Hey, Terry, talking about making change: Pau and I went to run some errands earlier and we had to stop by one of the local establishments to pay a bill. I sent him inside with cash. His change was supposed to be $5.55. He was in there for the longest time and when he came out he was chuckling and he said, "It took three of them to figure out how much change I was due. They finally used the calculator and figured it out!" They said they weren't used to people paying them in cash. They had to scrounge up the change from the three of them. Of course, Pau could have made it easy on them and told them how much change to give him but it was too much fun watching them figure it out for themselves. I didn't ask him, but I don't think these were teens, either, because this was not a fast food place. It was an exterminator and we were paying our yearly inspection fee for termites!
Yep, "seed", just stay right here--we'll keep you laughing for sure!!
Stop and visit, talk all you want. Pt 12
Oh, poor Tammy! Let me tell you about two of Terry's pet peeves:
1. Poor grammar, as well as using abbreviations
2. People on DG--whoops, sorry, make that Dave's Garden! People on Dave's Garden who talk about invasive plants when the plants are not really invasive at all or vice versa.
Anybody else have any pet peeves we whould know about? That might be an interesting subject.
Well, spelling I can do, but she is gonna have to live with my grammar! LOL I always failed in that. :(
One of my pet peeves is:
If you tell someone you are going to do something, DO IT, or let them know that you can't!
And what plant would that be that isn't really invasive Mau?? Why would anybody knowingly plant a plant that is invasive? That just doesn't make any sense to me. Look around. Half the crp you see out there is invasive. I know I know, the Queen Anne's Lace is just so pretty though! UGH!
Yes Tammy!! How about people telling you they'll do something, come visit, etc etc, then something "better" comes along and they leave you hanging?? Drives me INSANE!!
Well now I am still contemplating the Butter and Eggs, even though they are invasive! Cause they are so pretty! LOL
Oh I hate that, Terry! Or, I will call you at such and such time, that time comes and goes, then you hear that person say, well, she never called me! IRRITATING!
Amen to that, Tammy--that is one of my pet peeves, too. If you can't do something you promised to do then pick up the phone and call the person and let them know why.
Marcy, I sincerely hope that Dave planned someting special for your birthday, weather permitting. Pau asked me what he was getting for his birthday and I said, "The same thing I got for mine: Nothing!" He laughed at that. We have come to the point in our lives where we don't really make a big deal out of our birthdays any more. He said he wouldn't be older until after 10 p.m. tonight and it would be too late to celebrate by then. LOL Funny man!! I asked him if he wanted to go out and eat and he said no. He would rather stay home and have a baked sweet potato, so that is what we did. He has had a craving for baked sweet potatoes lately and I like them, too, so that was fine with me. We had brisket with it and we were both satisfied with his birthday meal. He has received several calls today from friends and relatives wishing him "Happy Birthday" and that means more to him than presents, etc.
Well, I seem to be growing icicles on the end of my nose again so time to make some more decaff and snuggle up in a blanket. Talk to y'all later.
Mau
Mau, Pau sure is an easy man to please! LOL
Terry, I don't know about what plant isn't invasive, etc., etc.--I was just making a point about one of your pet peeves and see there, you proved me right! Just the mention of invasive plants sets you off. I can see you now: there you are in your shining armor, riding in on your white horse with spade in hand ready to dig up the first invasive plant you spot! Now that's a picture!!--Terry to the rescue of the nearest garden! LOL (You may have to come down here and rescue mine this summer although I sincerely hope I haven't unwittingly planted anything invasive.)
Just for the record, I don't like them either, except for Queen Anne's Lace--only growing beside the road, of course, and not in my flower bed. You might be interested in this book which I read about on another thread: Bringing Home Nature: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens by Douglas W. Tallamy. I think you can read a review of it in the book place here on DG. (Can't think of the name of the book place right now, but y'all know what I am talking about)
BTW, Tammy, I think the Butter and Eggs are pretty, too, but be careful, be very careful!!
Yep, he is, Tammy. We keep cross-posting but this time I am really going to go and make another pot of coffee. Bye for now
Ok, Mau, have your coffee and the icicles off your nose! :)
If I do decide to plant some of the B&E, I will put them in a pot and watch the seed pods!
Want to hear a good one about saying they'll call and they don't? We were living in TN. It was Oct 3, 2003. I know this, because that's my husband's birthday. His sister calls. He's done talking to her and asks if she'd like to talk to me. She says she can't right now, but she'd call the next week. We moved home in Dec. of '04 and I still hadn't gotten that phone call!! Unbelievable.
Yes, that is terrible! Unfortunately, so many people do it! :(
Drive to TN and look at the mountains. They've been taken over by invasive plants species. You should see the Mimosa and the Bradford Pear. Those don't just pop up in the mountains. Trees that people had to plant and the seed was carried by animals and they took. Did Pau happen to spot the kudzu growing in the empty lot next door to us down in AR?
That is bizarre you just mentioned that book. I just got done ordering it! I read about it someplace else though. NOT here at DG.
I just thought of another:
If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all!
Which goes with:
If you don't want my opinion, my honest opinion, then please don't ask it!!
AMEN! Cause if you ask mine, you are sure gonna get it!
Hi there, my name is Judy...Seems like everyone knows me as Seed, used to drive me a bit bonkers but I figure however I am known is cool. Picked Seedtosser because thats how I plant! Toss seeds, whatever comes up I love them...my face is red because I love Queen Annes Lace and it has really taken over some part, for which I am sorry I let them go. ..Another sorry pretty Weed I let go was that darned Burdock...Oh golly talk about learning a lesson the hard way!
...well, had a couple of cups of coffee earlier, but now I got to drink something else.
Mar...so glad you got a kick out of them kids. Too funny.
Lets see, my pet peeve is when there is no greeting when people see you. You know like whatever is on the mind comes out first. Sometimes I will say hello to a person two or three times...Then i'll say, Say hello! Not complaining just addressing the pet peeve thing.
Terry, It is funny how people sound different when you hear them in such manner. I hope that makes sense.
Ok we have company so just wanted to say hello and have a nice evening.
Hi Judy, my name is Tammy. :) Nice to meet you and have an enjoyable time with your company and a better evening! :)
Judy Judy Judy, you planted QAL on purpose? Why or why do people do these things? The problem I have with QAL is it doesn't stay there. Where we used to live up here, across the street were empty lots. It was filling up more and more with QAL. And then the inevitable happened. It popped up in our yard, the neighbors yard, the other neighbors yard...sigh. I think that's what people don't understand about INVASIVE plants. They don't just cause YOU a problem, the wind, animals, water etc, will scatter seed, berries and then you have them coming up down the block where that lady never planted them, nor did she want them. But now she's fighting them too.
I have to say sometimes I'm so excited to see whomever, that I don't greet them really, I spit out what I've been wanting to tell them for a long time! But if it was you, and you kept repeating hello, I don't think you'd have to repeat it more than your initial time. To me, I hate it when people say How are you? But they don't want to hear, so why ask?
O.k. what the heck is a butter and eggs plant?
I don't remember the botanical name, I'll be back! LOL
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/262/
This one? Where it states it's an invasive noxious weed? And you want to plant it? Why? Please explain the logic.
Yes, that is it. Beat me all you want! LOL I had posted about planting it, with most saying NOT to! I had planned to put it in a pot and keep it on the deck, but after what you said about animals and so on, I just donno.
Oh Terry, No I didn't plant it on purpose. I allowed one to grow because I didn't know, thought the the leaves were pretty. Then came the flower and I thought it was pretty as well. and well you know the rest. Same with the Burdock...ahhahah, what can I say, I am a novice.
Hi Tammy, nice to meet you as well. Now, I will have to go look at that link, but can't now....
giggles, um I am sneaking in on the visit here...See I am addicted to Daves!
Shhhh, please keep it a secret. heheh, brb!
Animals, wind, a good rainfall spreading the seeds. Next thing, you've got it in your yard and in your flower beds, and the neighbors all have it too. They don't get it, or don't know and think How pretty! so they leave it and it goes on and on...The most important thing to remember about an invasive plant is that it's not just your yard. That would be an aggressive plant. An invasive plant out competes native plants and spread into natural areas.
If others told you not to, why are you still thinking on it? What's to think on?
Hey Marilyn...and everyone! Yes...Dave took me out to the local steakhouse to eat tonight. I had a small steak, baked sweet potato, and a salad and a roll. Water to drink. It was so good, and I am really full!!
About invasive plants. Keep in mind, not all plants are invasive in all areas of the country! For instance: Butter and Eggs are NOT invasive here. I do realize they are in other places though. I was even surprised to hear that Bradford pears were invasive anywhere! But see....I don't know everything....LOL!!!
Judy...nice to meet you!
Pet peeves...hmmmm.......well...my biggest one is people who lie. Seems to me there is a lot of that today.
Ok...enough said here....lol!
I had a great day, and I appreciate all the well wishes!!!!
Hi Judy, you know it's a biennial, correct? Meaning it spends it's first year putting down roots, the second year flowering and setting seed, so that it goes on and on and on.
Here's a link

Here's one from PlantFiles
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/688/
Um...Yep, You see they are plants of the earth. I figure if they are meant to come up then so be it.
...so, yes plants, winds, and animals...now that I know what to look for I pluck them out.
Plus, at the time I had know idea they were invasive.
Somebody planted over 2000 daylilies all in one color! Now please don't get me wrong but my gosh, (I am talking on my property) so that just blew me away. I mean there are so many different plant types. When I moved her 8 years ago...That is the only plant. I DO enjoy them and even kept a few beds.
heheh, thanks Terry, I sort of figured that out...hahha, pulling them yearly is just a lovely chore.
Are you sure Marcy? This is from Ohio State University:
http://www.marion.ohio-state.edu/prairie/whats.in.bloom/invasive/08.htm
But they aren't meant to come up here! All invasive species were brought here, usually because the early settlers wanted something from home.
Sorry Terry, I stand corrected. I have to say however, that I planted them when we lived on our farm....which is just down the road from where I now live. They were NOT invasive there. In fact, they didn't spread in the least! Everything else on that list, IS an invasive here though.
oh my gosh, I hear that. (far as them not being native to the area)
great site you both pointed out. Tammy I think I have eggs and butter too...and they are kind of pretty...grin and sigh.
Hi ya Marcy, nice to meet you too!
My, my, you guys have been having a real educational discussion about invasives while I was away thawing the icicles on my nose. LOL
No, Terry, I don't think Pau noticed the kudzu on the vacant lot next to your parent's house in Bull Shoals. He probably doesn't even know what it is. Pau lives in his own little world, sometimes. He can be looking right at you and never even know you are there if he has his mind on something else. He gets that far-away look in his eyes and I have to snap my fingers and say "Hello? Are you in there?" Anybody else's husband do that? Sorry--I got off the subject. Back to the kudzu: I have seen it over in Tennessee and it is terrible over there. Why don't they just spray it with Round-up or something? That would be better than letting it take over the way it has. I had never heard of Butter & Eggs until a few weeks ago, much less seen any so I guess we don't have it down here--at least not that I know of. Now we do have LOTS of Queen Anne's Lace growing all along the highways. I don't know anyone who has actually planted any in their gardens, though.
Marcy, steak sounds good--I can't remember the last time I had a steak. Now my mouth is watering for one! LOL You had baked sweet potato, too! It must be something about the birthday people around here!
Judy, I can't imagine a place with 2000 daylilies and all one color. I love daylilies but that IS a bit much!
Well, I probably won't hang around here much longer. I'll be off to bed pretty soon. I'm dreading tomorrow, though. The temp. is supposed to be much colder the next two days. :o((
Good night all.
Mau
Good night Marsue. Bundle up and sleep well.
...well could be overly exagerating on that quatity but seems that way to me.
Anyway...Thanks for keeping me company tonight.
Going to say good night...

Good night all...and thanks again!!!
Marilyn...yeah..I love baked sweet potatoes!!!
Well I've got my work cut out for me I guess. First down to MO to clean up Tammy's, then to AR to clean up Mau's garden, then up to Judy's to clean hers, then over to OH to get Marcy's. Anybody else? Celia? You need help too?
I don't think Round-Up touches kudzu. In TN, at least around the Chattanooga area, in the early spring, they go around and cut as much at ground level as they can. The only problem is the stuff grows a foot a day. So by the time summer rolls around, it's covering everything again. I remember the first spring I saw all this white blooming in the mountains. I'm thinking it's Amelanchier (canadensis probably), but when I inquired to somebody who would know, I was told what I was seeing were Bradford Pears. Later on, in the ditches, it was evident of all the Mimosa. Oh and those Empress trees? Lots of those all over. It's really sad driving down there. I see kudzu in S.IL, in KY and then into TN. I thought I was going to die when I saw it in the lot next door in Bull Shoals. Unfortunately, it's on private property. The owner passed away, but I'm guessing his wife is still alive. I do know that they live up here, in Naperville, and the son is a lawyer. I'm not going on private property with the knowledge that the son is lawyer. These people are bizarre anyway. If anything, the Corp of Engineers will get a call.
Mau, if you love daylilies, you really need to come up here to Hornbaker Gardens. It's one of their specialties. Iris, daylily and hosta are the 3 things they have a lot of. But sorry, they don't do mail-order. Pau lives in his own world? Nah, really? LOL
I agree about the steak. It does sound good. It's been a long time since I've had steak!
I've got 6º on my thermometer. Supposed to go down to -8º and it might get to 9º by 3pm. I don't hold out a lot of hope for that though, seeing they say 3º by noon ☺
Dentist tomorrow morning, early afternoon, so I won't be on till later in the day. And now I'm off to bed.
Tammy, you can come back now, I've put my soapbox away...for now ☺
Hi, everyone. I'm home from work now and BOY!!! Did I get an education! LOL Thanks for the tips on the Queen Anne's Lace and the others.
Somebody make a new thread for us? My COM-puter is giving me fits about making links for some reason.
