Happy Holidays AV BINGO the game continues!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Lin, all is well that ends well. Hopefully we'll hear from Donna soon, and Elaine can get in touch with her about sending her that box of leaves. No worries! A little extra confusion just keeps us on our collective toes. :-)

I think everybody who is sending and receiving the prizes knows what is going on with them, so that should be fine... if there are any questions, please Dmail me!

The juggling that we did so that Bonnie could also get a gift certificate means that I am sending Ccino my gift certificate from The Velvet Leaf (I'll still be ordering from there in the spring, no doubt!), and our anonymous donor will be sending MrsBonnie a gift certificate to the vendor of her choice.

This was a fun game, and I appreciated everybody's patience as I juggled details and internet access from various locations! It's a pleasure to be part of a group like this one. :-)

Happy Winter Solstice! After tomorrow, the days start getting longer again... hurrah!

(Zone 1)

Diane: That is such a nice sentiment! And, so very true. Life is short with joys and sorrows along the way. I am so Thankful for all the Blessings in my life .... and this Garden, with all you ladies is one of them!

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

I think you both did a great job and want to say thanks for a fun game!! Wish I had been the biggest loser --- what a prize :-)

(Zone 1)

Ooooh ... Days getting longer?? That means Spring is just around the corner, right? With new gardening catalogs and magazines, new plants ... and TRADING!!

I know I live in Florida and we are blessed with really great weather most of the year but I miss daylight saving time! I like it staying light later, so I'm all for the days getting longer!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Merry Christmas!

I just noticed another of our players is having a Birthday today too, so before the day is completely over:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Barbaratoo! Hope you had a wonderful day!

Haven't seen you around the AV forum - hope you had fun playing the game with us and hope to see you pop in and join us on this forum again soon!

Happy B-Day to Barbaratoo!

Plano, TX

thanks for the fun game--exciting while it lasted!!

Hilton, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the birthday wishes...I've been here - posted on the 18th that I had one left for a BINGO and have had as much fun as others with this game, as it was a welcome distraction to this busy time of year. Been spending time on the Indoor gardening and Houseplant forum, too. I joined DG back in 2001, but didn't participate much as "life" was very busy; now retired, I am able to check in every day...look forward to "visiting" with everyone.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Hey, Oh wow, I'm the second biggest looser! I had given up on winning anything and was getting ready for Christmas visitors. We have nine people coming for a week so it takes a lot of organization. That will be exciting getting the leaves if they don't freeze on the way here! Sorry I didn't check for a couple days. I've been faithfully checking every day until the 1st biggest looser was drawn or the slowest starter, I forget which one, and then I thought it was over for the month. I went to town today, because one of my african violets was looking so sad and I was hoping to find another one, but all I could find was poinsettas. I wonder if they put them away till after Christmas. I think AVs would make nice Christmas gifts. Donna

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Have a blessed Christmas everyone.

It was a great game. I had them all within a few calls but then 'Tinsel Town ' was never named. This makes it a great game. Thanks Jill and Lyn. I enjoyed it. Linda

Plano, TX

lillac 58-- a neighborhood home holiday show had the pretty african violets planted in big oversize coffee cups for christmas gifts--i agree they would make nice christmas gifts and especially the ones with the holiday names! if i see those big cups anywhere for a good price i might pick some up and try that next year--guess i would have to try and drill a hole in them too

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

RDT- Tinsel Town was the only one I had left as well!

Me too!!!!

Great Bingo this month. You 2 did a wonderful job.

(Zone 1)

Lilac58/Donna: Congratulations on that great prize of a box of AV leaves from Kamikid!

I rarely see AV's for sale down here. Usually in spring Wal-Mart and Home Depot will have them but as summer gets here there are none to be found. I would love to see a pic of those coffee cups! Were they ceramic? I have one large cup & saucer planter that I bought through a catalog a few years ago. Nothing special, it's yellow in color and made of tin. I've always thought I should go around to flea markets or antique shops and see if I can pick up some little ceramic type tea cups & saucers with pretty floral patterns and just sit little mini violet pots in them for display! I really think that would look cute. I love using different decorative containers as cache pots for my houseplants.

Again, Congratulations to all the winners of the Holiday Bingo game. I enjoyed holding cards and am real sorry I messed up there in the end! I know how exciting it is at the end of the game when everyone is so close, and hoping for a prize. Also, Thanks to the folks who donated prizes to this fun game!

Merry Christmas!

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Merry Christams & happy New Year to all my friends here at Daves Garden, what a great bunch of people.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

You can drill holes in coffee/tea cups (use a special bit for ceramics, and it can also help to use water around the bit as you drill the hole -- make a ring of petroleum jelly around where you're drilling to hold a little water in place around the spot -- at least that's what I've read!)... I usually opt to just use the cups as cache pots, with a plastic pot (with a hole in the bottom) inside... I just drain out any extra water as I would from a saucer after watering.

(Zone 1)

Critter: How's your Mom doing? Sure hope all is okay and she will be home for Christmas!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

She's home, as of yesterday! My apologies for the lack of update. We were busy... :-)

(Zone 1)

Oh, no apologies necessary! This is a busy, busy time of year and you've got a lot going on with your mom having surgery and then the scare of the mild heart attack! I am so glad she is home, I know she must be thrilled by that. It must be difficult for those spending Christmas in the hospital.

Give her my best wishes for a speedy recovery and y'all Have a wonderful holiday!

Hugs & Blessings,

Lin

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you all get to be at home together for Christmas! Such wonderful news

Plano, TX

criterr--i like the idea of using little pots in the big coffee cups! it would be easier and take the risk out of breaking the pretty coffee cups!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I love to give and get avs in pretty china cups and saucers (with the pot sitting in it)......that is going to be my new shopping finds

PS. Baby Julia is now having a 3rd setback.........is scheduled to go back into surgery tomorrow. Her dad drove all her records today to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston and back home. They want an 'unofficial' second opinion this go 'round. But they won't have an answer until in the morning from Houston.

Glad your mom is home, Critter.

Julia'a mom just called to say they are going home this afternoon and will take another CAT scan next week. Now Texas Children's Hospital in Houston is making the decisions and if anything turns wrong at home, they are headed to Houston immediately. You knew that her drain tube fell out..........the sonogram shows that the majority of the infection is gone but not all of it.

So.....her parents are going to administer the high powered meds through her main line at home and just let the drain tube sutures dissolve on their own within 2 weeks. I am so glad that they didn't go through the front of the stomach and try to drain the infection. The doctors in Houston said not to do it as her main aorta is too close to attempt draining with needles from the front.

It isn't that the doctors where she is are wrong or bad, my kids just miss Houston where they know the staff at Texas Children's plus............it is ranked #4 in the nation for a childrens' hospital.

Thanks so much for your caring..........but it looking better all the time.........hopefully no more setbacks.........
gail
PS Kim, send me your list of seeds you ordered so I can compare with what I want to order both from the gesneriad society and Mauro from Brazil. thanks....
