It last 5 days,it use to be just 3 days, but the added the 2 extra days ,because of the amont of people wanting to see it.

Sunny and 78 here Jan 3rd 2008 8 am ...warm hugs to all ...yes I love my 4'oclocks ...and they smell like jasmine x citrus blossom ...they always make me smile with their happy faces ...people say they are weeds ...well just because they are generous and smother the real weeds ... people hold them in contempt but I love them, they fill in awkward spaces and brighten dark shady corners (yes and spread their love around) here have some more

if you plant them in the right places so that they don't get sun until 10/11 in the morning the flowers stay open until then

Mine are all yellow, will have to get me some of those bi colored ones!
I watched a show yesterday about a Annette Kellerman from Sidney Aust.who was a great swimmer have you ever heard of her,or was this just a fiction movie?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Mine don't seem to open until the sun has done set, wished they open sooner,so I could enjoy there fragrance longer!

The name is not familiar to me perhaps it was before my time.
Tm my 4'oclocks are some kind of old fashioned ones they have solid and mixed colours all on the same plant ...you might see a red ...orange and yelloe/speckled/streaked and one odd petal colour ...all on the same plant I think that is why they are called the Miracle of Peru ...I think most of you have the modern hyrids ...solid colours. Some old fashioned things are good.

Generally under trees will give you the best results for the flowers staying open as long as possible my pictures were taken mid morning because the sun had not hit them yet, they seem to finish as the the sun gets them in the morning.

Well it was back in the early 20's!!!When she made her swim up the english channel.
Haven't seen any with the mixed colors around here, but will keep an eye open for them.

I think I saw a strain called carnival ...or something like that on your webs ...if you google broken colours in mirabilis ...you should find them somewhere. Good luck ...off to do my cooking now :)
have a good one everyone

Tman, how is the stew made?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Fry some hamburger ,throw it in a big pot,you can drain the grease if you want, but I use 90/10,so not a whole lot of grease, chop peppers oinons, carrots, green peppers, can of rotels tomatoes and peppers, celery and small can of whole sweet corn, can brown pinto beans shred some green cabbage red if you got it too!!!
Can stew tomatoes salt and pepper to taste simmer,to the veggies are done!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

Tropicman, that stew looks delicious. What's even better is that it's one pot cooking. . .perfect for a lazy cold day like today. I'm copying it down too! Thanks for the rrecipe.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Forgot something, for you youngsters who work outside the home, and cooked cabbage, results in gas or passing wind,uh you know what I mean!!Cook a whole potato in with your stew, helps with removing the gas from the cabbage, then if your old like me,eat the potato because I don't care!!!LOL

Then if your really exotic and want to kick it up a notch(sorry Emeril)!!!
Try a little of this hot sauce, there is no better in my opinion!!!

Just finished to huge bowls, wife like hers with bread and butter, but I prefer those food club crackers and butter!!!!
Your welcome,it's fast and easy to make.and smells sooo goood while it's cooking!!!!

New Orleans, LA(Zone 8b)

You forgot the "BAM!"

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL. Yeah, gotta have that BAM!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Tman, we do the same but we exclude bell peppers.
Besides the grind meat, we also add same amount of cubed meat (love the comb. texture) and use chicken stock. Red kidney beans too! Except we call it Cabbage Soup :>)
Thanks for the tip..next time we'll add potatoes. I'll sleep better!!!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Jaye, I haven't been sleeping very well...think that could be the problem? Need to go bake a potato right now.
