I think it is a noble intention to adopt animals in need........
Victor Should Write a Book
I used to raise akc dogs, but over the years Ive adopted a number of rescue animals including a tiny coyote puppy. Last year I lost my 14 year old malamute and started making the rounds of the local animal shelters.
Finally, a wee little fluff ball decided I would be suitable for her. I had no idea what this pup would turn out to be and the veteranarinan didn't seem to have any idea what kind of a dog it was. At first it got longer, her nose got long and the body got long. Oh. No. I thought this looks like it is going to be a dachshund. That would really be a tough adjustment after living 14 years with a real dog!
Then her legs started to grow and she started to run like the wind. run run run she couldn't get enough. Finally I saw some pictures of Mobi's greyhounds on the DG pet forum and I realized that what she was - a greyhound!
Wow - from a dachshund to a greyhound! Now that's some evolution, Gloria! I have known a couple of greyhounds rescued from a race track. Lovely, gentle dogs. The last 3 dogs we've had have been rescues, including Molly. They are so anxious to show how grateful they are!
Wow a greyhound?! Is he rambunctious when you walk him?
Walk? She expects me to keep up with her. she has webbed feet.
According to Mobi they have webbed feet because they evolved running on the hot desert sand in Egypt.
That's what I figured. Sorry - it's a she! What's her name?
The greyhounds I've met are very well behaved. People around here rescued them from the dog track (which, finally went out of business) I think once a greyhound caught the rabit & found out it was automated, it wouldn't chase anymore. They would then be useless to their owners and killed. This started the rescue/adoption.
Her name is Emmagreyhound. Faster than a speeding bullet.
She is mostly confined now, because on one of her forays round and round and round and round the perimeter of the property she found the rabbits and tipped over one of the cages and paralized Mr. George New Zealand rabbit by biting him at the base of the neck. He lived a few days and then he died. Not a good thing.
Apparently the "quick kill" is an instinctive thing. She has never been on the track, but there is one near here and probably her litter mates are there.
Ouch. That's nature, I guess.
Took a while to decide she was worth keeping.
Poor Mr. George New Zealand Rabbit :(
He was such a beauty. A black new zealand bunny.
That's ashame.
