I was wondering what that one would look like!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Did you wonder enough to put it on your list? :-)

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes! It was that Kiwi part that had me intrigued!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Well . I've been here at the hospital with my daughter since about 3 this morning. Hopefully we'll have a baby today?!

(Zone 1)

Woo Hoo Diane: I was wondering if that grandbaby of yours had made an appearance yet! Hope all goes well for your DD and the new little one! Keep us posted Grandma!

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

I only have 7 on my card so far....

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Congratulations, Diane, ahead of time!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Prayers for a smooth and easy delivery! How exciting!

I'm hitting the road again tomorrow, so I've got to download the rest of the pretty pictures to my laptop (I stuck them in a file last night, just need to transfer them)... it turns out that my version of First Class hates Vista... maybe I need to pop for an update!

We've got tiny fluffy snowflakes falling from the sky. I'd appreciate it more if Jim weren't flying back from Madrid today. He's only been gone since Sunday... all for a meeting that turned out to take only 2 hours! Jeepers. I've gotten spoiled the past year or so with him not traveling, but he's definitely back into the international stuff again. He enjoys the customer interaction, but the traveling isn't as exciting as it sounds since he often doesn't end up seeing much other than the hotel and the air traffic control center (he does ATC system development & installation)... there are times when his schedule has been too busy for any sight seeing at all, and he's said that he may as well have been in Cleveland, except for the jet lag, LOL!

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

Fingers crossed and prayers being said for a safe delivery Diane.
Congratulations for the upcoming arrival of a new Gran Baby! What a very exciting time!

Not sure how everyone's cards are looking but I have 8 as of this morning. Still hoping for the biggest loser *lol*

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Thank you everyone! And thank God for epidurals and places with free wi-fi!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Any baby yet?

We have about 5 inches of snow and it is cold and windy. I am so glad I don't have to go out.

I have 10 on my card.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

keep us updated Dianne!
Just yell BINGO When the baby gets here...lol I am not sure your daughter will appreciate the humor, but we will! LOL

Do you know what she is having?

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

TEN!!! Yea, Diane!!! I have nine....

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Oh no Janet and Diane in a race to the end. What you want to bet someone will speed by us like we were standing still? :)

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

That I am certain will happen...LOL I did not have either of the ones today, so someone is already picking up speed!

We're over 200 replies and nearly halfway through the calls, so I'll start a new thread this afternoon/evening. I will put a link to it on this thread... but be sure to go to the new thread and click "watch" or post on the thread so that it goes on your list of watched threads!!

It's still snowing. I filled the bird feeders yesterday -- sunflower seeds at one window, a thistle seed feeder suction-cupped to the other window. Both feeders have had many customers! Eliot (over 5 months and looking more "cat" than "kitten" these days) is fascinated... Kitty TV!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

We have a no cat zone here.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Aww. Our friendly pair would win you over! They get baths (well, OK, they get wiped down with unscented baby wipes. they are not fans of full immersion bathing.), so allergic humans are generally not much bothered by them (keeps down the dander levels in the house, which is the main thing). Blake still comes when I whistle, but slowly (give him a break, he's 17). Eliot comes bounding and leaping when you call him... DH is teaching him to "fetch" a stuffed squirrel. So they have some traits that endear them to our dog-loving friends, too!

(Zone 1)

Oh Critter ... that is really something having your kitties come when you call or whistle for them! I've had many, many cats over the years but never has one come when called .... only time they come looking for a human is when their food dishes are empty! Then they are very vocal ... but, come when I call them?! Ha! Our kitties are indoor fur babies. Their outdoors is the screened pool enclosure and deck. I don't like leaving them out there at night (I'm afraid of them going through the screen when neighborhood cats, or raccoons are snooping about the yard) so we go looking for them to bring them in after dark ... sometimes it is very hard to find them amongst all the plants and birdhouses and paraphernalia out there! When we do finally see them, they are just sitting staring at us like "Can't you see I'm still enjoying it out here, and I'm not ready to come in?" Felines are funny creatures but I never met one I didn't like. At one time we had 5 in the family and I was feeding a bunch of strays - totaling 13 or 14! My cat food bill was sky high! Years ago it was kinda country where we live and people were always dumping off cats, pregnant most of the time and kittens as well.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Blake was easy to socialize since I was living in a bitty studio apartment in Chicago when I got him... he had no choice... if he didn't come when called, he was fetched! And if he did come, he got loved up and given treats. He's not that dumb. He figured it out. LOL. Actually, he's just exceptionally sweet, and Eliot is the same way. I think it's partly genetics, just a luck of the draw thing, and partly it's the way I "warp their little kitty brains" as DH says. They both got pretty intensive socializing at kittens... they weren't allowed to nap just anywhere, the rule was they had to nap in a lap. Otherwise, they were picked up and put in a lap. After having numerous naps interrupted, they learned to just look for the nearest lap when they were ready to snooze. There's nothing as relaxing as snuggling a sleepy kitten!

But that's just the approach I've taken with them. Some people say they really admire the independence of their more aloof cats, and they wouldn't have them any other way. When I first got Blake (my first cat... we had a dog, growing up), I'd mention something about teaching him some basic manners, and people would tell me cats were completely untrainable, and that was an admirable trait. Humph. I once trained a fish to jump through a hoop, so I figured I could train my cat to stay off the table (at least while I was looking). :-)

I think it's a good move keeping your crew inside... they're safer that way, and with the screened enclosure they probably feel like jungle kitties anyway! I'll bet you did go through a lot of kibble with over a dozen cats depending on you... wow! I'll never understand how people can just dump animals. Eliot was a rescue... my brother says that's why he's so sweet, he's just that glad that he's no longer under that bush!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I had Cats and Dogs growing up....I prefered the Cats, and we had a Calico that lived for fifteen years, she was still Kitten like up until the end. AND she was well trained too. She came when you called her and got down when you told her down...plus a few other tricks, to the amazement of others. I now have a sweet rescue victim named Sassie that is two years old this past August. She is a beautiful "mini Golden mix" little lady dog...and I think she is great and very well behaved and trained too. I think whatever we love that loves us back, makes us happy and our fur babies are so forgiving of our mistakes and bad hair days too! LOL So here is Miss Sassie, wishing you all a very merry Christmas!!!!

Every dog/cat critter we've ever had in our family has been rescued. We did have a couple of parakeets many years ago and hubby once had a bird from HE_ _ ! that were purchases but otherwise we have had mutt doggies and kitties. Our youngest cat "Cookie" was actually a baby from a feral mom cat and we found her in the bushes next to the house - estimated to be @ 10 days old with eyes just opened. We had to bottle feed her every few hours for a couple of months! That was an interesting experience. But, now she is almost 11 years old and very independent. But, believe me, when she wants attention she is very vocal and nudges you and knocks a book or the paper or whatever out of the way to let you know she wants to be the center of your world! She is the strangest cat who's ever been a part of the family. She is afraid of everything and anything except hubby and I. If the doorbell rings she takes off. There was a Domino's Pizza Commercial on t.v. for a long time and the door bell in the commercial sounded exactly like our doorbell ... whenever that commercial came on, she would hear that doorbell, and take off for the bedroom. Her safe place/hiding place is under the covers on our bed! She thinks no one can see this huge lump in the covers! She isn't a tiny cat weighing @ 17 lbs. She has a little head but a fat body! We had one cat that weighed 25 lbs at her heaviest. They have all been on RX diet cat food for @ 4 years and have not lost any weight! They don't get any exercise though-all they do is sleep and eat. I have actually seen one lay on the floor in front of her bowl with paws stretched out on either side of the bowl, looking like she is cradling the bowl while she eats! Cats are funny creatures!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Aww, Janet, your Sassie is such a sweetheart!

(Zone 1)

Oh, Miss Sassie is so adorable in her Santa Hat! We had a cat named Sassy aka "Crazy Cat". She was a smart cat. Indoor/outdoor cat. One night I heard something at the front door and whispered to hubby that someone was trying to get in the front door. We turned the outside lights on, looked out the window and didn't see anyone, so opened the door. Crazy Cat was on the brick ledge jiggling the door handle which is the latch type handle! From then on if she was outside and wanted in, she would come to the front door and jiggle that handle for us to let her in!

DH and I are both animal lovers but at the time only have the 4 cats in the household. Hope to have a dog again, some day! Here's a pic of my frig with a few cat related magnets. I'm missing two!?! I did have one that said: Lost Husband & Cat - $25 for return of Cat. And, one that said: Dogs come when they are called, Cats take a message and get back to you!

We had Miss Webbles for 20 years and loved her a lot. I just don't like cats in general though.
She couldn't climb on things because a handicap.

I'm finally a grandmother as of 10:51 this morning. My daughter had a really bad time but both are doing well. I'm exhausted and feeling very g-mother-ish after 2 hours of sleep. Been up since 2:30 this morning.
Will post a pic as soon as I get myself together enough to think straight.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sorry to hear it was a difficult delivery, but delighted to hear both mother and -- son? daughter?? are doing well!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I know I promised a new thread... have been distracted, trying to figure out how to get DH home... for a while, it looked like nothing was going to be flying in or out of Philly (scheduled stopover) tonight! He's finally on a plane, called me from the runway during a hopefully final de-icing, will soon be in Baltimore. He was originally scheduled to fly into Dulles, so you see how things got a little nutty. At least the van service is still picking him up (the driver, Daniel, is such a sweetie!), so no worries there!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

New thread is up!
