Water Cooler - 5

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thank you Carrie.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I've been without a computer too often - I know the feeling.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Congratulations Victor!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Dave.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Congratulations on the new arrival. Glad it's a computer!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Just stopping in to say hi!! I've been really busy with Colin lately! I've been trying to keep up with everyone's posts but it has been diifficult! Hope everyone is doing well and congratulations Victor!! Eleanor

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

How old is Colin? (forgetful as all get out) Now that it's almost spring, he should be more fun, or it should be more fun for him.

Pirl, how do you know Victor isn't also expecting something else? He is a man (Do we even know that?) - a man of mystery; he could be expecting triplets and we wouldn't know about it.

xx, Carrie

They ave basements in Sing-Sing?

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Carrie - Colin will be 22 months next week. Yes, I can't wait for spring and to get him outside everyday. He's a handful though just trying to keep up with him!! He's at a fun age as he is curious about everything but not great at minding - I have lots of work in that area since he spends the majority of his time with me!! Eleanor

Speaking of computers . . . mine got a MalWare virus yesterday. I'm so mad that Norton couldn't keep it out!I had to set up a new account on my dd's computer so I could email Symantec and complain. I'm glad I remembered my Dave's password so I could log in here!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - that's surprising. I use Zonealarm in addition to the anti-virus software. Any idea how you got it?

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

No idea at all - I'm really upset. Thank goodness we have another computer in the house.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Although, during the Super Bowl, the 15-yr.-old was showing the 10-yr.old how to do something on my computer, which she has no problem with on her own computer.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I switched from Nortons to Trend Micro in November. It is about $30 cheaper and so far works just fine. I figured if they were #3 - they had to try harder and Norton is getting too big for its britches - charging for everything! humph! All the Trend Micro tech help is free.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - Ledger was on six different powerful meds. Not considered suicide but taking that combo is gonna increase your chances of dying by quite a bit.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

has anyone else seen There Will Be Blood?
if so, what did you think?
i was mad. $9 AND 2.5 hours of my life spent on THAT?!?
i find DDL's intense acting facinating to read about, but in this (as in Gangs of New York, which i know everyone loved but me), i found him almost unbearable to watch. He'll probably win the Oscar, because he is doing so much acting-with-a-capital-A. And really, i want to like SOMEone in a story.
Best part was Paul Dano, who was the silent brother in Little Miss Sunshine. Fun to see him do something more ambitious.

Anyway i HATED this movie and just needed to vent.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Did you like "My left Foot"? I think he is a great actor but haven't seen "Blood"

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think if you are known by either one or three names, you have to be good.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

no - you just have to be known by 3 names when the union already has another member with the same name... that is why there are SO many young actors in b'way shows with 3 names...
BTW, Daniel Day Lewis's father was the writer Cecil Day Lewis, who i believe was the poet laureate of England.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not Jerry Lewis?

They added a new forum to the site. I had to put my 2 cents in. I suggest everyone take a look

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I did put my 2 cents on the paying aspect, I just don't like it when it gets nasty like on the morning glory forum.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The morning glory forum got nasty?!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Tell us about it!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Any forum can get nasty I guess. I stopped hanging at the Trees and Shrubs and Sustainable Alternatives forums last year for that reason.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Long ago I quit the Tree and Shrub Forum. Too many attacks.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Not as nasty as some of the forums I have seen but still don't like it. This one also involves a DG member who bought off ebay and decided to vent. Well the ebay seller is a DG member! Not Good!!!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

That was an interesting read.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I just bought some really different MG so I went to look and maybe ask a question or two and came across that. I left the MG forum w/out asking any question or gettin any answers!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

After I read it I hesitated to say more and yet it's on my mind. The buyer didn't want the disappointment in not receiving what she paid for and the seller didn't want the bad feedback. I have gone to the seller's feedback page and there's nothing but two nice items so it must have been the feedback on eBay the buyer is talking about. It's rough.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

yes, it is the feedback on ebay they were talking about.

The seller has a problem as hes had several withdrawn feedbacks. I would not buy from that seller period.

I'm on my notebook now. Wow - so much stuff to learn - and get rid of! They put so much junk on. Have to get used to Vista too.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I want to get a notebook/laptop to use in the kitchen/living room. I want to set it up on a wireless network so that my tower will be the main pc. I'd use the other for pulling up recipes/surfing while in the recliner and downloading/watching movies on the big screen TV.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Are you finding that you use cookbooks much less than before, Anita? It's true for me.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wireless is cool - especially if the battery is a good one.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Victor, let us know your opinion of Vista, once you get used to it. I'm curious about it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I will.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, I will be happy to hear how you like Vista. I got a new Thinkpad for Xmas, but DH knew I would throw a hissy fit if I had to learn anything new so he had xp installed. He was able to get the computer through some group buying program from his alumni association, which is the first time he ever saved a buck from them. I will let him suffer through the new learning process when he is ready to update his and then I will pick his brain when I do mine. One crazy person in the house at a time. Patti

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Wait, Patti, did he have XP installed with Vista? We bought my DD#2 an HP with Vista on it for her bday last year (we're still paying. . .) and we didn't know! It's not compatible with the rest of the computers in the house! (It might be just that we haven't installed MSWord on it... but it might be that we're unABLE to install MSWord.) Anyway I'm very anxious to hear about this because this house is an xp house!

x, Carrie
