CLOSED: Second Chance Wishlist Swap #5

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Hi All!

Every morning I read all your chitchat on this thread. Love it! There's (almost) no better way to start the day....
Of course I lost my way long time a go, but who cares!

FLOWERHEAD,
if there's enough to split, I'd like some white salvia too. No problem however if you can't. By the way, I would like the pink one too!

KD2000,
You've done my wishlist almost OK. Only my whishes from LaLa's list are missing:
Coneflowers Magnus & White swan
Rudbeckia maxima

ILLOQUIN,
It seems that some fireweed has been set aside for me. I understand Meredith wants it too. As I may not have to patience to get it to germinate, ít's no problem for me if you tag them for her....

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

More seeds available from Weezingreens:

Saxifragas and sedums,

Usually, but probably not always, Saxifrages need cool summers and need some watering. Sedums can take less water and more heat. I think both of them are used in those mixed pots of cactus that are so stylish now. I also think both of them can be used effectively in the rock garden.

For your pleasure, we have the following paks in stock:

Stonecrop Mix (Sedum) - perennial Z4-9 6" spread 9-12"
Low growing rock garden varieties. Germination slow.

Stonecrop 'Dragon's Blood' Sedum spurium Perennial Z4-9 6" tall spc 9-12" Full sun. Good ground cover. Bright pink blooms on succulent foliage that turns red in the fall.

Stonecrop Sedum aizoon Perennial Z4-9 12-18" space 15" Full sun
Bright yellow bloomson succusent foliage that forms an upright cluster of sturdy stems. Germ slow

Sempervivens tectorum Perennial Z4-11 4-6" space 6-8" Full sun
Rosette forming fleshy plants commonly grown in rock gardens,

Saxifrage Rock Garden Mix (saxifrge x arendesii Perennial Z4-7 12-18" spread 9-12" Sun to part shade. Rose-pink flowers on fleshy stalks rise above large glossy cabbage-like leaves. Germ less than 2 weeks.

Petrorhagia saxifraga (Tunic Flower) Perennial Z4-7 Full sun 8" w/ 9" spread. Small pink flowers on airy foliage, similar to baby's breath. Germinates inless than 2 weeks.

......along those same lines with fleshy leaves, although these are more leathery, is Bergenia cordifolia Perennial Z4-7 12-18" tall x 9" and wider as is gets older and older. Light shade (I have seen it growing in full shade and also full sun.) It can go all summer with no water from what I have seen, but those were older plants and perhaps the leaves shaded the crown very well. Has thick, glossy evergreen leaves that bronze in the fall through winter. Flower arranger's love this plant because the huge leaves cover oasis so well. Bright pink flower heads in spring. Soe 72 degrees, germination less than 2 weeks.

Sedum spectabile 'Autumn Joy' a perennial garden favorite for its late blooms of huge bronzey rose heads that darken as they age. This requires a W-C-W strat: sow one month of room temperature, then putthe jug outside ala wintersowing.

One more: Prunella vulgaris -- a Cottage Garden favorite for it's pinky blue- purple blooms and dependability. it goes with everything and requires nothing. Perennial Z4-9 about 6-8 " tall, space 6-9" (it will grow wider, but space it like that) Wintersow. (I did this one last year and had a boatload of plants that lived and grew and bloomed the first year, even with no watering during our summer drought.)

I'm not sure if you should post here or just send the list to KD2000 if you want any of these. LOL! Better send to KD. :)

Suzy

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Suzy and/or KD,
I would love to try:
Stonecrop 'Dragon's Blood' Sedum spurium Perennial Z4-9 6" tall spc 9-12" Full sun. Good ground cover. Bright pink blooms on succulent foliage that turns red in the fall.

Saxifrage Rock Garden Mix

Petrorhagia saxifraga (Tunic Flower)

Thanks, Rachel

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Hi Suzy,

Prunella vulgaris is edible as well! However, in my garden, quite invasive. Does best as a ground cover.....

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Okay, Rachie, I have them pulled with your name on them.

Tuink, No wonder I had such good luck with it. LOL!

Suzy, I would love any the saxifraga mix and the sedum mix, or any of the above except the bergenia that I already have and the prunera vulgaris. I checked in while checking school delays there is a snow day just posted!) and please check the post I made a few posts above Suzy's. I pulled a bunch of stuff while sorting seeds and looking at wishlists, then I was too tired to look last night. I will look today at the wishlists, but if you see something let me know if you wish for it. Tuink, I think that I could split those up-so the salvias are gone to Bluuspiral and Tuink

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Okay, Flowerhead, they are all pulled for you -- and I have more if anybody else wants some, just sing out! Seeeee-Duuuuum

Suzy

My goodness - get caught hiking at the bottom of a ravine with precarious, slippery, sloping trails in a snow storm (Noaa predicted it wouldn't start until 5 hours later) with other adventures yet to come before finally dragging snow-dusted tails home - and come to find so much chat from those-with-more-common-sense going on while I was gone - y'all were right busy :)

Suzy - Ack! I wasn't trying to keep anyone out - per se - if we're still saying yes to newcomers, then I say Unclose us - er, sumpkin like that. Somehow I got the idea that the date to join the swap had passed, so it seemed polite to not put folks in the position of getting disappointed. I'm still a bit woozy after yesterday's adventures in trying to get home from the bottom of that ravine when the snow storm hit. When we got to the car, did we go home then? No! lol We went grocery shopping - things did not go any more smoothly inside that car than they did on foot earlier I gotta say. I need to start meditating on being "mindful".

KD & Suzy - here's my wish list (havel dmailed both wish list & do-not-want list to kd, but not to Suzy - is that right?) -

Dianthus alwoodii
Dianthus superbus 'Rainbow Loveliness'

Poppies other than Papaver rhoeas, somniferum, nudicaule, like:
P. alpinum - mixed or white or pink
P. anomalum
any dwarf poppy growing lower than the ones listed above

Digitalis 'Heywoodii' - can't resist anything with silvery leaves

white, fragrant and low flowers or w/ silvery leaves for a moonlight garden -
white-flowered annual sages, like Salvia coccinea 'alba' or S. horminum white
white asarina
white lobelia erinus

Lonicera fragrantissima (Winter Honeysuckle shrub) (very fragrant, nice to force indoors during winter)
Prunus mume (intensely fragrant during winter warm spells)

Lea - lol to the booboo - we're probably all a tad anxious about getting things right

I saw more seeds wished for on KD's Master Wish List page that I have - will dmail as I get them cleaned/packed/etc. later on tonight - after which will post new lists of seeds available, tagged from me and to me - with a link.

I made a list of the swappers who either don't have a wish list posted or only posted a few wishes - so I'll be checking for those from time to time. But, since I'm having eye problems, it's hard to read the whole thing again, so I'll be posting anything else I have that I think someone else might like - and hope you'll dmail me if you want it.

So - who wants Oenothera glazioviana 'Tina James' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/67119/ ? plmk via dmail.

Illoquin, thanks for snagging that white sage for me from Flowerhead, but - picky thing that I am - I dmailed her not to tag the white sage for me. Hopefully someone will have a sage I know will be annual and that also has the latin name. It's only with the latin name that I can tell how shade-tolerant it is. Evidently, white-flowered Salvia coccinea (among others) can tolerate more partial shade here than certain other sages. Tuink - this one's all yours - I already dmailed Flower about it.

Who wants purple Angelonia? I had a great harvest last summer and will divy up between swappers here - not sure how many packets yet - so let me know via dmail who wants them and who doesn't.

Starlight - the seeds you tagged for me are beyond great - thank you. Now! how about letting us know more about what you would like?

Off to shovel some of that pesky white stuff -

karen

There are sooo many threads....I'm so confused! Is it just me? Any who, I plan on sending LOTS of seeds to Suzy that need good homes! I would rather GIVE than receive. Hope that's okay.

Happy sowing everyone!

Nelson, NH(Zone 5a)

Who could say no to that Shirley? lol!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Hopefully, no one! :~)

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Shirley,

Brandywine tomoatoes & that squash are on Charleneplants wishlist, if that helps any

Hello all,
Here is the updated wish lists summary for all players. I know it is not perfect, but it should provide a reasonable summary of everyone's wishes. For those of you that are getting ready to post you can give it a quick scan (and I do mean "scan" as it is 24 pages :-)) and maybe tag a few of your untagged items before posting to Suzy. I am limited to the number of edits I can do per day, so the list will not be updated again for awhile. Thanks so much all, and thanks Suzy, what a tremendous swap you are putting on! KD

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4397831

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi all-

Plan on me closing this thread tonight and starting number 6.

Read all the summaries above, but don't post any more. Go ahead and post wants, though, esp the people who just posted long lists.

KD & Ansonan, glad you are back from the Dark Side, BTW I got both your Sedums etc.

We might have one more person sneaking in, I can't help it...I am looking at a pile of seeds from WZ and I eiher have to get rid of them or send them on to other people....and it's so hard to say good bye to them!

Speaking of which, doesn't anybody need a perfectly wonderful, driect sow flower that blooms super early? Yes, folks, it's Calendula Citrus Cocktail!

Here is a pic of Calendula 'Radio', I wintersowed last year. It eventually petered out inthe sun, heat and drought, only to reseed and bloom again in fall.
