doesn't the NE win every time?
at least that's the word on the street...
please set me straight: what is the time duration for this "most posts" contest?
I would love to help you get a headstart - it's the least I could do...
What do you miss most in the winter?
Pixie, Pirl,Victor, Debilu, Al--What great pictures!
I miss what everyone above has said. All the senses seem heightened in the warm months. But maybe it's winter that makes us so appreciative of the bounties of spring/summer/fall. At this moment, no need of theraflu in s/s/f is what I miss most.
Katye - I personally don't really care if we have the most posts, but it goes from early Monday through Sunday.
Venu, so sorry you've not been well, hope you feel better soon!
Didn't bother me too much until they called us "pesky"...that just wasn't nice! LOL
Yes - sorry - feel better Weeze!
I second that! Feel better fast, Louise. I miss our daily garden work outside and our mutual encouragement.
Pixie - I agree!
Earlier we were talking about missing Humming Birds and a friend sent me this and I wanted to share. Enjoy!!
THE BIRTH OF A HUMMINGBIRD
This is truly amazing. Be sure to click on NEXT PAGE
at the bottom of each page; there are 5 pages in all. A lady found a
hummingbird nest and got pictures all the way from the egg to leaving
the nest. Took 24 days from birth to flight. Because you'll probably never
in your lifetime see this again, enjoy; and please share.

It is amazing.
I miss all my roses... and all the dahlias!!!! :(...
Nice link, Celeste - thanks!
That was an awesome link - thanks for sharing!!
What I miss most, actually, is being able to putter around outside - the sun on your face, the dirt under your nails, the fresh air, the cats thinking that I'm supposed to be petting them instead of gardening!
It's not the same to putter in the house - that's called work!
Nice garnish.
But he (?) looks so proud!! Victor's right, nice garnish......Chef by night???
Ratatouille!
Memory, I love to watch my cat, Smokey, when there's snow on the ground. She sits on top of the snow, listening carefully. Then she'll pounce at different places. Sometimes a mouse will scamper through to the surface. It's hilarious!
Emily - you actually have time for a hammock?!!!
You know PrimroseSue, I 'm glad you reminded me. Summertime is too busy. I just like the idea of a hammock! 'Specially round about now.
YankeeCat, that is an amazing photo. Is that Wallingford? I love the look on his face: "Don't tell me I did something WRONG? I'm a cat! "
Actually that is Holly - Wallingford's looooong suffering "sister". I never left the screen door open again after she brought me that snack. She is great at getting voles usually leaving them at the back door and going back for more. Purrsonal best was 5 in a single day.
Thanks for the good wishes. I am really starting to feel human again. I'd like to beg some advice/ideas. I'd like to do a border along the drive with TBI, Siberian, And JI. Mix in some lilies for later bloom. But what to add for fall that is not to tall? It is a very sunny area.
Dahlias!
Pirl, You're the best. I did order some from Dutch not even thinking of that area. I should increase my order. And I'm going to check Oakes for some lilies.
The short dahlias need no staking and bloom profusely. One package (for $1.69) has 83 seeds - enough for a nice show. Agway has them now: "Dahlia, dwarf (Unwin's) Mixed colors" by Harts. You can either sow them inside or directly outside. Yes, they'll be in bloom this summer and will form tubers. You can dig them or not - your pleasure. Plants at about 2 cents each are a delight. They grow 2' high per the package.
Thanks for that info Pirl. I will definately give the seeds a try, especially since I know that my fall digging up leaves something to be desired.
For two cents you won't even feel guilty.
They are hard workers. I have saved seeds from them before too.
Any of them singles? We don't have any Agways anywhere near here.
The package doesn't show any singles, Victor.
Do you start them indoors, Pirl?
T&M has the biggest selection I think of dahlia seeds.
I will, Victor, because I want to see the colors before I plant them.
I did see T & M, Al, but this package is solid colors, which is what I wanted.
How many weeks before going outside, Pirl?
The package says 4 to 6 weeks before they can go outside. I'll do at least 6 to 8 weeks since color is critical.
Thanks!
Anytime.
love the hummingbird link... thanks Pixie
thanks for sharing that info Pirl... I didn't realize they would bloom so quickly
Very nice, Kassia, but we'd like to see some of your roses - please!
