I was checking on today's call, and had forgotten we got it this morning!! LOL
Happy Holidays AV BINGO let the game begin!
Sorry, Janet... it does seem like "TGIF" deserved a bonus call! We were out Christmas shopping, trying to find a pogo stick for our niece... We got skunked! All we came home with was a necessary but entirely too utilitarian pad to go under our new little foyer rug. At least it's green. (?) Anyone have a good brand of pogo to recommend ordering for an 50 pound kidlet?
Holiday decorating should be whatever gets you in the spirit. If you love putting up thousands of lights, then more power to you (literally). Otherwise, put a pinecone on your table if that makes you think of hikes through snowy woods and gives you a smile. When it gets to be a drag to set something up, IMO it's time to give that particular decoration a rest (or give it away).
Lin, all your "snow people" sound like such fun!
So, to get us in the spirit this morning...
30. Peppermint Candy
Peppermint candy is one of those nostalgic things that make me smile... hope the call makes you smile, too! There are 2 'Peppermint Candy' AVs registered (how does that happen?), but S. Sorrano didn't contribute a photo. Baker's photo is shown below. :-)
Peppermint Candy (Baker) Semidouble white frilled/dark red fantasy. Medium green, ruffled. Standard
Love those pink and white blooms. Makes my day brighter already!
Wow - you certainly started early today! I love that AV, and it was on my list :-)
A few of you have that one on your card! Guess I'm not the only one who likes Peppermint Candy. Oh, and I Love that AV too! Wouldn't mind having that one on my plant stand!
Well, I'm going back to the kitchen .... baking cookies to take to our college basketball game tonight. Had lots of people at the game last night mention that they hadn't had my cookies in a long time, so I thought I would do some baking today. At the University where hubby teaches, some don't know my name but only know me as the "Cookie Lady"!
Hey Critter,
Have I told ya I love ya.....Keep calling the good ones.. :-)
We are off to play Golf then decorate when we get home... Hope everyone has a GREAT day....
Hugs,
Susan
OOOO- Peppermint Candy is pretty! But not on my card....
So CookieLady- what kind are you cooking today?
Chocolate Chunk, M & M and Mint Chocolate Chip! Maybe a batch of Oatmeal Raisin if I have time ... and possibly a batch of Snickerdoodles (Cinnamon Sugar), but don't think I will take the time for those. It just depends on how tired I get from being on my feet a few hours!
Ooh, but think of how good the house will smell tonight after baking snickerdoodles. I treated us to some of Penzey's special Vietnamese cinnamon the last time I ordered from them... heavenly!
I need to get rolling and crank out some cookies this weekend also. Great idea! :-)
MMMM- Chocolate drool drool. All sounds heavenly! That sure is a lot of work but it sounds like they appreciate you for it! What a sweet person you are!
Didn't get me in the mood because I didn't have it. :(
Well, either the Peppermint Candy or the Chocolate Chunk Cookies got somebody in a sweet mood! :-)
I just got a Dmail from an anonymous prize donor who would like to offer a $15 gift certificate to "a place of the winner's choice."
Thank you very much!
:-)
Critter: What is Penzey's?? I've never heard of Vietnamese Cinnamon? Is it better than just regular cinnamon? I usually buy the huge container of cinnamon from Sam's or Costco. And, the huge container of pure vanilla extract too.
I've run out of vanilla extract (think I left a bottle at my sisters at Thanksgiving)! So, I made a batch of Mini Chocolate Chip cookies with Orange Extract! Hubby has been sampling and he says they are real good! I'm going to make a batch now of Chocolate, Chocolate Chip using Mint Extract!
Oh Wow! That is so Sweet! Thank You to our Anonymous Donor! Wish I could send you some cookies!
Oh, golly, you must check them out. http://www.penzeys.com/cgi-bin/penzeys/shophome.html They have been opening up additional retail stores, but none here yet. Maybe soon! :-)
Any of their cinnamon is better than "just regular cinnamon." But you've never tasted anything like that "fancy" Vietnamese cinnamon. They also have the "real" ceylon cinnamon (for making mexican and european style treats... reading their catalog is a real education... I didn't even know I hadn't been using "real" cinnamon all these years!). Their herbs and spices are always so fresh! And the prices are really good, especially if you buy in bulk (enough to refill your bottle a couple of times -- extra refills can be stored in the freezer or shared with a friend).
For somebody who bakes like you do, splurging a little on "the good stuff" is worth while. Check out their double strength vanilla. You can use half as much... or you can be decadent and put in the regular amount for flavor that will knock your sock off. I buy it by the pint and split it with my DSIL.
Well. That was a digression! And a distraction. I was all set to post the next call! :-)
With all these great prizes that have been donated, I'd say a lot of people have been regular Santa's Helpers lately. So I hope they might have this one on their cards.
32. Rebel's Gingham Elf

I may win Biggest Loser after all!!!!!! LOL
Rebels is just beautiful! I didn't have that one on my card but I did have PEPPERMINT Candy and it is one of my favorites too.
Snickerdoodles sound great....Lin, send me your recipe.....that is something all of mine could eat. We have allergies to nuts, allergies to chocolate...so many different ones, but everyone could eat cinnamon!
I Love the foliage on Rebel's Gingham Elf .... very different & very pretty! And, I love any flower that is pink!
Janet: You have d-mail!
I only have 2 calls so far! This is NOT good!
Not too mention I now have a craving for COOKIES! LOL
Dawna: There are a few folks with just two or three on their cards so far, so you are not alone! LOL. It will get better! Before long you will be getting one after another! It always seems to work that way for some reason. Even the "Biggest Loser Prize" is always a great prize!
Well, we are heading out in a few minutes to a Basketball game! I baked for about 5 hours today ... have tons of cookies to take along. I am exhausted but I know the students and fans will love the goodies! I think I ended up with @ 23 dozen cookies!
I sure hope our guys win the game tonight! They won last night and tonight's game is a bit more competition for them, but that is a good thing! Hopefully they will all step up and play well tonight!
Hope everyone has a great evening! See ya tomorrow!
Thank Lin!!! Got the recipe!
It's tomorrow! Well, at least it's tomorrow according to EST!
Here's a call to greet any earlier risers (or night owls)... it seems suitable on a chilly night like this!

Goodmorning I have this one on my list.
makshi--i used to live in fishers indiana and always thought noblesville was such a pretty area--
i saw little tiny african violets yesterday at the plant shop--like the size of my thumb-with blooms!--does anyone grow those? are they tricky?
I have one and it's the same as the others for me. Easier for me because of it's smallness I have it where I always see it so remember to water. lol
i guess they stay that small? do you water them with an eyedropper!!
LOL No I have it sitting in an extra small cache pot and put about a half inch of water in the bottom then set the plant in it's nursery pot in to bottom water. I was told they stay small and mine has. I've had it for about a year.
they would be cute in a little tea cup too--but no drainage so might not be as healthy
I'm just catching up on this thread, as hubby and I have been doing alot of house cleaning in preparation of putting up the tree!
Lin... the Mint Chocolate Chip cookies sound awesome! Care to share the recipe? Don't think I have ever seen or heard of that as a cookie before...
Karen
i would like to have that one, too, karen. My grandchildren love mint chocolate chip ice cream more than life itself!
I wouild like that recipe too,Lin, if you start passing it around! Did you say Chocolate Chocolate Chip wi th Mint?
Lin you are the "cookie Queen" for sure! LOL
Good Morning, Ladies. I hope everyone's morning has started off sunny and bright! Well, I know some of you may not have sunshine with all the snow that's been falling in some areas, but it should be bright with all that white stuff on the ground!
How's everyone doing in the game? I know I am having fun holding the cards and seeing who has what calls! Y'all are all doing pretty good!
Critter: I got the DG Newsletter in email this morning and loved your article on Seed Snatching! I printed it out, along with the one from grampapa on Hummers at your window. I want to read them again later!
Janet: LOL, No I don't claim to be Cookie Queen. I used to be known at the University where my husband teaches as the Cookie Lady because years ago I baked all the time for my husbands students, and during the season for our basketball team, cheerleaders, and fans. I don't bake anywhere near as much anymore ... just don't have the time or energy.
I have volunteered cookies and brownies for a hospitality room at a game in January and a game in February.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I had fun writing that one -- my first article that was more chatty than how-to.
I've posted a couple of my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipes on this thread, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/561548/. Since the recipes use extra egg yolks, I also posted some good biscotti recipes to use the extra whites. :-)
Critter, do you know that you posted a late night call on another thread on AV last night?
