Stop and visit, talk all you want. pt6

(Zone 7a)

I have the GH up against the house. Well, it's actually in the garage right now. It does make a differnce where it is and if it's anchored, which it isn't. The wind kicks up and...WHOOSH!!! Down it goes! The two little trees were in the ground and it smashed them flat and broke them off ground level. They were for a trade, too!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Well doggone it anyway! Mine isn't anchored, just a lot of plants in it, which are all now dead! :( The night we got in to the teens they were all toast! Poor trees, and the person that was suppose to get them! :(

(Zone 7a)

Double frowny face here. I have oodles of seeds, though. I have my work cut out for me this winter. All those seeds waiting for me to sow them! LOL Excitement there!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

And just think, when I get to it, you will have even more seeds to sow! LOL

(Zone 7a)

Did the envelope ever get to you?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

OOPSY Yes it did, sorry!

(Zone 7a)

Don't be sorry! LOL I'm the one took so long!

I have to pass this along. Lyrics to a song I love...

"When the light begins to fade,
And shadows fall across the sea,
One bright star in the evening sky,
Your love's light leads me on my way.

There's a dream that will not sleep,
A burning hope that will not die.
So I must go now with the wind,
And leave you waiting on the tide.

Time to fly, time to touch the sky.
One voice alone - a haunting cry.
One song, one star burning bright,
Let it carry me through darkest night.

Rain comes over the grey hills,
And on the air, a soft goodbye.
Hear the song that I sing to you,
When the time has come to fly.

When I leave and take the wing,
And find the land that fate will bring,
The brightest star in the evening sky,
(Is your love far from me)
Is your love waiting far for me.

(oh) Is your love waiting far from me..."

Have to go to the dungeon now. Later!

(Zone 7a)

The Soft Goodbye by The Celtic Women...Enjoy.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

AWE what a pretty song, C! Have fun in the dungeon!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

I shoulda known that as Sienna is hooked on them! Every time they are on the tube she is watching it!

(Zone 7a)

I knew that girl had good taste! Good for you, Sienna! LOL I haven't seen them on TV but I would like to. I have some of their songs on my computer that I downloaded.

Seems whenever I talk to you folks, I LOL a lot!

It's snowing again and all I can think of is snuggling wiht DH and and good book. Or warm beef stew and DH watching it snow. Hmmm...

Looks like video games for me tomorrow. And maybe a movie. Both of us are off and we were thinking about spending our Xmas money. We saved a little bit back for this and we don't know what we want. I will get some planting supplies from Wally World, things to start my seeds. I'll need a whole bunch, though! LOL

And here's a random pic...

Sharing another Irish favorite. I first heard this song when I was a wee lass of four. (Irish on me mums side, sort of..that's a whole new story.) Last summer, Dh and I were watching TV and came across a concert of classical music. Hmm...we said. This looks like fun. We'll watch this. So, we're watching and enjoying the music. Mozart, Bach, Tchiachovsky...Good stuff. Then, they have singer come onstage and she sings a very lovely Japanese song and they dedicate it to one of their audience. Just beautiful.

They bring out another singer, a redhead...

And then they start playing this...

" 'Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming alone.
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone.
No flow'r of her kindred,
No rosebud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes
Or give sigh for sigh.

I'll not leave thee thou lone one
To pine on the stem,
Since the lovely are sleeping
Go sleep thou with them;
Thus kindly I scatter
Thy leaves o'er the bed,
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.

So soon may I follow
When friendships decay,
And from loves' shining circle
The gems drop away!
When true hearts lie withered
And fond ones are flown
Oh! Who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?"

I couldn't stop crying. Took me back to my kidhood and I was crying so hard I couldn't hear the song. I'm starting again because this song means so much. A song of loss and remembrance.

I don't want to seem forward or step on your toes, Tammy but maybe you could add this song to your memery garden for your friend?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Awe Celia, that was awesome! So glad I decided to check in before heading off to bed! I don't think you could ever step on my toes girlfriend! That is such a lovely sentiment for those we remember and keep close to our hearts! I do have a laminater, so I will try to copy and paste this and save it for my garden! I think a rose, if I can find one with at least one of their names, would definitely be special to go along with it! Thanks for being such a dear friend, and know that I cherish you! ♥ As well as all of you other wonderful people I have grown to love on here! OK, saying nighty night with a few tears in tow!
LOVE YA ALL!
Tammy

Hi Everyone - I just spent the past hour or so reading through this thread and feeling a part of the last month or so of some of your lives. You seem to be a fun group and it is always good to see people drawing strength from one another and we face the challenges in each of our lives. The laughter among you is soul strengthening also and much needed at the end of some of our overly full and overly hectic days.

Several of you mentioned being awakened at 3 AM. Join the club. It is probably going on a year or so now that my sleep patterns are all mixed up. I awake any where between 1 and 4 AM and sit here for a few hours before beginning my day. Needless to say I fall asleep very early in the evening and start the routine all over again. It doesn't really help my sleep having my 18 year old son come in to the kitchen and make snacks in the early morning hours or having my three dogs begin barking at some sound. Thankfully I seem to be pretty much okay energy wise during the day time or I would have sought medical attention for this before now. All is good.

Thank you all for letting me be a part of your lives for this past month. Take good care everyone.

Ruby

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Hi, Ruby and welcome. Don't go away--stay and chat. We have a good time and even though we poke fun at one another, nobody gets offended. Although we don't always agree, we still love each other and try to encourage one another. I'm one of the older members of this group and the younger "kids" call me "Mau". You may have read the explanation as to how I got that name in one of the earlier posts on this thread. I won't go into it here, but it stands for "Ma". Marcy_1 and I sort of stick together--we're the same age. Terry, Celia, Tammy, Janis and the rest are several years younger but we try not to let the "generation gap" keep us from enjoying each other's company. If fact, I would say there is not much of a generation gap at all on this thread. So please stay around and join the fun. We're always glad to welcome a newcomer to the thread!

Some of y'all were talking about New Year's Eve and what you are doing to celebrate. DH and I don't go out on New Year's Eve, either. Too many crazies on the highway, etc., plus we are usually in bed before midnight and we never even know when the clock strikes 12---LOL The past several years I have usually been babysitting one or more of the grandkids while their parents attend a party at a friend's house, etc. The g'kids spend the night with us and their parents get to sleep in on New Year's Day. However, no one has called to ask us to babysit this year so I guess they are all staying home, too. :o))

I'll be back later in the day to see what y'all have been up to.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Sigh... the kids dad just called, he's not coming to get the kids today, he didn't yesterday, he is sick. I know he is sick, he sounds terrible, but it makes me so mad. I was sick this week, but I didn't have any choice but to keep the kids. He asked me how they acted when I told them he wasn't coming, and I told him the truth, they were upset for a few minutes, but then they settled down, because they are getting used to it. Made him a bit angry, which wasn't my intention, I just wanted him to realize what he is doing to them. He has been canceling a lot lately, and he has had reasons every time, but it still gets to me. The kids need him in their lives. Christmas day he showed up late, and only kept them about 3 hours. I promised him that I would stay in this area so that he could see the kids when ever he wanted, but Mike wants to move to Florida, and I'm tempted.

I finally feel a little bit better. Got some stuff done around here yesterday, we took the tree down, and put presents away, and got laundry folded and hung up and put away. Made dinner 2 nights in a row LOL which is an improvement.
:))

Mike got me a heated mattress pad for our bed, and boy is it nice. I had a hard time sleeping, not sure if the bed was too warm, or if it was because I slept for a couple hours yesterday afternoon. I'm tired now though, and won't get to go back to bed, unless Mike's son Jason comes to get the kids, but Mike said to let him know if Jeff canceled because Jason wanted the kids. Hopefully I'll get a break for a couple of hours. Little Jeff wants to ride his dirt bike, but someone has to be outside with him, and its only 31 degrees out right now.

New Years Eve, I usually stay home, because of the idiots on the roads too, but this year I think we are going to my sisters house. Its only 4.5 miles away, and Mike doesn't drink so we should be OK. Not sure yet though, might just stay home and watch movies.

We are going tonight to get the kids new shoes, (why do they outgrow them so fast???) and I had mentioned wanting new cookware, said I was gonna save up some money and get a set of good copper bottomed stuff. Mike told me to look at JC Penneys and see what they had. I didn't want to freak him out by showing him the prices on the copper bottomed stuff, but he insisted. I found a set that was $750 on sale for $400. I thought he was gonna fall over LOL Guess we'll just have to wait and see. http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/ProductsHOM.aspx?DeptID=25439&CatID=26897&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=10bcc7d&ProdSeq=10&Cat=cookware+sets&Dep=Housewares&PCat=cookware&PCatID=25864&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=34&RecPtr=&ShowMenu=&TTYP=&ShopBy=0&RefPageName=WindowSolutionHOM.aspx&RefCatID=25864&RefDeptID=25439&Page=2&CmCatId=25439|25864|26897

Well, gonna get off here a bit and see what the kids are into, I have a ton of dishes to do too :((

Hugs to all,
Janis

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Janis, that's an excellent set of cookware! And a good deal, it will last a life time. Good cookware is an long term investment. I have a set that is no longer manufactured that I bought in 71. Paid $200 for it and I still have it. Also copper bottomed, but all stainless steel. They still shine like brand new. I happened to run across a couple for sale on e-bay and almost fell out of my chair. They were asking $60 a pan and bidding was brisk! One collector was offering $350 dollars just for the cookbook that came with the set? Go figure. LOL

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Sorry I haven't been on much.

Paulownia tree....bad. Those things are invasive just about everywhere. Be sure to check your local extension agency.

Pots and pans....the best investment I ever made was to buy mine off of QVC. They're called Cooks Essentials. The best part of them? I can use a metal fork or spoon inside of them and it doesn't harm the nonstick coating. I have the stainless set, can't remember the name, but the other other stainless I have is called the 500 series I believe. I have 2 pots in that series. They can go in the oven up to 500 degrees, hence the name. If you're interested, just let me know and I'll go poke around later at QVC for a link to them. I also have their bakeware set and the turkey pan. Love the stuff.

Now I'm off to do more painting and more urethaning and to fix holes in the hardwood floor in the kitchen. By my guess, the sink has been in at least 5 different places.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

doccat, is it really that different cooking with copper than it is with a regular set of say stainless or T-Fal? I found a different set at Target http://www.target.com/Chefmate-Copper-Bottom-Cookware-8-pc/dp/B00007CWER/ref=cm_reviews_dptop_next/601-1046448-5893732?ie=UTF8&sortOption=-SubmissionDate&alt%5Fview=custReviews&start=11
and I'm worried about the reviews. I want something that I can actually use. I'm not a bad cook, but I want to be a better cook LOL I would love to take cooking classes, or even go to a culinary school at some point, but thats way in the future.

How do you keep the copper looking new?

Janis

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

terry, I would love to see the set you have! I just want something good quality that I will be able to use for years. I wanted the copper bottom more for looks than anything else, but now I am wondering if its a good idea. Sigh.... LOL

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Welcome Ruby! Always nice to see "new" faces here. I know you aren't new to Dave's though...have seen your name around. :)
Janis...I had to laugh about the pans. Most men seem to have no clue about prices of cookware. But let a good tool come along...woohooo...they know those prices!!! LOL! I hope you continue to feel better today.
Well as usual, nothing new here! We have been slowly taking down the tree. Still have to take the tree itself down today. I told DH not to take it down until I can write down what plugs into where!! Every year I have a devil of a time figuring it out, and want to just zip through it next year! It is a prelit tree, and some dummy (me)....took the tags off each strand of lights that told what letter went to each thing...geeezzz.
Anyway..it takes a while to get all strands lit. A real pain in the patoochie!
We spent yesterday reminiscing through old photos. I was hunting a certain....which I didn't find. But we went through about 4 big boxes. And today, I am going to go get some of those big plastic tubs to put them all together.
What do you all eat for New Years Day dinner??? We always have pork and saurkraut, black eyed peas for good luck, mashed potatoes and gravy. This year I am cooking a pork tenderloin. I think, after the new year, I will be about porked out, what with ham at Christmas, and tenderloin on New Years!!
Doccat5...not sure if I said hello to you or not? Hi...and welcome! :))
Sometimes I am braindead here!
Terry...are you feeling any better yet?? Haven't seen you on.
Hi to Kwan, Misty, Marilyn, and whoever else is lurking about!! Have a great day everyone!

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Wow...three posts while I typed!! Good to see you all!! Copper...to be kept nice, must be scoured every time with a copper cleaner. I have a set of Revere ware...old time stuff. Still looks good though!

(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone! Good to see people about today.

I have a copper bottom set I got from my mother. She had it for years and years. Farberware. I think she got it in the fifties. They don't have the copper on the bottom anymore, though, but they still cook like professionals...lol

Everyone, WELCOME! I like to "see" many "faces" here. Makes it feel like a community. I love talking to all of you. Special friends? Yes, you are. I would love to meet all of you one day. It would be like we always knew each other.

It was snowing earlier but it's stopped now. Snow advisory out for all the Wasatch front tonight. That's along the Rockies here from Provo to Ogden.

I was thinking about starting a different thread about local site-seeing spots in your areas.
What do you think? We have lots here in Utah for people to see, but I was thinking about stuff that only the locals know about. Something fun like that.

Going to have breakfast the ncome back and visit agian if anyone is about.

Tammy, I'm glad you liked the song.

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Kwan, do you have to cook any differently with the copper bottomed pans? Geez I'm confused about it LOL

I'm glad to see the new faces and people posting again too. :)) I think the holidays and vacations really got to everyone. I know I'm ready for the kids to go back to school!

This is so true. I met my best friend on DG about 3 years ago when I joined. We started talking in the coffee thread in the Parking Lot forum, then in chat, then on the phone, every day LOL, and then in July, for my 35th birthday, she bought me a round trip ticket to go spend 2 weeks with her in Iowa. It was awesome, and she is hopefully flying here in March for the Trace Adkins concert.

The thread about local things to do would be great LOL as I'm looking for things to do with Gayle when she comes here. We are definitely going to the Mound Museum in Moundsville WV, and possibly (weather permitting) to Coopers Rock WV. I want to find more stuff to do here locally, and the neater and cheaper the better LOL. Our local news web site used to have a list of "Day Trips" but I'm not sure if it is still online.

Well, Mike just called, he is closing early, the 2 other gas stations right near him are having a price war type deal happening, and his prices are way higher and he can't compete. Its been a bad weekend. He only sold like 500 gallons of regular Friday and 800 yesterday. On a good day he does over 10,000. He is closing early, and we are going to go shopping, and taking the kids (I must be outta my mind) to Chuck E Cheese. So I gotta hop in the shower, and hope the kids don't kill each other while I'm in there LOL

(Zone 7a)

Fingers crossed on the kids not killing each other!

Sounds like you have your day cut out for you. Sorry Ex is giving you trouble. They can be such a pain in the ...

One of my DD funniest stories comes from Chuck E.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7b)

Cooking with a copper bottomed pan is no different than any other. But copper distributes the heat more evenly, less chance of "burnt offering".....LOL
Thanks for the nice welcome Marcy. And good luck at C Cheese. We went with friends to the local one for one of their kids bday parties. It was a great, since I like video games etc, I did pretty good on the tickets which I gave to the bday girl. She had such a good time picking out "junk" treasures. LOL

(Zone 7a)

I still pick out "junk" treasure! LOL Love the little joys you can find at a yard sale or whatever.

It's snowing again. 2-4 inchess expected. And now we're off to spend Xmas money! Yea, us! LOL

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

CHRISTMAS MONEY? WHAT'S THAT? How come grandparents never get Christmas money to spend?? --it's always the other way around. Marcy, I say we start a grandparents revolt and insist that we get Christmas money next year! LOL

Oh, wait, I must apologize because I just remembered we did get a gift card to Bed, Bath and Beyond from some dear friends this year. I can hardly wait to go and spend it! LOL

I've never had any copper-bottomed pans but I do have a good set of heavy stainless steel pans that I really like. I bought them several years ago through the Betty Crocker program. You know, you save those little coupons on the different boxes of Betty Crocker products and then you send off for their catalogue and you can order all kinds of stuff from them at discounted prices. I probably have a kajillion saved by now because I haven't ordered anything from them in several years. I need to order a new catalogue and see what I can find. It's a good thing that this set had flat bottoms on them because we just bought this house last year and the cooktop is one of those ceramic cooktops that you have to use flat- bottomed pans in order for the heat to distribute evenly.

Celia, I am glad you are getting the snow and not us. However, I always enjoy seeing pictures of somebody else's snow. LOL
Speaking of pictures, Tammy, where are those puppy photos?

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Hey all! Sorry to hit and miss, but gonna eat (for the first time today!) and try to finish the new green house! Will try to catch up later, but if I missed anything let me know!
HUGS
Tammy♥

(Zone 7a)

We're missing something! LOL Puppy pics! LOL

Put out the word next year that you want gift cards. It worked for us. lol

We just got back from Wally World. We got three movies. Escape From NY, Escape From LA and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. I got three seedling starter trays and....A LABEL MAKER!!! WooHoo!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Still gotta get Shaun to figure out why they won't load on puter, but trying to get green house done. :)

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Marilyn, I'm in for the grandparent's revolt!!! WE WANT MONEY!!!
I actually gave my two older grandaughters gift cards to Wallyworld this year INSTEAD of money. I'm not sure the one was too happy about it though. Don't know about the other one. We didn't see her. Her sister took it to her. Oh well.
We got some gift cards too. One to Cracker Barrel restaurant...and two phone cards...lol...so we can call our kids more! I like gift cards, as long as they are for something we want...lol!
Tammy...bring the greenhouse up here and I will finish it for you!! Or....I mean....for me!! I have been threatening to get one for the last 3-4 yrs. I have my money all saved for it too. I just can't make up my mind what exactly I want...or where I want to put it! Terrible huh?
Do any of you have Big Lots stores?
We just got back from there, and I bought a BP wrist monitor. Am anxious to try it out.....but told DH to leave it until tomorrow, as we both are tired....and don't feel like reading directions tonight.
Also went to Wallyworld and got plastic tubs to put stuff in. I got six of them....and may get more on Friday when I go.

(Zone 7a)

Marcy, I got one of those BP monitors for home use. I have to take it to my Dr. next time I go because it doesn't seem to be accurate. We want to compare with the one at the Doc's. Check out the big word they taught us in medical assistant school...sphygmomenometer. If you can't say it, it's okay. I can and am quite proud of that fact! LOL

Been busy for the last 2 hours planting seeds. Whew!

Gift cards are great! Someone thinks enough of you to get you something and you get to pick your own gift at the same time! The best! LOL

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

sphfig....mo...men..ahh....meter? What does it mean?

(Zone 7a)

Yes! LOL It's a blood pressure cuff.

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

Ok! What a word....lol!! Never heard it before!

(Zone 7a)

Next time you're at the Doc's, read the dial on the cuff. It should be printed on it. Take a course in medical assisting and you'll never meet a word you can't say! LOL

New Madison, OH(Zone 5a)

I was an optician for years...guess I never noticed that....lol!!
I will have to check this new one against my regular BP monitor.
Thanks...but think I'll pass on the medical assisting course. I have no desire to go back to work.!!

(Zone 7a)

Agree! LOL

I finished my seed trays. Yea. Now my back hurts.

216 seedlings...Whew!
