Stop and visit, talk all you want. Pt 13-kwanjin :)

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

yes, that is it.
Terry, you thought I was mean about my pug yesterday? She just ate my brand new Hyacinth!!!!!!! I just wanna kill her!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL, Tammy. I sure hope that hyacinth doesn't give the little pug a tummy ache!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Well, she deserves it if she does! She ate every stem and bud! I bought this particular one because it was just getting ready to bloom!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

I certainly hope hyacinths aren't poisonous to dogs!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I guess I should look that up, huh.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Yeah, it wouldn't hurt.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Well, here is what PF says:

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/164771/

(Zone 7a)

It says all parts of the plant are poisonous...to humans. I'm going to check for dogs.

(Zone 7a)

I found this...

http://www.ansci.cornell.edu/plants/comlist.html

It doesn't have Hyacinth on the list but I would watch for vomiting and diarrhea.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

All I read was all parts of plants are poisonous if ingested, it didn't state human or otherwise?

(Zone 7a)

If you go to the site I found it doesn't list hyacinth but it also says that just because a plant is not on the list doesn't mean it isn't toxic to a specific species.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Sorry, just really irritated, over more than just that. :(

(Zone 7a)

Dogs, puppies especially, can be...challenging, I think is the word.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Oh but this was the Mamma dog. She knew better.

(Zone 7a)

Oh, she is so in trouble, then! LOL My Monty keeps trying to eat hair off the floor. (His own. Go figure.)He knows better, too.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I had just sit in on the floor long enough to eat and rest a bit, then she got it before I did! I learned my lesson, but did she!?! Doubt it! This is the poop eating dog!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Here is one I found in a Google search:

http://www.cybercanine.com/toxicplants.htm

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

That'll teach you to talk trash about your dog! You do realize you could of bought a whole bag and planted them last year for probably what you paid for the 1 plant, correct? I love the smell of hyacinths. But they aren't native, so I enjoy the smell elsewhere or not at all.

Mau, sorry about Pau's back. I heard on WGN that they're doing some study for people with back pain in the Chicago area. Anything like that down there? This is for people who suffer from chronic back pain.

I need to go find my bed. Need to take my tire in to get it fixed tomorrow. And hopefully Trisha will have time to cut my hair.

Night all...

(Zone 7a)

"Usually not fatal"? What does that mean?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Nope, not when she deserves it! And there were 3 very nice bulbs in the pot, ready to bloom, for just a bit more than the teeny tiny ones I bought and planted this fall.

(Zone 7a)

Good night, Terry. Have...(ahem) fun with the tire tomorrow.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

dunno

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Morning all!! Just checking in before My office phone starts ringing!!

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

"usually not fatal" probably means that most times the poison in the hyacinths won't kill you but then there is that one rare time when it does--that is a comforting thought! I suppose it depends on how much of the poison was consumed in relation to the body weight of the one doing the consuming. In your dog's case, that wouldn't take much. Is she okay this morning?

I don't know if there is a study on people with chronic back pain down here, Terry, but we go for Pau's appt. with the neurologist at the med center next Friday so I am going to ask about that.
Hope you get your tire "fixed" okay today. Pau and I had a flat in the middle of nowhere (literally) in Kansas 4 years ago. We had taken a state highway instead of the interstate because Pau had spotted an air museum on the map. If there is an air museum within 500 miles, Pau will go out of his way to see it. It was 104º with miles of burned-up wheat fields and corn fields(due to heat and drought) everywhere and nothing and nobody anywhere. A couple of cars passed us but did they stop to ask if we needed help? Noooooo! We could have died out there and nobody would have known it! :o(( That was the worse case scenario, of course. LOL It didn't happen. We didn't die and Pau put on the "doughnut" (which was low on air) and we made it to the next little town and we were thinking , "We will never find a tire here!" Sure enough, the very first business on the highway was a garage that had the kind of tires we had on our car. Hooray! When we limped into his station, the guy walked out wiping his hands on a towel, looked at our doughnut tire and said, "Looks like you need a new tire." Ha! He put on a new tire, gave us the manufacturer's pro-rated whatever-it-was on the old one and off we went. Plus he charged us less for the new tire than we had paid for the same brand back in Conway! Small town America does still exist! LOL

I forgot to say "GOOD MORNING EVERYONE"! just in case you didn't hear me. LOL

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

What time do you have to be at work, Marie?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I got here at 6:30 this morning :o) I have a 40-60 minute drive in depending on traffic.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

You certainly are an early bird! When I was working and we lived on a farm, I had a 45 mile drive one way. Fortunately, I didn't have to be at work till 8:30 a.m. and got off at 4:30 p.m. I didn't mind the drive because most of it was not through heavy traffic and it gave me time to "unwind" before I got home in the evening. In the mornings, I would listen to certain radio programs I liked or listen to tapes (before the days of cd's--ha!) I quit working for money in 1993 and went to work for Pau--he had his own construction business and I kept the books, did the payroll, etc., etc., from home--never got paid a dime! LOL

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I hate my drive!! The traffic is so bad. We are trying to become like Southern California's traffic Yuck!!! I live outside of the city although another year or two and the city will be on top of us. As of right now there is a freeway scheduled to run right through my house.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Quoting:
As of right now there is a freeway scheduled to run right through my house.

I hope they are going to pay you LOTS of money when it comes time for you to move!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Well at least make it so I can have an equivalent house. :o)

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

That's for sure!

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Morning all..... had a horrid evening last night, and a bad morning so far, I know we aren't supposed to discuss current events, not sure if that means on a large scale or at all, so lets just say my mom's boyfriend made the news last night, and is wanted for non-aggravated robbery, and it was just HORRIBLE here last night. Nothing makes your evening like a phone call from you significant other saying "Don't panic, but get your gun and load it, and lock the doors". WHAT? DON'T PANIC? Yea, right. Mike called the local cops and they told him to close the station and come home early, and had a cop at the station all night, because his station was one that was scheduled to be hit in a local string of robberies (we know mom's BF participated in one of them but not sure about how many total).

So even though he was home, I was a wreck, and ended up being awake until 4 AM. Woke up when he left for work (it was still dark out) told him to be careful, and went back to sleep. Kids had a 2 hour delay this morning so they didn't have to be at the bus until 10:15. The phone rings at 7:45, and its one of the guys that run the gas co that Mike works for, asking me where he is. WHAT??? He should be at work, he should have been there before 7.... so now I'm panicked. Guy tells me he or Mike will call when they figure out where he is. No call, no call no call....... so I start trying to call the station, and can't get through. Now I'm freaking out. Finally at 9:20, I get through, and Mike gets on the phone, and has been there since about 8, but he didn't know they had called me, so he had no idea I was going crazy here at home :((( Needless to say, I cracked finally and was just sobbing on the phone, so he feels terrible, but it wasn't his fault, the van broke down on his way to work.... OMG what a messed up 14+ hours.

Mom's BF is still on the loose, they issued a warrant for him last night, she doesn't know where he is, she is a wreck, I sort of feel bad for her but I'm so mad at her too, because I knew something like this was gonna happen..... and I'm so very angry that twice now, in my kids short lives, they have seen me lock down the house, and have a loaded gun in my hands, because of someone that mom is involved with that could be dangerous to me or the kids :(

What a mess. :(( I'm just gonna veg today I think, I'm too stressed to do anything else. If anyone is interested, I'll dmail you the link to the news story and video, but I don't want to post it here and get in trouble with admin.

I really, really hate drama :(((((

Hugs,
Janis

Janis, so sorry you and Mike and the kids had to go through that terrible experience. I can't even imagine what it must be like for you, having to worry about that sort of thing. Go online and sign up for the HGTV dream home in Florida and dream about winning it. Just looking at the pictures will help you to "veg" out, I think.

Mau

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Janis I to am sorry tohear what you and Mike and the kids have had to go through. I will be praying for all of your safety until he is caught. Uhmm if you win the house can you ask that they giv eme one too :o)

(Zone 7a)

Good morning. Wow, the things that happen while others are sleeping. I can't imagine the horror your kids and you were going through, Janis.

I'm not clear on the current event thing, either. What's allowed and what isn't?

Well, it's 13º and MORE snow expected soon. After that, there is a warm spell predicted. Then, we should get rain in the mountains, which means run-off water in the canyons and possible flooding. Great.

Yeah, an extra house in Fla. would be awesome! LOL

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Celia, I'm not sure, but don't want to cross a line that isn't allowed.. so...

Flooding would suck, hope that doesn't happen.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes... I think I'm gonna go lay down and try to get some sleep, Mike's son is here with me today so I'm not in the house by myself. They still haven't caught him. I don't think he'll show up here, but Mike doesn't want the kids and I left alone until he is behind bars (where he belongs) again

Hugs,
Janis

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)
