Pepper, I gladly send you some slices! :P
Play hookey, and tropical gardening in the greenhouse!2
Guess we all go OT when it comes to recipes. Love your cake, Chrissy. In the 50's almost none of those ingredients would have been available here. There was only 2 major bakers with two choices of bread. White or wheat. Now there must be over 100 choices at any grocer. While going through my mother's recipes found another that is rather new and has made the rounds of sharing.
Three Layered Desert
2 cups pretzel....crushed
3 TBSP sugar
3/4 cup margarine/butter
MIx together, line 13x9x2 glass baking dish. Bake 8-10 min @400
Mix together 8 oz. cream cheese, 1 cup sugar
Fold in 1 large carton whipped topping
Spread over cooled crust
dissolve 6 oz strawberry jello with 2 cups hot water
add and stir to melt 20 oz frozen strawberries
Spread on last layer and chill
cut into squares and top with whipped topping.
My mother was diabetic and she would adjust the various ingredients to keep from running her blood sugar over the top. We couldn't tell the difference.
There was never anything left.
Sounds good Christi, I love all of the ingredients! Should be very good. I'll have to give it a try! Thanks for Sharing!!!!!!!
Morning y'all. It's beginning to feel like winter, though in the high 50's. Christi I hope the family made it safe. Jeanne, Jenni, Chrissy, Pepper and Don, I pray it's beautiful weather there.
Thanks for your prayers! It's been raining most of the morning, but at least we didn't get the high winds that they had predicted!
Gonna go spend time with the youngest granddaughter! The other two have already left. We've been up, had breakfast, now it's time to rest and recooperate from yesterday!
Y'all have a great day! (TM has probably done half a day's work by now!!!!!)
How much did you get? So far we only have about an inch. Supposed to have up to 4 inches by noon. The storm is supposed to hit us from up north. I don't see it happening since there isn't much snow coming down here and most of it is back in KS. I think the storm either can't make up it's mind or the weather people have lost their tracking abilities. I want more snow!! lol
About 3 to 4 inches but it still snowing, and now the wind has pick up and blowing snow, almost a white out here in some places.
Well hope it keeps coming your way and ending here !!!!
Wow it is qite something to watch what we all see on our Christmas cards ...happening for real!
are you all roasting chestnuts by the fire?:)
It is getting very busy everywhere in the Christmas Countdown, right now on my radio I am listening to a recording of show business folks like Bing Crosby ...Bob Hope and the gang entertaining the troops at Christmas time, they are playing it on the radio ...makes you wonder how they all felt in those days ...this sort of thing always makes you appreciate your blessings, always brings a lump to my throat
"I 'll be home for Christmas ...if only in my dreams" they sing.
It's beautiful ...
Beautiful pictures y'all! The rain has stopped here, so will venture out to the grocery store afterwhile! Y'all need anything? LOL!
Cleaned out the fireplace. Gonna get some wood for a fire for this evening or in the morning. Granddaughter wants to do Marshmellows. Maybe S'mores!
Why don't Y'all drop in and have some with us? I'll put on the hot chocolate, coffee, tea! Christmas lights and music going! Christi, you can bring the fruitcake, and Chrissy the Christmas Cake! See ya!!
Hi everyone! Hey Don....I took this out my utility room window...lol. Hey...I'm not going out in that stuff!! And yes, it's still coming down!
Hmmmm...wonder why those cross thingys in my window are green? They are actually white!
I hope you all are keeping warm out there, who have snow and ice!
Marcy
Up date!
Still snowing and getting deeper!!!!
Altho it has warmed up to 24*!!!!
I can get to all the greenhouse except one on the north side of the house, and I better get out there and check it,to see if anything needs watered!!!!
Boots,Gloves Coat and hat is needed and maybe I better tie a rope to the door so I can find my way back!!!LOL
Hiya Marcy.
Raining here and not as cold as expected. Still in the 50's. No white Christmas here Chrissy, don't envy those that are snowed in! Don, do be careful!
I once tried roasting chestnuts in the oven. That was my first time ;) Yep, you all guessed it! They exploded ALL OVER the oven! Didn't know I had to slit the bottoms!! I ran out of the house when I heard that..thought the oven blew up!!
Jeanne, a good cup of tea for me, with two packs of Sweet and Low! Save the real sugar for my fruitcake!
Hi Jaye, if I may call you that. I lurk here now and then.:)) I grow tropicals outside in the summer and inside in the winter, like Don. He is the one who got me started on them some years ago.
Right now we are having freezing rain. Man! I'd rather have the white stuff than that. But I'm certainly not going anywhere!
I am glad your rain is in the 50's too.
Wonder how much snow Don has now?????
Just 3 to 4 inches,and has stopped!
Next stop,Ohio,so lookout here it comes Marcy!
Heading to the table for scrambled eggs and sausage!!!
We had that chicken stir fry from Krogers. Wow was it ever good!!
Along with homemade yeast rolls leftover from Thanksgiving, and some mixed fruit....I can say I am full!
Oh no, Marcy's another food lover!!! (Groooaan)
Lolol...nothing better to talk of when your favorite hobby's hindered by the weather, right?
It's braised seven steaks and carrots for us. Guess who's having the carrots :(
That's so true Jaye!! Nothing I like better than talking plants....except food!! Well...actually...food is second. I would rather be planting...weeding...or anything outdoors first of all. (well..not shoveling snow!!)
P.S. Carrots sound good! :))
Believe it or not, I had never shovelled snow!!! The snow I had encountered never got higher than 4 inches. Except when I visited some friends in Indiana, and they had 3 feet of snow! They had a snowblower!
Well I don't shovel snow either, but that's because I have a DH that does it...lol. He mainly uses a snowblower too, but has to shovel in some places, like outside the back door. We live right on the Indiana border.
I think we have about 4 inches too. It is still blowing around out there and the roads are horrible.
We had a luminary walk tonight at work and I worked it so that's how I know about the roads. I had to take a coworker home cause her car isn't made for bad weather and she would have wrecked it before she even left work. So I got her home and actually made it up her driveway too! She has a weird driveway that has a steep but short hump you have to go up. Not passable in snow unless you have 4x4.
At work we had the trolley get stuck then break down so everyone at the Chapel had to walk about a mile back to the Visitor's Center in deep snow since we didn't clean the sidewalks. So no one really got to enjoy the candles and fire outside. They all went inside then left. :~( Tomorrow will be better though. Everything cleaned up and roads actually cleared...I hope anyways.
Add more snow to this pic and this is what people could see from the Chapel. That is also part of the path that you see.
Bless your heart Pepper. Any good deeds will be returned threefold.
Very pretty Pepper! Those 4x4's are great, aren't they? I know I wouldn't want to be without mine, as we have so many hills around!
I live on a hill and halfway to work I have a very biiig hill I have to tackle everyday. I refuse to tackle it on ice though. If the roads are icy I call in.
Now thats what I call a real walk thru a winter wonderland!!!
Yep, there is a great view no matter where you are on the path. Very quiet too.
Beautiful Pepper!
Morning...windy, cold and wet out there today. Still giving thanks that we are not hit hard by bad snow storms. And how's your part of the world this morning?
TMan, you were concerned about eggs. Like Chrissy says, that's been proven wrong again..on cholestrol. But, I found this.
Anzac cookies. Cookies originally sent in food parcels to Australian and New Zealand troops during the First World War when eggs were scarce, the Anzac (named after the term for Australian and New Zealand soldiers) has become a national favorite.
100 grams / 4 oz of butter
1 dessertspoon of golden syrup
1/2 cup of white sugar
3/4 cup of flour
3/4 cup of rolled oats
3/4 cup of coconut
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 tablespoon of water
Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F / Gas mark 4. In a large saucepan melt the butter and golden syrup, then remove from the heat and cool. Add the white sugar, flour, rolled oats and coconut and mix thoroughly. Dissolve the baking soda in 1 tablespoon of water and add to the mixture. Line a baking tray with cooking paper. Roll small rounds of the mixture and place on the baking tray, remembering to allow room for the biscuits to spread. Flatten with a fork. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden.
Ha ha ha I finally get a little bit of time to have a peek and here we are with food again :) I reckon that cold weather makes folks hungry!
H those anzac bikkys are soooo yummy, thanks for sharing that recipe with everyone, for those who haven't tried them ...they are chewy and very sort of oatmeal/golden syrupy tasting.
The pictures coming in from there are just so postcard beautiful, in all the movies everyone gets so excited when it snows at Christmas ... I can see why ...and certainly understand why ...it's awesome. They are playing ..."rockin around the christmas tree ...have a happy holiday ...Oh now that's a surprise I thought it was Brenda Lee (I have a sister named after her) but it was Leeanne Rhymes ...didn't she win American Idol when she was very young or am I mixed up? ...great little singer.
How many sleeps to christmas? ha ha ha It's raining again down here one day of sun only.
I hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas vibe ...it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas here (sun or no sun) lots a guests and lots of fun.
Sending a happy Yuletide hug to everyone :)
chrissy
"I saw mummy kissin Santa Clause underneath the mistletoe last night ...la la la"
Sugar and syrup, ought to keep me going all day long!!!LOL
Sounds good,except I don't care for coconut at all!!!LOL
Been out doing some spot spraying this morning, the last plant I brought in was the belle of the south hibicus,or they call the southern rose, the one opens white and closes red,was just full of spider mites,so I took neem to her and the surrounding plants, this one compares to brugs for spidermite infestions!!!
Oooh Chrissy, that is a beauty! I haven't seen that one before!
Well I have one that is called confederate rose, whitish when it opens in the morning, and the flower changes to pink, early afternoon, then red at evening time.
Your flower reminds me of the one I had several years ago, called Kona, lost it along with 42 other tropical hibiscuses during a ice storm several years back while I was at work.
Marcia how much snow did you get?
Friend north of me sent me this link to show what the ice storm looked like,he's about 100 miles north of me.

Wow! I'm sure glad we didn't get ice like that! I remember an ice storm several years back around here that looked like that. Plus, no power for a while.
I think we had at least 4-5 inches, Don. But it was really hard to tell, with all the drifting and blowing. Dave has cleaned out the driveway twice, and said he will have to do it again in the morning.
I made a big pot of chicken vegetable soup for supper, and started making some candy for Christmas. Made some carmels. Think I will make some cookies tomorrow.
Hope you all are keeping warm tonight!!
New Year's Eve of 1979/80 started at about 65 degrees. Morning was in the 20's with freezing mist. Same thing here. Lots and lots of damage and many without power for over 2 weeks...including my parents. We were 13 miles away at that time but way too far in the icey conditions for them to come here. I fully empathize with those who are caught in these conditions. My son and his family have been here all weekend...they live in Tulsa, OK. They have just had power come back but the heat exchanger has gone out. Left this afternoon hoping to meet the repairman early in the morning.
