Today's Weather in Your Garden - 12

North Augusta, ON

Thanks Victor...at least if I slip off it's a softer landing with all that snow.

:)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Mine leaked in 2 spots last ice storm.(a few days ago) DH has already been calling estimates to have the entire roof re-done.

North Augusta, ON

Don't you hate that?

There's a lot of snow up there, I think the ice has just backed up under/between the tin and the rubber somewhere.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Roof leaks are a pain. My dad was a roofer and in storms the phone never stopped ringing. Good luck to anyone with a problem.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Finding the exact spot is not easy.

North Augusta, ON

No it ain't. Took me 2 summers to fix Moms. And 2 cans of tar...I got so desperate I just tarred everything I even suspected was maybe a hole. turned out it was sneaking in the side of a wall where an old antennae wire had been snipped off.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Water travels. I think I heard it 1,000 times, at least.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Yes, water does travel. Quite a few years ago we had ice build up on our roof - 18 inches worth - and the water came down between the inside and outside walls, under the livingroom rug and leaked in the basement ceiling. A contractor came and chopped the ice on the roof with a pick axe (think that's what it is called) until he got down to only several inches of ice. Eleanor

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

That is exactly what happened here Eleanor!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Ice and ruts here, too. Same problem with ice build up on the roof. And the latest: my sunroof has been leaking and then I sit on a sopping wet seat and walk around with wet pants all AM. I asked my car guy what's the deal and he said the drainage channel is frozen and that I wouldn't electrocute myself by turning the heat on in the seat to evaporate it. The last time this happened I had frost on the INSIDE of the windows from the condensation!! Isn't winter grand?? No wonder we dread it!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I dread sunroofs. ☺

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore...at least that's the way I felt when I woke up to howling wind.

Light Rain
Temp: 52°F
Humidity: 97%
Wind Speed: S 20 MPH G 31
Barometer: 29.62 in.
Dewpoint: 51°F

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Raining here too, the winds have died down since last night. It's 41° and my furnace is not running non-stop like it did Sat.

I just heard a nasty little fact about our Al's State of Wisconsin.....
They have had snow 52 out of the last 80 days and are now up to 80" of snow fall. Well Al all I can say is im sorry....but your catching up to Maine quickly!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

It's raining hard here this morning.
The kids have a two-hour school delay. I can only think that the delay is because the road crews are having a hard time getting all the water to drain off the roads due to the height of the snowbanks.

It's warmer, though ... and I have heard rumors of some people in Ohio actually seeing green shoots in their gardens!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Windy, and cloudy, but it is going to be in the 50's, it is already 48 degrees. We are suppose to have rain most of the day. Yesterday was beautiful. We took our house guest for a long walk on the beach with the dogs. Patti

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Raining, windy with very strong gusts. Fifty degrees already. Crazy weather.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Your kids aren't off for the week? Our schools consider this week a winter recess.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

The wind woke me up, too, Anita. 51 degrees, rain, not pretty.

Thomaston, CT

It is 52 here--most of the snow is gone--I opened up all the upstairs windows & sucked in the warm, damp, lovely spring-smelling air! Notice I am not mentioning the water in the cellar! Had a flock of 10 or so redwings in the yard yesterday--they say Spring---robins have been around all winter, so the blackbirds & TV's tell me winter is gasping its last--how's that for optimism?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Pessimists may never be disappointed but optimists lead the best lives.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Very very strong gusts and occasional creaking sounds from the woods. Up to 55 degrees and still raining. Pumps are working thank goodness.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

58 and intermittent rain here.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Lousy winter. We got about 10" of snow with some freezing rain to start.

My plow looked kind of mean when I got there.

Looks intimidating - like fangs.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Fangs and blood. Do you call it Dracula?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I was calling it a lot of things today as I got stuck pretty good.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Temp 56.3°, Wchill 47.8° Wind SW 12.5 mph

Windy all night long with moderate rain. This winter I've had maybe 4" of snow all winter, that's a generous estimate, lasting no longer than 12hrs on the ground, but the wind has been fierce, more violent and frequent than any I can remember. ☺

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

strangely warm day here

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Wow! You do have a warm day in NJ!

I agree with WC regarding the wind this winter. We couldn't possibly have received even 2" of snow over the winter ... so far.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Less than 10 inches so far - maybe around 7 or 8. Not as much wind as you guys.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Count your blessings Arlene - with the rain that has fallen, could you imagine how much snow we would have??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

True, Anita. Last Wednesday we got about 5 inches of rain. Another inch last night. Happy about that!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Well the rain has stopped, the really big gusts of wind have stopped, still quite breezy, the sun even managed to shine through a hole in the clouds for about 15 minutes, but it is overcast again with a really strange 60 degrees. So from sideways rain and wind knocking down trees and branches to a fairly nice spring-like day. Nuts. :)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

It's almost stopped raining, but very, very foggy. Standing in the same spot I always do to take the 'tree' picture.
