Underwater arrangements

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Ditto! I was going to say the same thing about the ribbon.

Are you doing them for individual rooms or as a main display? If a main display, you may consider buying several different shaped, large clear vases (cheaply of course, dollar tree, big lots). Using store bought flowers, both silk and fresh, change it up weekly, like Terri said. With different vases, each arrangement will look unique.

Just my 2 cents.

Traci

Oh, if you have a Dollar Tree, they have tons of stones and marbles for $1.00. I bought $6.00 worth that I would have paid $18 to $24 somewhere else.

You are only as old as you feel! Definitely a "sweet girl'.

Well, Elle, you did quite good! : ) Looks so much better than the one I tried.

I only had a coupel of Gerbera daisy flowers and stuffed them in the fish bowl. Big fowers in a little bowl don't look so hot.

Sorry we threw Traci "off her game". Glad you are giving another chance cause I say,

Miss Traci, I know you are trying very hard.........I am just looking for ways to catch Miss Thang aka Miss Robbi, she is certain that she will be Princess next month, and I am trying to give her a run for her money!! wouldn't it be funny for Princess Kathy to hand over her throne to Miss Robbi only to take it back and scream APRIL FOOLS!!!!!!! just kidding, NOT :oP

may Princess Kathy smile today

Hi Sally, Thank you! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your underwater arrangements.

Now how did you manage to get them layered like that Terri, you got another secret? Both are lovely and great colors.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi candee, Thank you, no secrets! I just layered the plant material in the vase then slowly filled it with water. Some movement occured but nothing to worry about!

South, TX

Great job. I can't find my tiny frogs! I love to use them for underwater flowers. Guess I need to get more.

Now where could have have gotten to? Where do little frogs go when they aren't being used?
You did a fine job of not disrupting the layers Terri, I will have to try one of these soon. I love your little jar Sally, so pretty in pink.

These arrangements are sooo beautiful!

I tried my hand at the simplest, most basic type and got lots of compliments. In fact, I'll be making some for my nephew's rehearsal dinner. (see my thank you post).

I'm thinking of trying to sell some at the farmers market, but first, I'm going to get my feet wet by taking a few to my sister's garage sale.

I have a logistical question. How would you suggest making the container "spill proof" (at least as much as possible). Not only to get them to the garage sale, but for the customers who will be taking them home.

I thought of wrapping them in saran wrap (as mine do not have any flowers sticking out of the vase) but wondered if lack of air could be bad.

I saw the pic of the one with the lid and loved it. Maybe lack of air is not a problem. If I used containers with lids, maybe I could tape the lid on.

Ideas?

TIA,
Sherry

South, TX

Hard to make them spill proof. You can a lid on them but you have to fill them high to be pretty. You can take water out before the buyers take them home maybe, then they can fill them up again. You can have a turkey baster for that. Neatly take a bit of water out. I use a baster when I water little plants sometimes.

Dalton, GA(Zone 7a)

I'll get a turkey baster tomorrow! Great idea!

What abt the saran wrap idea. I could just have a roll on hand and wrap it for the customer. Would it be too "airtight"?

South, TX

No, not too airtight. The flowers are under water anyway. I think it would work. You can have a practice one to see how it all works for you.

london England, United Kingdom

Hi you two!

What is Saran wrap? we probably have another name for it over here.
Have you made an arrangement you can wrap and show us please?!!

I like the turkey baster idea! Have you found your frogs yet? lol!

South, TX

NO, ha. I can't find my little frogs. Somewhere SAFE I guess. Saran Wrap is clear plastic wrap, it sticks to glass really well.

Dalton, GA(Zone 7a)

Saran Wrap is a brand name for plastic cling wrap - it's not used as much any more now that we have zip lock bags and containers that go from stove to table to fridge. But when I was little I remember covering all the leftovers, with aluminum foil or plastic wrap to go in the fridge. It's still available everywhere tho.

I am going to try it. I'm making the arrangements tonight. FOr transport to the sale I'm just going to put a piece over the vase opening bcs they'll be in towel lined boxes with newspaper in between so no big deal if there is a small spill.

For the customer I will probably do the same unless they have no shocks on their car!! I am also taking small boxes to put the vase in for the customer to take.

london England, United Kingdom

Oh we call that cling film. Maybe some nice fabric and ribbon over the top of it then?

Thanks for the translation!

london England, United Kingdom

Snap, we posted at the same time........ Good Luck with the sales!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Sally, great thread! The arrangements in here are amazing.

South, TX

Yes, wonderful pictures! I just had surgery, will be a while before I can play with flowers, but KEEP POSTING for my entertainment! GORGEOUS tulips and flowers! I have so many lovely flowers from friends and family. I wish I could take them apart and make other arrangements under water, ha. Maybe in a few days I will feel like it. I need to find my frogs or send hubby to Micheal's for more froggies!

Dalton, GA(Zone 7a)

Well, I did not sell any arrangements. In fact, I barely sold anything at all. We had very little traffic at the garage sale - I made only $20! What a fiasco!

I gave one to a neighbor who commented on how pretty and unique they were. I figure she might show it to some people.

Here's a pic of my favorite one of the group..
