Hi all you poor little snow bunnies ...I can't even imagine it!
We had rain most of last night and this morning but a little sunshine at the moment, may I send you some sunshine in the form of "Peaches and Cream" this is the one that throws the sports ...it is known for this habit and it's name alludes to the habit of not knowing wether it will be peaches or cream or both :) I have grown the white/pink and it died from the drought when I was away caring for a sick relation in the heat of summer, mine was the double and I was sad to lose it.This one in the picture grows to 15 ft if you let it ...I have to keep it in line or it will swallow everything. My pink one that you refer to as Kona TM is called Mrs George Davis and I suspect it is in the genes of my Peaches and Cream. I think we have different names for the same things in each country,
Stay warm drink lots of cocoa!
chrissy
Mmmmm nothing like soup!
Play hookey, and tropical gardening in the greenhouse!2
Marcy, hope you made lots of soup, were all coming over for a bowl!!!
That will warm the tummy!
Chrissy, that sure looks close to what I have too!
Just think 4 more days and they will start getting longer again,so more sunshine will be on the way!
That's a beauty Chrissy. It's in the 50's here and windy!! The wind chill can cut you through your bones. Times like these I wish I'm in the tropics. So, in the meantime, I'm compensated by the GH's ambience!
Stay safe, Pepper, Marcy and Tman.
I did...I made LOTS of soup!! And you all are welcome!! I told Dave we would be eating soup all week long!! It's good though!
Chrissy, sorry about losing the other hibiscus. I'm sure it was pretty too.
Don....can't wait until the days get longer! (sorry Chrissy!)
LouC...I hope your son gets things repaired! It's not good to be without heat!
We did have some ice, but then it warmed up and the ice melted before the 2nd snow came. We actually had two separate snows here....which is another reason I don't really know how much we got.
Ok...I made a batch of caramels earlier. I have been wrapping them ALL evening!! It made 5 pounds worth. I still have about a third of the batch to go...but they are gonna have to wait till morning.
Night everyone...sleep well. :))
Ohhh yeah...that's pretty!!!! Thanks Chrissy!!! Nite!
I'll say very pretty shade of pink, almost a hot pink!
Beautiful Chrissy! Love that shade of pink! Just gorgeous!!!! That'll brighten up your day! I have a pink tropical that was in bloom yesterday, but it's a single! Very Pretty!
We're making Chilli! Boy does it smell good! Y'all come on over and have some!
Set aside a bowl of that chilli for me. And top it with some green onions, pretty please!
Like they'd say in Louisiana, it's gumbo weather here today. In the 30's..brr enough for me.
Question Tman, how low can the gh be for the trops?
I killed my first brug cutting!! Was too overenthusiastic, thinking I did the perfect thing. Instruction was to make sure the soil drain well, so I add vermiculite! Added too much of it, and retain ALL the water!! Rot the cutting!! Boo hoo!
Ok..chalking that up as an expensive experience. Won the cutting from eBay! :((
Jaye, can you just cut the rotted part off?
You can start a cutting one inch long you Know!
My first cuttings came from guy from Mississippi, and they were just a inch long, put it in a Styrofoam cup, kept soil moist and they all rooted.
Chili you bet grade some cheese, get out the hot sauce, open a pepsi,I'll be right over!!!!
I rushed thinking maybe there's an inch to save....:(( Pulled out the whole thing, upper part was hollow, lower end soft. The soft surface peels off!! Right now it's wrapped in paper towel. (Trying to make a hardwood!) Yes, I deserve the shame of killing from ignorance!!
A kind neighbour gave me an NOID brug. That I rooted in water. So far, there are roots!! Yeah.
A few days ago, another great angel sent me Adeline and New Orleans Lady all rooted with beautiful leaves. This time, I learnt not to mess with too much vermiculite. For good measure's sake, I add a l'il gypsum to ensure no caking up of the soil! Had I lost my mind, TMan??
I root mine in Miracle Grow Potting Soil. So far have had pretty good luck!
Mine are in Miracle grow potting soil and just doing great. Gifts from Mitch, my mentor.
Thank you Jeanne and Christy! Bless you both! Yes, that's the brand of potting soil for the two ladies right now. I know, should have asked the Brug Forum, but I'm at ease here, besides Mid-South....lolol!!
Lesson 2. I am also starting to keep a journal...ty Jeanne for that idea!
Lesson 3. Quit being so anxious!!
Thank RJ, he's the one that inspired me!
Okay...might have to look for seaweeds then...lolol!
------------Thank You, RJ------------------

I'm over to Marcy's - yum, caramels!
Jaye,I stay away from the vermiculite, all by itself, sand ,peat and perlite are the mix I think you can make that will work the best, good draining is what your after.
The miracle grow works for people in the winter that doesn't have the cold to contend with, here it keeps the soil to moist, for too long period of time.
I have used in the summer, without a bit of problem at all.
Take it out of the paper towel ,and see if it will dry up a little, let the air to it,if in a moist paper towel it will continue to stay soft.
Come on BHM!!! In fact...I will trade places with you for a month or so...smiles. I would LOVE to see Hawaii!! In fact, I would give you the whole 5 lbs. of caramels if I could come to Hawaii and stay!!! I might even make another batch...hahahaha!!!!
Ok...night night all!!
Man Jaye, I hate the rot! I have never been able to save one yet. Let us know how you do...
There is one seller on E-bay that I will never use again, everything I have ever got from him has rotted - course it could be me!
Marcy - join the fun in February - and bring the caramels!
Thanks for the advice Tman. Taken the paper towel off. Tomorrow morning, will repot my two ladies...without vermiculite. Thank God, I am stocked well with Miracle Gro and I do have Perlite! I will apologise to them first for the unintended abuse! What will I do without friends like you all...
Then when I checked on my lasagna bed this afternoon, there were black ants all over!!!!!!! Drats...another challenge! Another page in my journal!
Good nite y'all.
BHM, d-mail me the eBay id. Might be the same one!
In the meantime, stay warm.
D-mailed!
Heaven,your most welcome,and I hope it's not too late.
Good luck with your rest of your cuttings.
Black ants try borax,it might keep them out.
Hi everyone,I have never lost angel cuttings and I use almost pure washed river sand mixed with just a little garden soil or potting mix.
That is so successful that until I read about you folk making seed pods on the angels, it never occured to me that you could make baby Angels out of seeds, I am very excited because I have many pods now thanks to my trusty paintbrush!
Into the chilli now?, that will warm you up ...I hope you are all cosy and warm. I make a mean Cornbread! y'all have to drop by sometime :)
chrissy
ps check out my growing pods!
Does that come with a big ole pot of beans and ham hock???LOL
Do you mix a little sugar with your cornbread mix??
Know n around here as sweet cornbread!!!
The people from the south make what we call a mexican cornbread with corn and all different color of peppers in it as well, little hot and spicy!!!!
Good luck with your baby angels,I couldn't keep the birds from taking mine!!!!
MMMMMMMMM cornbread and beans! Love it!
I'd be happy just to have one of my Angel's bloom! Hopefully next spring!
Tm do you mean that they eat the pods? or the little seedlings?, now you have me worried ...please explain so I can avoid it ...I haven't heard of that happening on the Brug forum, that is awful!
77 our Angels have been in flower since last August, but then it was
a very Early Spring blast of warmth this year(no make that every year) but right now it is only 64F and about to rain again ...so whats with that?, I think I might have to crack open the slow cooker and get some soup going myself if this keeps up :) hey but yippee! no fires this Christmas and hey bring on Christmas dinner, we will actually enjoy the hot food for real.
Tm sugar in the cornbread yes just a little ...but do you have a sweet version? I would never have thought of that.
I cook the beans with a hamhock or a cotechino sausage, that is a sort of huge Italian raw salami, stuffed with spices and the meat from pig's trotters,it sounds dreadful but the Italian Australians go mad for it, you prick the salami all over and cook it slowly all day, it melts in your mouth I am told, you slice it up before serving it and place the slices in the bowl then pour the thick bean soup over them, they serve this in the North of Italy around this time of year when they are covered in snow ...like y'all :)
Stay warm everyone! me I am just trying to stay dry, don't forget,I want to know if the birds eat the baby angel seed pods or the seedlings ...please anyone, thankyou ...ok the forcast coming through on the radio right now ...rain right through Christmas with temps of around 80F with storms and high humidity ...crikey!
chrissy

Aloha Mom! Lucky LouC and Mike and Carol too! I would LOVE to go to Hawaii!!! I would have to come by myself though. My DH doesn't travel.....AT ALL!! You all enjoy it for me....ok?? :))
I'll just keep on growing my tropicals here...and make do with that!
Hi Everyone! Hope you are having a good day! It was so foggy out this am. It is cool, but has warmed up! Sun is shining! Bright sun shiny day....La La La!
Everybody about ready for Christmas? I am....wrapped gifts last night, now just got to clean, and get some things from the store on Friday. We're having our Celebration here Sat afternoon. Almost done! Sigh of relief.
Chrissy....what a pretty pink begonia!!! I love begonias. I have all kinds! Don't worry about the caramels....lol. I have only eaten a couple. They are very rich!! But good!
Pass a caramel please......(and the recipe.....) Thanks!
Hi Texasgal! I will be glad to give you the recipe. Going to go eat my lunch right now, and then will come back with it. Now mind you...it makes 5 lbs! But I do think you could cut it in half....because I had one lady tell me it was just like her recipe only double. BBSoon!!
