Victor Should Write a Book
Good evening Jasper!
evening there, Mr. dave !
My boss' screen saver says, OUT OF MY MIND...BACK IN 5 MINUTES.
I like that!
Is he a decent boss?
He must be, he has a good sense of humor and Jasper is his employee. Hee hee hee, (sorry, couldn't resist)
A good sense of humor he does have...I plead the 5th on the rest !
(Thanks, pixie ! LOL )
Dave - are you an insomniac??
either that, or he drank coffee too late at night !
No, just keeping Jasper company.
I sleep like a log. Just stay up late sometimes because I'm not mature yet.
You mean you do immature things when you stay up late? Like party, party? Listen to weird music?
I sleep like a log as well...except when pondering Victor's latest take on things...then I'm awake for hours.
On Christmas, I borrowed a bunch of dvd's and vhs tapes from one of my ds's. Just finished watching "The Moon Spinners" with Hayley Mills. Haven't seen it in eons. Good film!
I love old movies.
Me too! When my older son was about two, whenever he would see a B & W movie starting, he would tell us 'your movie is on!'.
What are your favorites, Victor? Do you like Boris Karloff?
How cute Victor!
Wow - so many Gloria! I liked Boris in a few things. Was never really into monster movies aside from the classic ones. Cary Grant, James Stewart, Betty Davis, Katherine Hepburn, Orson Welles. Can go on and on with actors, actresses and directors. I love Film Noir, musicals and comedies. The third Man is one of my favorite movies. One thing I find amazing is how good so many films of that era were when they were put out in a 'production line'. An actor or director did many films in one year. There certainly were some stinkers, but an amazing number of classics.

I like old foreign films too. this one was recently remade into a Tom Cruse film, not still not as good as the original.
I always think of this film whenever there is a long rainy day. The story is told from the perspective of the Japanese version of the front porch on a rainy day.

Here's a Fillini film also that I watch over and over.
Did anyone like "Nosferatu" ?
im afraid to ask. Not familiar with that one.
Among my favorite B&W movies would be the first 5 minutes of The Wizard of Oz. Or did Ted Turner colorize that?
Not really Jasper. But I still do get the feeling that I might miss something if I go to bed early.
The other day on the sci fi channel I saw a modern remake of Dorothy and the wizard of oz.
I believe the original W. of Oz had selected colorization. The ruby slippers and the Emerald City were in color.
Didn't see either one of those Gloria. Will have to check them out. Nosferatu scared the heck out of me and I only saw clips of it. I love Preston Sturges films. And Billy Wilder, Hitchcock, Welles, Ford, Hawks...I love Astaire and Rogers, Gene Kelly...
Victor! You must see the wizard of Oz!
No, I meant the two you had links for. I've seen Wizard many times, including a few with my kids.
That was supposed to be a joke!
i'm guessing the 2 movies Victor meant were The Seven Samurai and Fellini's 8 1/2. i know there was a tom cruise movie recently called The Last Samurai, but it is not related. The Magnificent Seven was an american version of the seven samurai.
Dorothy's slippers in the book are silver, but in order to show off the wonders of technicolor, they became ruby slippers.
How did this escape from the movie thread?
An Oz movie that i love - that actually resembles the extraordinary, magical L.Frank Baum books - is:
http://www.amazon.com/Return-Oz-Fairuza-Balk/dp/B0000DZ3EN
(one radical concept - Dorothy is a CHILD. i find judy garland infinitely disturbing playing a character meant to be about 11 years old. Don't get me wrong, the classic movie is wonderful in its own way, but it is not a good representaion of Baum's world.)
Our threads 'bleed' into one another!
Dave - I know what you mean about thinking you'll miss something if you go to bed. I'm the reverse of you.......just can't stay up late, but I get up early because I don't want to miss any of the morning. Once things get dark, I'm outta here! I love the daylight, and I especially like seeing the sun come up.
I am no longer a night or morning person! Almost always in bed by 11 and rarely up before 7.
I couldn't make it to 11!!! I think you're a night person if you can do that!
I rarely go to bed before midnight.
Amy, I read (with my daughter) about 12 of Baum's Oz books. we had fun. But I really think the Wizard of Oz is the one movie that is better than the book. the whole idea of lion, scarecrow, tinman being the farm hands was all original to the movie. (As was Dorothy's waking up).
If I remember correctly, the Wizard of Oz movie was black & white until they went to the Emerald City, and was in color from there on. Wasn't it the first color movie ever on t.v.?
That's what I remember too. Don't know about the tv first.
VG you should be in hog heaven this weekend. Ive never seen so many of the old re-runs.
I know. Fred and Ginger marathon on TCM. We have to keep the kids interested though, so as of right now, it's kids' channel stuff. They want to stay up to see the ball drop.
I can relate - I'm waiting for the girls to finish up with Batman right now, so we can all watch something together. Katherine suggested her Hairspray dvd, but I know Lee won't go for that. If it doesn't have the Patriots or the word "Bourne" in it, he's usually not interested!
I'm all over the Fred and Ginger marathon right now, Victor......LOL
I think theThe Wizard of Oz is B&W until they land in Oz (Munchkin land). The old joke, back when Ted Turner was colorizing classic movies, was that he colorized the first 5 minutes of the Wizard.
