Signups open until Jan 8, dmail me if you need in after this, but I cannot hold your hand.
For your 2008 New Year's Resolution of organizing and decluttering, I am offering a Second Chance Wishlist Swap. This would include: 2007 seeds, 2008 seeds, plus: 2006* seeds, seeds from half-packs you have sitting around, yuccky swap stuff, and seeds that might include more chaff than you want to clean. Any source. Leftover commercial, garden, trades, we even taken stolen seed.
The deadline is Feb 1 for seeds to be into me, and I will mail them back 2 weeks later, on Valentine's Day. There is a 100 pack limit on seeds going back to you, so if a 1 for 1 trade is important to you, send 100 packs or fewer. All participants should tell me how many packs they sent and how many packs they want back.
The swap is divided into 2 parts: 1) Loose seed packs for the general swap and (2) seeds in baggies for a specific person.
For the loose seed packs, which are packs for the general swap, not for a specific person, I will distribute these based on who I think will like them the best, but I need some limits on quantities:
Limit quantities to 5 of a kind
Herbs ok, but No Veggies, No Shrubs or Trees. (for the general swap, it's ok to send these if you can find a person who wants them)
Limit the commonest seeds to 2 packs, unless you are sending them to a specific person:
COMMON SEEDS:
Morning Glories: Ipomoea purpurea, quamoclit
Brown Eyed Susan Rudbeckia fulgida and Rudbeckia triloba
Datura
Nicotiana sylvestris
Gaillardia
Red Cypress Vine
Malva moschata
Unnamed Hibiscus, like pink, swamp, or any other kind
Joe Pye Weed
Iron Weed
Liatris
Cleome
Four O Clock's (except Broken Colors, Kaleidoscope, etc.)
(If you want any of those listed above, please let me know!)
*No Delphinium older than 2008
*No Larkspur older than 2008
For the packs to a certain player, all you need to do is post your seeds and watch for the responses. This will be fast and furious, then there will be a lull, then more posting. Please use one post for your seeds available, and try to edit them off as they are taken, (and edit when you add on it as your clean, sort, and sow). You can dmail or post if you want somebody's seeds, but remember, it is up to the sender to get the seeds marked with your name on them, so be sure they see your request.
Grab a box of cheapie snack baggies, sandwich baggies, or ziplocs, and as people sign up, write their name on the baggie or on a slip of paper inside the baggie. If you have seeds for each participant, you might need 30 baggies.
Some seeds are premium seeds because they are rarer and "worth more". As loose packs of seeds come in, I sort of separate those out and distribute them in a way that makes sense in terms of what people send in. If you send in a lot of commercial half packs, or the more premium seeds, you will get more of those back in your envie.
WISHLIST
The last wrinkle is your wishlist! When you sign up, also post 10 things you'd like to have. These can be specific (Lupine 'White Snow') or vague (anything white for part shade). It is not "anyhting for butterflies and hummers" or "anything for part shade". Note: You will not be considered "in" the swap until this wishlist is posted.
I need to know what you want before your seeds show up! I have quite a stash myself and need to start seriously culling. Tell me the kinds of things you want!!!! In a private Dmail to me (with the subject line 2nd Chance Wishlist Swap) send your list of 10 or more things you'd really like AND a list of 10 things you really don't want. LOL! It would be so helpful to me if you also added things about you and your garden, such as: I have a Moon Garden; I have too much shade; I have a cutting garden; a Cottage Garden; I like bright colors; big & bold plants; pastels; pinks and purples; I am new to seed growing; I have every seed known to man, try to surprise me. Whatever you can tell me about yourself or your garden will help me sort seeds you'll like into your envie.
Foreign DG members: Yes! You can join! Send me a dmail with your address and I'll send the APHI paperwork to you.
NEWBIES: New DG Members/New Gardeners/New to Growing from Seed: Yes! Join in. You will receive back many more seeds than you send in, but I require that you make an effort to send in something. If you have absolutely nothing to send in, please dmail me. I wil probably send you to a small seed house (Fedco, Gourmet, Territorial) and have you buy a mega pack of a more unusual seed (all for less than $5.00 including delivery) and divide it up into trade sized packages. I'll make up the difference, and I promise you it will be well worth your effort and expense.
Things to pack up for the swap:
1. Your seeds. added: Since I need to send back as many packs as people send in, I need some help counting. LOL! On the baggies that are tagged for certain people, I'd like the number of packs you've enclosed for that person written on the slip of paper with their name so I don't have to go rooting through to count them.
2. Return address label (or piece of paper I can tape) to use on bubble mailer you send to me.
3. I will need at least a 10 x 14" envie, or a little box, to get your seeds to you. (The PO has a 3/4 inch limit on bubble envie thickness)
4. Postage to return your mailer to you. If you have 100 packs, use postage for 13 oz. and consider sending me a little box instead of an envie.) added: If you want extra packs back, really, really consider that box! And pay attention to the postage amount you send me as it will cost more than what you sent in. Do not be stingy on this postage.
5. A sheet of paper with your:
1. name,
2. address,
3. email,
4. DG name,
5. Number of seed packs sent, and number of seed packs wanted back
6. Description of your garden, and yourself as a gardener and grower from seed (new, middle, experienced.)
7. 10 things you want,
8. 10 things you don't want, and
9. a list of the seeds you are sending of all the loose packs that are not earmarked for another player.
6. Added Jan 9, 2008. Due to the sheer volume, I need to send these envelope or boxes back to you with delivery confirmations which cost an additional 75c.
7. Added Jan 11, 2008. Weezingreen's seeds came today! A big batch that cost her $26.00 to send. There are 26 people in this swap. Hmm. I am not saying send in a dollar postage to reimburse her postage costs -- do what your conscience says.
I think I have everything, but I'm sure I'll edit this at least once, so check back to this page right before you send your seeds. LOL!
Suzy

You hooked me.
Suzy, I'll have Salvia Coral Nymph marked for you.
Oh, this is too good to be true! I'm in! I'll get my lists ready.
FrauSnow
I'm in Suzy! Will have to go through and make list later. may take a day or two to get it together.
Got a question. How many seed do we have to put for each trade. I know the common stuf f is usually 25-30 seeds if I'm not mistaken, but what about rares and tropical's. For eample I have not alot but some fresh Lotus flower (Nelumbo, water Lotus) seeds. Enough for me and somebopdy mybe who has a water garden or pond. How many per package?
Would like some of your Salvia 'Victoria' if you have enough after everybody goes through the lists.
Starlight is that the lotus that is hardy to zone 4, If you decide to send that in I would love a couple of seeds to try. I have some Pride of Barbados or corkscrew vine if you are looking for either of those.
Oh, wow! Lots of joiners already -- I thought signups would lag because of the holiday and it might be a day or two before this got going. Welcome to Rachie, FrauSnow, Robyn & Starlight!
Starlight,
All I care about is the general swap seeds, the rest can be between you and your fellow trader. Whatever you 2 decide I can count as a full pack, just be sure you two are clear on smaller quanties.
Sure, I have some Salvia 'Victoria' with your name on it.
Only about 1/4 of my seeds are filed and organized, so that's what I have to do later this week, after I get dh back to work (and out of my hair). He might wonder why I place orders when I have so many packs already, so I have to keep them hidden. Sshhh!
Suzy
I'm not organized for this, but I do have seeds others might like, so let me reserve a spot here which I'll visit from time to time as I muster the seeds.

I'd like to join up. My first swap.
Welcome to Bluespiral, Maozamom, Cat64129, Seandor, LeBug, Margaran, PamSue & a special welcome to Andsonfan, our swap virgin! LOL!
Cat, I forgot to say , thanks (in advance) for sending Peaches & Dreams Hollyhocks. I read your post when I was supposed to be getting all dolled up for something or other, and couldn't answer right then, then later, I couldn't find the post again. I hate when that happens!
I am going to add to my list every night after everybody here is in bed and I can pull out my seeds, so keep checking my post (the second one in the thread). I might also add on to it during the day because I seriously have to get these packs in some semblance of order, and 5 or 6 packs being listed a night is not going to cut it.
Suzy

Suzy,
I would love to join! Thanks so much for organizing and including internationals (Canadian), I am getting low on my own seeds to trade but have quite a few in from swaps I cannot use (zone challenged & garden experience challenged for tricky things). I have the restricted list for US import and have never had a problem shipping seeds either way, but will Dmail you for specifics. Will post haves and wants later once I am more organized.
And I would absolutely love to try butterfly bush harlequin! Variegated or not I have become a big fan, I think you are already sending me honeycomb from Dylan's swap. And your salvia victoria - just a few seeds I am zone 5 so we will see how it does. Thanks again! KD
OK Suzy, you All Things Seed Queen, I'm in. I've got some seeds I've gathered, and some from 2007 I couldn't get planted, so I'll get those organized and posted here asap. (Let me know if you want me to pick up some seeds that need sorting, we can do some of those for you.)
Robin
Ah, That's a good point, Wind.
Listen up, peeps, I will try to not give you back seeds with your name on them :) The swap hostess of swaps past might have thought you'd appreciate the seeds for some reason, but also, when we get to the end, all hostesses might secretly be looking at a small pile of seeds and wondering what we should do with all the leftover junk. I do not care if you list my seeds on your list, none of us does. Go ahead and send my seeds back in to be redistributed. It will not hurt my feelings one iota. I guessed you'd like them, and I guessed wrong.
Dryad is gong to help me sort, and she'll help me with the double check at the end to make sure there are no duplicates, no sending back to the same person, etc., but if there are a whole lot of seeds, there is a law of diminishing returns...we can check and check and check and still find an "oops", but after a while, everyone is better off having them in their mailboxes, than still sitting at my house being tweaked.
By now most of you know I love the beautiful reds and corals and apricots, and yes, I was stunned that so few gardeners like these colors, and how many other gardeners like namby pamby pinks and dirty mauves (~snick, just had to throw that in there! LOL!), so there is no one who realizes one man's trash is another man's treasure more than I! The job of a swap hostess is to try to determine who would appreciate the trash and treat it like treasure. LOL! To that end, the more you let me (and others) know about what you'd like on this thread, and what you really don't like or want in dmail to me, the happiest you will be when you open the envie.
If you don't want back the same seeds you send into the swap, you probably should decorate the outside of the packs you send in for the general swap with a series of dots or dashes or clip a corner or do something distinctive to all the packets you send in so I know they are yours.
Welcome to Ana3 from the Netherlands, Grampapa, Wind, KD2000 from Canada, and of course, my Local DGer, Dryad.
Yes on the Honeycomb BB Wind & Cat; KD, yes on the Harlequin BB & Salvia Victoria.
KD, do you want any kind of BBs you can put your hands on? I have other colors, and I'm sure other people do, too. They take up so much room, I can never use all the seed I acquire! (If you get a pack of viable seed, you might get 20 or 30 or more BBs out of it. They bloom about 3/12 months after being wintersown, so you can tell the same year which are worth saving, and I usualy pull the ones I don't like and leave the ones that I do like to grow on. Honeycomb is a stubby flowered BB, not as graceful as most, so only save the plants that flower in an unusual yellow color. You can get more attractive blues, purples and reds from other BB seeds.

If anybody wants white profusion I can go outside and see if I have any but it's very very cold out there lol The freezing of them doesn't hurt them because you can WS them anyway and they do come true just not sure what I can get out there for now, but I'll check JLMK :)
I was wondering where everybody was I'm sitting at the computer doing seeds and going crazy lol
Wind, dmail ansonfan I'm pretty sure he has some moon vine seeds :) He's my buddy and I know a lot of seeds he has he he he He's running in town today but will be back later.
Illoquin, Thanks so much, I have Butterfly Bush "White Profusion", purchased two scraggly / half dead plants in June and they were exquisite shrubs by July!! So yes any and all other than white profusion would be great, also this is a big request and I would be happy to send in everything I can in trade, if anyone is growing Buddleija Alternifolia - aka Fountain / Alternate / Weeping Butterfly Bush / tree I would love a bit of seed or lots of chaff with a few seeds if they seed like the regular butterfly bush.
Thanks so much, I will try to post a list later tonight, a lot of things I received in trades and swaps I cannot personally use. KD
Wind I would like to have some ornamental pepper filus blue and some shiso perilla red don't need a lot they are easy to germinate, I'm still working on my list lol I don't know why we have to stop and do those 'other chores' lol I could get something done if I didn't lol
Suzy, I'm interested in your Castor Bean 'Impala' ,Cosmos 'Sensation . Dahlia seed from 'Bishop's Children, 'Euphorbia schillingii. I think we like similar colors. No "namby pamby pinks" for me either.
I hate pink. I had to wear a pink uniform for 8 years. It is one color that is at the bottom of my list, right under brown. I hate brown. I won't go on.
Editted list to new thread.

Hi,
kd2000 - I'd like your (A) Papaver s Paeoniflorum - "Pink Paeony" Poppy
maozamom - I have lots of shaded areas and a clean palette of an acre and need lots of shade plants so your hosta seeds are ideal. I would like some of all of them if that doesn't sound too greedy. I only need about 6-12 seeds of each except for the Frances William, which I already have.
FrauSnow
Rachierabbit! You snuck your list in, good job!
Will you pull these for me, please?
Aquilegia Cerulea
Blue Porterweed
Light pink Larkspur
Delphinium Consolida
Then tell me about the Zinnias you want. I, uh, might have an abnormally large selection of them. ROTFL!
Tall, Short...single, semi-double, double, beehive? Large flower, smaller flower....for butterflyies, for garden or for cutflowers? Color: Bright or pastel? Swizzle style or that goldy-brown Old Mexico style? Ya never know, I might have it!
Maozamom, I'd like a very, very large leaved hosta -- blue and puckered would be ideal, but the newer Sagaes sound good, too, so I guess I don't know enough to even request them but save me a pack of something LOL!
Thanks!
Suzy
Suzy, I would love some turtlehead seeds :0)
Well, Illoquin, you can always send more my way! O, BTW - I have your green note regarding your hypothesis on zinnia seeds. Have you thought of doing the controlled experiment to test your hypothesis?
rachierabbit, I would love some yellow holly hock, are they single by any chance?
I'm putting part of my list up, this is getting embarrassing lol Asking for seed and don't even have my a list up yet lol
