nice pic everyone. My yard is full of Starlings today, I scare them away, but they don't stay away very long.

Anyone having trouble loading pics, look at your pic size, if you can crop some off or use a resizer it will be a lot easier. Anything much over 100kb can be difficult to load, I checked some here and they are 5-6,000 and more in bytes. To see that right click on a pic once, then left click once on 'properties', although the pics are compressed to 100 x 100 pixels the # of bytes wil be large if your kb pic size is large.

It depends on your camera's programme which you use how it ends up and whether you crop too, but there is a resizer (which I have lost) that can be downloaded if I can find it again! With my Programme I can select the picture quality when I transfer them to My Pictures, I use the middle setting so they end up not too big but if I go to maximum they are very large and difficult to upload.

Also, regularly do a Disc scan, occasionally a Defragment, and go to your 'settings' to clear out the History and occasionally the cookies too but that means signing in again, but if your computer is running slow and has been used a for long time it should be done.

Here is a link for the picture resizer for XP for anybody that is interested
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
this is the one I use (when I use it).
I googled Vista picture resizer & there were some results but I can't recommend only because I never used them

Bella Vista, AR(Zone 6b)

nanny, your puffy female cardinal makes mine look scrawny....lol

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

My pix are generally always 800 pixels at their widest. I actually have photoshop so I knock them down for the web using that program. This makes them under 1000K file size. Still, the upload procedure has been stalling out on me lately.

So as not to hijack the daily thread, here's a female cardinal. Until I started taking pictures of them up close, I never realized how much color they had.

Here's another one of my scrawny female Cardinals...with her yellow friend. I agree their colors are very striking in the sun, and their bright bill really stands out...
Love all your pictures

This is not a very good picture, but the Starlings somehow, open the suet cage and got inside.

Thumbnail by burn_2007

Mrs_Ed, 1000kb is far too big, about 10 times too big. They are not only difficult to upload but also very difficult to enlarge on dial up. Your pic of the female carcinal is 15,510 bytes, your second one better at 4,458 bytes. Not picking on you nor hijacking but informing all those who are not aware, lol, I used to have big files too with my old camera and programme even with cropping. If mine go much over 150kb they are slow to upload. I haven't been able to open many pics lately so give up.

Thanks angele for the link, saves me looking for it, I will download it again! Sometimes I save pics on maximum quality if they are moon pics and I still end up with over 300kb!

Those starlings!! I had two in my downspouts once. So have to get covers for them!!

Hebron, KY

Burn,

To keep my suet feeders shut and locked, I use one of those colored plastic coated 'twisties' that I get with my prepackaged loaves of bread at the grocery store. I just slide one end thru the suet cage and twist it with the other end a few times and that does the trick.

Great pics everyone!

I'm trying the re sizer.

Mrs_Ed; did you have to get the bird out or did it come out by himself out of the spout?

Thanks for the tip Marilyn, I'll have to do that now. It still blows my mind as to how they managed it. That was a chain with a hook. I heard of squirrel and raccoon outsmarting stuff like that but not Starling!!!

I does make a big difference. Picture I just put up was 71.4kb, it went down to 2.6kb. Quit a jump. Thanks Wallaby.

It's much better when you know how isn't it burn!

For those who are wondering how to resize, right click once on the thumbnail in My Pictures. There will be a link 'Resize Picture' if you have downloaded it, then all you do is select what screeen size to display it on and click OK. That will make a copy at the end of your thumbnails.

Hi folks, sorry about posting in the id thread a bit ago. I got lost! Lovely photos & comments here too.
Funny about the Starling Burn. Must be a smart bird!
This is the first season I've seen the Verdin taking a drink from the Hummingbird feeder. Maybe because there aren't any hummers to chase him off yet.
(resized from 1.2+ mg to 54k no loss of quality to worry about)

I had to get them out. I heard something down at the bottom bend. So I went over, unscrewed it and out flew TWO! It cracked me up. I thought it was going to be a squirrel.

Size or no size, Mrs. Ed, you cardinal picture is very lovely.

ha. thanks.

Well, I am used to making things 800 x 600. Yah that's a bit overkill, but it is the size of a whole screen in general, so that's my default for pictures of this nature. Now when I'm doing web work, it really depends. Generally 200 pixels wide is fine unless someone wants a detailed larger version.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

It's not actually the pixel size which makes for larger kb size, a lot of my pics are bigger than that. It's down to the size your picture starts due to the camera you have, then the programme that is used to edit or transfer them. My pics start at around 5mb, it's the transfer programme which reduces them. It also depends what is in the picture, if there's a lot of black that usually has less kb/mb.

My screen size is 17" flat screen, on a full screen I can go to nearly 800 tall and over 900 wide. The pics I do on Nikons Picture Project which came with the camera, then I have to transfer them to My Pictures. This allows you to set the picture quality to a sliding scale from low to high, I use it midway for medium quality and most come out under 200kb. Pictures don't need to be a high quality on computers, only for printing.

I am guity too, so I will try to remember to resize before I post from now on!

Hi Everyone...So many great and entertaining pics today!! Thanks to all of you and Resin thanks for starting the new thread.

Many thanks also for the info on resizing the pics...I downloaded it and look forward to using it. Believe it or not if I wanted to make a pic smaller I would email to myself...took a lot of time but I am not too bright!! This way=much better!! LOL!

I saw several Robins and Bluebirds today and the Cardinals and other birds are singing their heads off....such a treat to hear and see them. Purple Martin's have been spotted about 60 miles south of us...can't wait to see them. My little Bewick's Wren continues to visit the feeding cage several times a day for the meal worms, as well as the Carolina Wren.

Took this pics yesterday of a cute little White Breasted Nuthatch...they are such playful birds and this little one actually seemed to be playing with me. We have had so little sun for the past few weeks I was lucky I had my camera when the sun peeked out for a few moments.

Hey Rose, workarounds are great! You are smart to think that way. Oh my, that nuthatch is so cute. Fatty.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Nanny...I'm seeing a lot of the BB now...but not in my yard...DH thinks there might be too much action with all the Goldfinches, Darn Starlings and Cowbirds! He has been putting up nest boxes for them and we are keeping our fingers crossed!

Klamath River, CA

Has anyone heard how pelle is doing?

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thank you Mrs Ed...I am so computer challenged and sometimes a bit timid about asking for help! This is the first time I have gotten a pic of a puffy Nuthatch!

Mount Pleasant Mills, PA(Zone 5a)

Nanny, that Bluebird looks a big grumpy!

Here is another woodpecker picture. Note the breast feathers. Are they just puffed out, or...........
