you are goofy! But, you know I threw away all the african violet leaves so these will be chirita leaves! I will have lots of av leaves in the spring. I will throw in the hybrid seedling strep. They are the most beautiful color dark pink ...........
Anything blooming?
Joseph,Can't wait to see you Mother's Lipstick bloom again. If I remember right it was a beauty. You have d-mail.
Diane,What a lucky find at Lowes.Codonanthes are a sweet plant.Congrats on your find!
Gail,I love Trail along!
Not blooming but what in the world am I going to do with all the chirita aiko.the leave putout 6 babies.
Jannich,
THOSE are SO CUTE! I could just pinch their little cheeks!
SOOO adorable!
Are they hard to grow?
I THINK I have streps down now and THINK I'm beginning to get episcia a little but sinningia is still a new one.
SO neat!
jannich, wow is all I can say for how well you grow those sinningias. Do you keep them in a terrarium? A lady in our av club says that plants will grow inside or outside the terrariums but you have to start them like you are going to grow them........is that true??????
Oh jannich! Those little bloomers are so cute! And all the Chirita babies- how exciting!!Great job
And I want to know -same as Gail- about the Sinningias as I intend to try them this spring...
Diane, I am going to copy mrsbonnies' list plus the ones I know that jannich has from seed.
Hi there ladies,Thank you! I love these little plants.
I'm still a newbie to growing the sinningias but so far I find them very easy to grow.I only grow a few in a terrariums(a cutting from MacKenzie in the glass bowl above) and the mico minis Rio das Pedras and White Spirit.I don't know if you could take them out of the terrarium once they are grown in one.
Maybe keyring or mrsbonnie could answer that question for us. All the other sinningias are just growing on the plant stand under lights.
Hope you ladies will want a Chirita Aiko when it warms up.The leaf Gail sent me put out too many babies.LOL.
Yikes,The news just said it's going to be 17 here tonight.Brrrr.
Looks like we are all in for COLD weather tonight ... unless you live waaaay South! Can you imagine though, Snow Flurries in Florida??!! We did have them years ago and it was very interesting seeing the white flakes flying through the air! It's 38 degrees here right now! Unbelievable! And, I sure don't look forward to the 27 predicted for later!
I know my sister and her husband are going to think they've been transported to the North Pole. They live in Fort Lauderdale and it's going to be 38 there tonight! That's record breaking I think for their area!
The only Sinningia's I've grown are the micro mini Rio das pedras and micro mini pusilla that I've gotten in trades. I really do want to try one of the regular size ones in Spring! The micro mini's I have are planted in glass containers but the lids have not been on in quite awhile so I would say they can be grown either in the open or in terrarium situations.
S. 'pusilla' blooming away:
How cute is that! Lin! I am impressed.
I have already had enough of this pinching back all buds for so many weeks. I love to take pics and don't have any blooms that I haven't already posted!
Uh Oh!!! My brother just called and said he is going to have to turn the main water valve off for the whole farm tonight at 8:00pm. Gotta go and fill some bottles, sinks, etc.
Eight hours at 26 will freeze and break the pipes.
gail
Jannich,
I would be honored if you would save me an Aiko baby :) I'm sure I will have SOMETHING to trade this spring :)
I don't have Aiko and think she's just snazzy :)
You will love her, Kim. Jannich, I did the same thing as you with Aiko. We must have put them down at the same time as I just planted up the babies this week!
Aiko blooms the prettiest yellow!
Is it normal to have fewer blooms right now?
Well, I don't have any blooms, Sally, because they are wanting me to try and enter the show (remember I have been growing avs less than a year). I am still pinching off every bud that appears so I can't answer your question about fewer blooms this time of the year. I think I stop pinching the buds on the avs next week and on the streps the next week.
i have never had so many plants in bloom at this time of the year, just amazing, still trying to figure out why,
mrsbonnie
Sally, you better enter something as I am positive i don't know what I am doing!!
Looks like Mrsbonnie's Computer has the hic cups! LOL
LOL!
All of the flowers are just beautiful... One day I hope to be able to show you some of mine.
Susan
wow. what happened there.lol
mrsbonnie
Mrs. Bonnie,
Me?
Susan
Lin,your pusilla is the cutest little plant.Love it! It's been so cold but the temps will be going back up next week.
Kim I have your name on Chirita Aiko.
Gail,How big do you let the chirita babies get before you seperated them from the mom leaf?
mrsbonnie's computer has the hiccups.LOL.
I just let mine get four leaves each. ( a nice little 4 leaves size wise) I always wait a long time to separate the babies on everything. That is why I often have to use a one sided razor blade to cut the babies from their mamas.
AWWWW Jannich, thank you so much!
Now I will have to find something to tempt you with :)
Do me a favor, send me a list of streps you already have and I will send you a list of babies that I have which you don't already grow and maybe there will be something you want in my list :)
Thank you again!
Hurry up spring!
Kim
Jan, you didn't tell me you have such gorgeous sinningias!!!!!!! I WILL learn to grow them if it kills me. Those are fantastic looking ones!

WOW, those are SO cute! Once I get streps down, those will be my next endeavor *lol*
I'm learning that I don't have enough humidity for episcia during the winter. Jannich, would you say that sinningia need less humidity? Do you grow yours in a dome or just out in the open air?
Great Growing! Those are so intricate! Lovely!
Kim, I think (just think) that you would have to keep them in jars, etc where you live. Even the ones I have had did better in containers.......
jannich does it better than anyone ( mrsbonnie is fantastic, too with sinningias)
Wow what beautiful flowers.... To be able to grow that beauty... I live in hope..
I fly home tomorrow and I had a wonderful time here... Nice place. Kim is a dear and today I met her family... Wonderful, Wonderful people... I am much better then before I left and now ready to go home tomorrow.... Kim will be coming to my home soon.... She to will need a break....
Hugs,
Susan
Thank you! I do enjoy these little plants.
Gail,I had 2 wonderful trades this past summer and they really boosted up my sinningia collection:)
Kim,I to have a hard time with the episcia, the edges of the leaves turn brown and crispy on me.Have you tryed giving them a lite spray in the morning before you turn your lights on?
Susan,I'm glad your having a good time.It is nice to get away once in a while.
Hi there Bonnie,I'm so glad you came along and answered that question.I'm still to much of a newbie to be answering. What is that awesome red flowering one in the back left?? And the bigger red one on the right?
the one on the right is spellbound, really neat, & the other is colorado sunset. They are both really cool plants.
bonnie
Oh my goodness, mrsbonnie!! Wow is all I can say. I like the idea of wicking and sitting on a capillary mat or piece of acrylic blanket.....That makes a lot of sense for more humidity!
Gorgeous plants & blooms!
I especially like your MacKenzie & Powder Puff Jannich
And that foliage & blooms on Spellbound is amazing MrsBonnie- what is the dusky rose colored one close to the front left?
