Good Morning,
Planted lots of goodies in the veggie garden yesterday.
wwhhhhheeeee
North Texas Garden Party - April 19th
YEA - so what did you plant?
1015Y onions
purple onions
cabbage starts
broccolli starts
butter lettuce starts
mesculaine seed
cilantro seed
can't remember the third seed
have trailing nastursum seed soaking in peroxide and alfalfa tea, this is to go various places along the edge to decorate/cover the sides
wonderful... just wonderful
Christi all that sounds really good, I hope they all do great for you.
Busy girl there LouC I am jealous I have to wait till Tuesday to get the tiller to rent so we can finish up the removal of the bamboo roots and till in the compost then plant.
But we did plant onions, radishes, cabbage and lettuce in the terrace.
And today I am moving the honey suckle vine and trumpet vine to the arch behind the shed and putting the 2 climbing rose bushes my mom got me before they left on a new one by the drive way.
Talk about busy! In less than 7 months you have completely redeveloped your property..starting from almost nothing. Maybe worse because of all you had to dig up and get rid of. Thinking of the poison ivy and the on-going thing with the bamboo. Can't wait to see the difference. Any pictures lately?
Oh Phyllis, don't forget that the bamboo shoots are edible, the lady form the Texas Invasive plants told us that the best way to get rid of bamboo is to cut the shoots and eat them when they come up, so you might want to take advantage of that, they are expensive to buy at the grocery store.
Jo I'm sure there will be bamboo coming up that we missed nothing new is up yet but will look at find a pic of shoots so I know what to save
LOL LouC I was just thinking as I logged back in I need to take some pics.
I just stopped for a break as I think I am battling a head cold or slight bit of the flu ( think that part is over though)
Yes I am taking care but the sunshine helps open up my sinuses...it just feels so good to be outside in the yard instead of working at a job.
Will get the camera and go out and snap some shots to share later today.
We cut down a few smaller winged elms (since we have alot of them anyway) and I am making the arch with them.
so best get back out and keep winding them in place for the rose bushes to grow on *S*
Phyllis, always the fussbudget am I, lots of things that cause allergies in the spring. You are in a whole new world of that sort of thing. Take care of yourself, you are our newest, blest Texian. Can't have you sick.
Christi
LOl well I missed out on the reception at the restaurant saturday ...oh darn and I don't feel that bad about it either.
Anyway I did take some pics today and put an entry in my blog...if you click on my name can you get to my blog?
If so click on the making progress entry I posted pictures there
Here is the one of the arch finished...the rose bushes are planted now where in eh picture they were just sitting there.
Good morning friends! I've reserved a pavillion at the park in Waxahachie, and made arrangements to use the church van which holds 15, and my sister's suburban which holds 8. I'd like to get a bus but we don't have enough folks coming to make it worth it. If the number goes up I can revisit the idea. The local paper is going to do a pre-swap story and post-swap story. Organigro is sending a spokesman to the park to discuss their organic products. Still over 2 months, but alot of work left to do. Bad news is I probably won't have my deck built by then )~: Guess we'll have to sit out on the lawn. Oh man, I can't wait!
Missed you last week, TJ.
LouC
Sounds wonderful TJ - keep all that planning up!
Josephine do you think you could get the Master Naturalist there to show us there thing too?
Well, we shall see what I can do about that.
Thank you T.J. for all the work you are doing, you are a real sweetheart.
Josephine.
Great!! This is going to be HUGE!
sitting in the lawn is fine I know we have a few lawn chairs so we can bring those along
We've been there and it was great. The farm animals are just great!
mmm farm animals....baby lambs to feed with a bottle?...I had one when I was young kept him in the garage and he sucked our thumb.
A duck that follows you around?
How about Wilbur???? or Charlotte do they live there
What about a horse that you can scratch it's neck and it leans over and scratches your back????
LOL..... ok all but Wilbur and Charlotte are true
Mibus2
Where you able to get the citrus trees you wanted? I'll be leaving for the Valley Monday morning so if you didn't, you might call Thompson's and see what they've got and I can pick it up for you.
Oh yes I did well kinda LOL...got a mars orange and Rio grapefruit and a Meyers lemon and he gave me a small bay tree free.
that should do me for now
some day maybe will add an avocado and who knows what else LOL

I can't wait for April to get here!!!!!
Ok, this is what I've got worked out for the 19th. We are planning on borrowing the 15 passenger van from my mom's church, and then renting 2 additional 15 passenger vans for a weekend rate of about $110 each. That's a total of $220 for the 2 vans, and so far, we've got about 40 people coming. I divided 220 by 40 and got 5.50, so I think if everyone could bring $6 per head, we can pay for the vans and the extra, if there is any, will go towards the pavillion rental which is $25. Now, remember that we will be bringing dishes for a pot luck lunch and for everyone who comes to my house afterwards, LouC's husband, Mike, will be cooking brisket served with beans, coleslaw, and tater salad. Drinks will also be srved at my house. Is $6 ok with everyone?
Also, I've been thinking we could honor a member at each North Texas swap with an Outstanding Gardener Award. It might be a garden plaque for that person to place in their garden or a special plant that person really likes. We could nominate people based on things like kindness, generosity, gardening achievements, experience, and contributions to DG. What do y'all think? If y'all think it's a good idea, I'll start a thread to begin the nominations.
Getting closer to swap time!!!! YeeeeeeHaw!
$6 is all for everything? that is fine by me but if it needs to be more say so.
Is there a grill by the pavilion? we could do hot dogs and hamburgers or brats for lunch or just do cold meat type sandwiches or something like a sub one? am just thinking aloud LOL
as for the award thing whatever everyone else wants to do is fine by me.
$6 should be fine, but if anyone wants to give more, I will make sure that whatever we have extra goes to the cost of the OG Award or onto the next swap. I originally planned on paying for the pavillion myself, anyway.
I thought about grilling something at the park, but then someone has to man the grill and they can't enjoy the swap as much. Plus, I love potlucks!!
same here - potlucks are great... will bring something wonderful - just got to figure out what that wonderful thing is!
Your plan sounds great T.J. and the cost is just fine.
Josephine.
okie dokie
Don't forget the brisket for sandwhiches.
LouC, the brisket is for the afterparty at my place.......I thought.
