Hi! Everyone!

Went to grandson's very first band concert (program) this evening. It is for the 6th graders. Most of them have only been playing an instrument since late Aug. My grandson plays the tuba. They did very good! I was impressed! I even got to see a co-worker that I haven't seen since I retired in 2003! So that was great!

This AM got the canopy curtains undone so now they will keep the plants cozy. Put some of the plants in there, but still need to hang the plastic on the hut, but now we are half way there!!!!! DS will help do that Sat.

We made our way out by The Galleria in Houston to a music store to get a keyboard stand for same grandsom for Christmas! DS drove, plus we went to Half Price Books. DS spent his Christmas money from me! Then we went to eat Chinese at our favorite buffet. We hadn't eaten all day so it was more than wonderful! Came home rested and got ready to go to the concert! So we have made a day of it!! (Will pay for it tomorrow)

Randy all of your flowers are beautiful as usual! Way to GO!!!!!

Hope all of you are doing well! Aloha and Yokwe y'all!!!!!

Carol, any chance of popping over for one of the days Christi will be here - Feb 13 - 20.? She likes to hug people in person, right Christi?

Everyone sounds so much happier ...that is so good.
90F tomorrow things starting to get back to normal then I think ...
lots of trimming ...(understatement!) as everything is determined to devour the house. This all sounds like Christmas to me :)
Here is a bunch of our common house eating, triffid black eyed susans hanging out with the Summer Jasmine and Wisteria, I pulled three wheel barrows full two weeks ago!

WOW...sounds like a plan, Jenny. It IS a possibility...can stay with daughter in Haiku...let me plan. Going to Borneo collecting sometime in January maybe into first part of Feb...not sure yet...will let you know. Now...how much FUN would that be!!! And the fact that it doesn't rain much in Keihe is even better....we are growing scales here!!!

Carol

Now I stayed up an hour later and still no one was here. You couldn't be more right about my penchant for hugging everyone. Got that from my parents. We always knew we were loved. Sometimes I realize I have overstepped my bounds and gotten into someone's personal space. However, it seems that the people I gravitate to are also *huggers*. That would be wonderful if Carol could come to your home, Jenny. I guess if any of you have been keeping up with the thread about the conference you can see that is where my enthusiasm is on a roll. Shari and Randy are responsible for that as well as Debbie's comment. Did you know that I am actually on a committee (small) to help get this thing off the ground. Just can't wait, Jen. Christmas is so close and after that...look out.
The days will just fly by. And then that week will be the shortest in my entire life.
Still can't believe I have won the lottery.Chrissy, your plants and Randy's are just over the top. Tman's are another world all in it's own. Don does the absolute impossible in defying mother nature. I work really hard at it but don't get those results. Never mind. It is not bad for Texas. I love all of you.

cross posted, Carol. Oh wow! Looking out my window now. It is 41 degrees and the EE's are still putting on new leaves. How weird is that? I am so blessed.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Borneo sounds like an adventure. I so wish I knew what I know now when I lived in Africa. As it was, the other kids thought my brother and I were weird for collecting giant bugs and moths that were attracted by the huge security light behind the wood shop. Boys paradise!

I was wondering where you've been too looocy...hehe...I don't know what it is about that Susan vine..It's bordering on annoying

Sounds like a busy day Jeanne. I could barely coax myself out of bed today. I put a little heating pad underneath the covers ..and I slept soooooo good, but I just wanted to keep on sleeping...good thing I had to go to work!
Tomorrow I will rest, put some plants in the garage. Can't cover anything up until the wind stops..sounds like winter is blowing in tomorrow
and then back to work some overtime sunday morning. I figure if I can't be in the garden, then I may as well make some money working overtime.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

High Everyone!!!!!!!!

It definately was a busy day, Randy! We got the plastic hung in the former "hut". Put the canvas top back on, plants in. I still have a few ferns that we should get from around the pond!

Is there anything in particular that you gave me Randy that I should "protect"? I got the plant with the stickers in. How about the Chocolate plant, is it OK? I think we have everything else. Almost bare around the outside of the hut. I am probably going to cover my double peach hibiscus. I didn't last year, and it took forever for it to come back. It has so many blooms on it!

Other than that I'm pretty well ready. They said tomorrow it is going to rain, turn cold and winds of 40 mph, so decided better do all of that today. We picked up my youngest granddaughter from school, and my daughter brought her two over for the night....so we have the three muscateers! The oldest has to get online afterwhile to do some research for a report that is due Monday, so thought I'd better get on beforehand, and then will after...when they are going to sleep!

Don't blame you Randy for wanting to rake in those big bucks! Might as well get them while you can! Don't think Sun. will be a day to do much but cozy up in front of the fireplace and have hot cocoa!!!!

Y'all take care....catch y'all later!!!!!!!!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Borneo!?! How cool is that?!?!?! You sure go to some waaaay cool places Carol! You guys should see her masks and tapa! So many beautiful and interesting items. Randy - you would love them! Christi - you have got to tell me how to find out the haps on all this convention stuff...I feel like a mushroom! We are having major winds and now some rain today...the sun was glorious earlier, but still really windy. Jeanne, I will have my GD for a week in January when the kids go on vacation...gonna be "candylanded and Uncle wiggly'd" out of my head!! But we do have fun. Ain't grandma'in fun?? Well, you know Christi - you always "glow" on your posts when Erin is there.

Stay warm and cozy everyone!

S

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Shari, don't think I didn't bid vacation the second week in Jan off with a plant safari in mind with Carol! it's just not enough time to get to the other side of the world and back again and have quality plant scouting time.

Jeanne, the chocolate plant needs to go inside, it's super cold sensitive..if for some reason you don't, there should be new little chocolate plants in the spring as it is very vivacious in dropping seeds..They are so small that one really doesn't notice their stealth seed spreading, still..you pretty much can't buy these in nurseries..not sure why..but they're pretty difficult to find..so I'd bring it in the house.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

AAWwww. This weekend is the bigger girls. Marcus's girl Payton is 12 and she is dancing the Nutcracker Suite at TWU in Denton, about 70 miles from us. Auditioned and got the part. All toe dancing. How great is that! Marcus, his wife Amie and her daughter 14 year old Sydney should be here any minute. The weather is just *crap*. There are three performances this weekend and I don't know which we will be attending. Will try to get everyone still long enough for pictures.
Proud grandmother. Sydney is a gorgeous natural red head about 5' 10". Oh to be so lucky. Payton, being a ballerina is a string bean. About 5'5". Hope she continues to grow taller. I have been standing in a hole all my life.

Everybody have a great weekend.

Shari go to Dave's Garden. First was,,,,,, I'll have to look.

OK Randy, wrote myself a note to get chocolate plant and bring it in! Any others?
Papaya tree is already in. I'll go out and look at your list and see if I can find any others!

Shari, Tali will really keep you busy! It is an Adventure! They have more energy!

Christi, Enjoy the performance! That is wonderful! Can't wait to see the pictures!

Chrissy, is the sun still out? Our's sure won't be tomorrow! But what rain waters then I won't have to, except for what's already put up.

Aloha Jen and Carol!

Jaye....hope you are doing well! Where ya been?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Chocolate Plant is now "inside"!

It has rained here, but so far we haven't had the high winds that they predicted....Thank Goodness! It is a dreary day. Randy, did you get rain?

Good time to get some things done inside.....and REST!!!!! Gonna go spend some time with the youngest granddaughter!

Y'all have a great day, Everyone!

Poor Tm is covered in snow ...how about anyone else?
All the nannas spending time with grandchildren ...now that is what it's all about!
You all sound so ...well Christmasy! it's hectic but wonderful isn't it?
Over here we cannot believe the mild conditions ,only 68 F ...huh ? what's up with that? I am loving the milder temps but it is taking some getting used to ...the chocolate isn't melting ha ha ha.
So for you who are in the snow, like Tm stay cosy and warm,
look at this snail creeper covered in hundreds of flower buds and eating my giant strelizia ...turn your back for 5 minutes!
Have a lovely day everyone ...Sunday morning here ...we are a little closer to Christmas than you :)

Happy Monday Chrissy...here too! We have had tons of rain and hellacious winds for the last two days!
We are getting ready to go to brunch with the kids and then I will head down to the gym to decorate for tonights "Chrismas in the Marshall Islands" celebration. We bring dance troups from various other islands to Kwaj (dance is the major form of celebration here), they perform and then our group performs. at the end of the show the Marshallese ladies throw candy and small gifts into the audience and it turns into a real melee of fun. Then we feed all 200 or so of the dancers. It makes for a long and fun-filled day/night...and so great to share the holidays with our neighbors!

Wish you could all be here as well!

S

That sounds so wonderful ...wish I could be there too ... next to singing I love dancing!, both listening and doing as well.
I hope you have a wonderful time, we want to hear all about it tomorrow, I hope you are settling in back home ...as wonderful as the World is ... there is no place like home!

Chrissy...you are too right!!!!! Lovely photo, too.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Everyone! We made it thru the freeze! Had everything ready in time! Spent time with the grandchildren. Been shopping. Errands today. Got the piano tuned today, as I would like to start playing again. Not sure the neighbors will agree, but at least the piano is in tune! LOL! (My Grandson is taking lessons.)

It's been beautiful out today! A bit chilly, so we are making chilli!!!! Smells so good! Why don't y'all come on over!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Would sure love to Jeanne, but I'm staying put for a while! Sure sounds good though!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thank goodness for some blue sky and vigorous growing plants..Thanks Chrissy, keep posting girl!
Yes we made it through a rather nasty weekend, with the potential for being even nastier, but somehow we rode the fine line of freezing. I knew the plants might be in trouble when I got in the car at the wee freezing hours of 5:15 AM sunday morning and the temperature reading on the car said...-ice-. We stayed just above freezing, and in fact some of the EE's are still pretending it wasn't that cold. They're usually the first to communicate "it's too cold" mantra.
Power went out saturday evening during the very windy cold..was erie listening to the wind...sitting in pitch black, forutuneatly under the covers.

Carol, let me know if your still around the 2nd week of Jan.

Rj

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Randy?????Are you planning a trip????? So cooooooool!!!!!

Stay toasty!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, I was wanting to go to Borneo with Carol, but I didn't bid enough time off, only have a week, and passport expired in the meantime - so was thinking about visiting friends in Kauai.
It's really pathetic..we have the shortest winter here, but I'm the biggest whiner. I need sun baking my skin and a cool drink in my palm.

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Tee Hee...why do you think I love Kwaj so much?! You know of course, that you have friends to visit here as well!

Hugs,
S

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, would love to...theres that paper work thing though, and passports...I will be getting that fixed in Feb.
Truth is I'll probably end up on a beach in Costa Rica or Mexico. it's much closer.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

ok. So in mid-February I will be at Jenny's and Carol will be visiting as well. Could you be inticed to join this girls group. Mike and Frank will be there. Whales and their calves are running.

LouC

No passport.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ohhh...would love too...I think my next holiday is in March. I usually bid mid Feb, but it was blocked for training. My original holiday was two weeks in Feb, and was planning a visit with a mate of mine in Australia, but the training ruined that.. My holiday was to be timed with my mates holiday in Melbourne.
I guess the Garden Gods had something else in mind for me this year!

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

See Randy, if you weren't such a nice guy, you wouldn't be in such high demand! But I for one sure don't want you to "mean-up". I've got to get my pix sorted out so I can show you guys everything...."Please Santa, bring me several more hours in each day...."

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL,
I tell ya, I dream of a visit.. My entire day would consist of, coffee, snorkeling, nap, snorkeling, dinner, happy hour-- on the beach under stars...repeat..

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Yep...that pretty much describes it. Work tends to get in the way of our fun!

Hillsborough , NC(Zone 7a)

LOL!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh the island life......SIGH !

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I can't wait. A week will just not be long enough.

I think a tropical holiday would be great! Rj the sky is grey mate ...it has been for weeks, it feels like England ...what with the constant rain and no Sunshine, the plants don't seem to mind except the zucchini is starting to get the mildew, I can't do the milk spray because of the rain, but all of the other things are enjoying the water.
With lush growth we get fat, happy bugs chomping away, but that's ok no worry about fires at Christmas is a really wonderful thing,I hope everyone is enjoying the busy Christmas season, lots of visitors already here, not much time for the computer so here I am sneaking a few things in at around 6.30 am,weds morning.
I hope you all have a good one!
chrissy

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

The sky may be gray Chrissy, but your lovely plants sure don't look "down in dumps"... they look like they are enjoying the cool and rain. We have had a lot of rain and wind here lately...raining - or threatening to - here again today. I'm going to turn up the volume on my Christmas music, and make rum balls. What else can one poor girl do???

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

It is gorgeous here! The sky is covered with white clouds. It is cool, a slight breeze, not humid, and time to start running errands again. See ya!

Here's a pretty little Azalea to wish you well!
