Yea. Hi Moe. Welcome everyone else that I forgot to mention earlier.

I came back and fixed this because I didn't want Moe to think I can't type, it's not Mope.

Alexandria, IN(Zone 5a)

Thanks robynznest. I am just glad to be able to have access to someone in my zone. There are tons of people on DG, but they just may not have experience for my zone. After last year and only starting a few types of seeds, this year will be very different! I am wondering when I will have time to plant!

Hi all, What a great idea! I have been container gardening with purchased plants for years, but am new to wintersowing and growing from seed (although I had great success with jumbo zinnias this year), and would love a mentor if anyone is available in zone 4 or 5. I also collected seeds this year and do not have a great selection but a few in reasonable quantities I could send to you X or my mentor, whichever makes sense for other newbies. Thanks so much. KD

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

What a wonderful idea! I'll be happy to mentor newbies in zone 7, if there are more newbies who would like some seeds. I've got plenty of flower and veggie seeds!!!

It would be very helpful if newbies could indicate which growing zone they are in under their name. That way the information shows up each time you post a question or response.

Go to your member page.
Click on "My Info" (top of the page)
Click on "Manage Your Preferences"
Click on "Your Location"
Click on your zone. If you don't know your growing zone, there is a link with a map to help you.

Wow! I've been away for a few days ... this really took off. Thanks to all you mentors so willing to help us newbies.

Thanks maccionoadha for being my mentor. I'll send you a dmail to introduce myself and include a list of my winter sowing seeds.

Happy New Year everyone!

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

I would love to join as a newbie for Zone 8 or 9. I
think I can grow for either. I hope there is someone
out there for me. Seems the longer this thread gets,
the more want to join!
Thank you to all Mentors who have experience and
seeds to share!

Metrowest, MA(Zone 6a)

Newbie here in Zone 6.

Thanks for the help!

Great, the more the merrier.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I want to be a mentor, summers in zone 5a and winters in 11.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Mittsy, I wanna go to 11 with ya........we can do a deal! LOL

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

I love Cocoa Beach...I was born in Titusville. dc5, pick me up on the way down!

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey what about me? Can I come with you?

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

If you can get here you are all welcome. I will share cuttings, extras of everything I have.

Just yesterday dh was telling me that there was NO way it was all going to fit in the van for the trip back up north. I plan on a big giveaway just before we leave, so start saving your change for postage.

What would be ideal would be to have another newbie snowbird that needs a mentor.

I surprise myself with the amount I can grow in my tiny condo patio garden. I just love these peas. First time I tried them. Snap peas Sugar Ann. The plant in the background is papaya.

Me 3, or 4, whichever it is! :)

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

This site maybe useful to mentors and newbies alike - just because you are both in the same zones doesn't mean you have the same growing conditions. This is a much more detailed climate map. I have asked rosewynd to check it out, since I don't want to send seeds that are likely to fail - which could happen if they are not well suited to her climate.

Anyway - check it out.

Luckily my newbie is only a few miles from me, with the same weather and soil conditions. Thanks Seandor

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

mittsy..those are great peas...I used to grow them in my garden in Illinois I had to watch it when i sent the kids out to pick things as they would fill their pockets to eat later and then I would find them in the wash.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Seandor! Roses to you! That map is a bomb, it's right on the money! WOOHOO! I bookmarked that bad boy!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Mittsy, we love them so much I buy 5 to 8 lbs and succession sow them. There's only 2 of now, so we won't have to share, until the sons figure out the time is about right. LOL Yep, pick and eat as you go. They are so yummy.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Doccat has volunteered to be my mentor for veggie growing and we are doing very well with that.

I still can offer mentoring to anyone in 8a-b for perennials, etc.

My dgd's have honored me with their assistance in sorting, cleaning and storing this summers supply of seeds so have some to share.

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

Seandor, that is a great map--much more reflective of the various zone-subtleties. I wish these ratings were the "standard" that we all used.
Jsxtiger, I checked it out: According to the Sunset map, I'm in zone 34 and you're in zone 37--but I think we can work it out!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Hey CapeCodGardener - I'm zone 37 too - go figure, but Springfield is more like Hartford than the Berkshires.

Anyway, I am glad people are finding the map useful :-)

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

Well whaddya know, I think I have a mentor! After
talking with so many people so far away most of
the time it feels strange to have someone practically
down the street!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

:-D

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

It had me so far in between that I will have to take time to figure mine out! LOL

Blackshear, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi X, I would like to correct my inscription to the list. I am a newbie I sure can't mentor. Thanks. According to the map on sunset.com, I would be in z28. I like this idea about a mentor. Thanks.

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

I am 43-man you guys sure chatted while I was organizing :oP Can't keep up-got to get back to my seeds...truest jinxed me-now I have more to organize-LOL
