I use pencils for my calculator, too!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

...and for my telephone.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

pirl, do you mean the crank telephone?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

rotary, I'll bet

(Zone 7b)

That's my DH's complaint about cell phone buttons.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I just saw the BIGGEST tv remote ever at a local hardware store - OMG - I would be able to read the keys even without my glasses - gee - even the legally blind would be able to read and hit the keys. It must have been 9 inches wide, and 15 inches long, with button as big as a lumber jack thumbprint!

North Augusta, ON

"The best way to get a man to do sit-ups is to put the tv remote between his toes"

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

No, JD, smarty pants! My Fisher Price phone!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

You have a Fisher-Price phone? I just saw an ad for a digital camera (that actually works) for a 4 year old - it's a Fisher-Price toy. Can you imagine?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Sure! And I have the workbench, too, and love the hammer!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

You would give a four year old a digital camera? Why? What can you impress them with when they are 16, if you gave them cameras before they even start kindergarten. Personally, I can't afford to buy a 16 year old a car (thank goodness I don't have to - no more 16 year olds to contend with!)

2zeus - love the squirrel story! We have "SpotButt" here........he's a regular, and he has manners. I like that in a squirrel. And I also like the chipmunks....they are so cute and they never cause any problems in my garden. We don't have those down here in Fla. Instead, we have the little chameleons (yikes - that might not be spelled right). I used to be such a good speller, but turning the bend of 60 seems to be putting a dent in my spelling credentials. ...Hard to believe I used to actually teach it, huh??? LOL Again, I just can't take myself very seriously anymore. Example - Has anyone seen that commercial for Chick-fil-A where cows parachute down onto a football field during a game??? Well, that was just on during the Tennessee/LSU game, and I was in the middle of posting on a DG thread, looked up and saw the cows coming down, and actually thought it was really happening at the game! OH, LOL......I guess I've seen too many MIT antics mid-game at the Yale-Harvard football game. They've pulled some awesome pranks, so why not cows parachuting??? I was feeling sorry for the cows, and my DH couldn't believe I thought it was real. He made me call my son and tell him.........Oh, so what!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Donniebrook, I thought it was Harvard - Yale, The Game. I was watching that commercial too, but I had seen it before so I wasn't fooled, but could have been. But I still am not sure what a chick -fil is? Sounds nasty.

Seandor, are you Canadian? Patti

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

LOL, Patti - In my household The Game is called the Yale-Harvard game since my DH played on the last undefeated Yale team.....Harvard kept it from happening this year!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

DonnieBrook, I figured someone was an Eli. I see he was playing when I was still in high school. I must say my DH gets a great kick out of following Harvard. We have gone to a few games, but he get annoyed that I make fun of his team. I grew up in Oklahoma where we had more fans at those games than Harvard. Patti

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Yeah, Patti - I know just what you mean! High school football down here gets HUGE crowds and is very exciting. We have gone to a number of games for my high school.

DonnieBrook, You just did. Ra Ra. Yes, I total agree about intellectual credibility, just try running a very heady bookstore in New England when you have my accent and being blond. It took a long time until some customers took me seriously. Including my Lit major DH who was one of the customer always testing me with questions about obscure writer and books. I would wait until they thought that I had passed muster and then I would ask them who was their favorite Miss America? Gotcha. I love you stepping on your sons foot. Smart blond. Patti

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Aged cheerleaders are either terribly depressed or fond of laughing! What is your accent, Patti? I LOVE the Miss America question! Perfect! Oh, by the way, my favorite Miss Amer. was that one with the great toothy smile from Kentucky.....LOL And how about poor Miss Puerto Rico with her hives problem. That was really a low blow!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I was born and raised in Tulsa Oklahoma. I was horsey so no cheering for me. I actually had a wonderful discussion with an NYT writer about the pageant and its place as a cultural marker back in its day. Albeit it was always behind the times, but it made it so apparent that changes were needed in our society. Now it is a bunch of professional pageant gals, programmed like one of those chatty Cathy dolls to utter some nonsense. I know there are exceptions. Love the scandal of the pepper spray or not with Miss PR. Maybe being 5'2 and having no talent makes me a sour puss. But I never would miss one until the 90's when I saw nothing spontaneous and the talent was axed. I loved that part. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like cheerleaders and beauty pageant contestants.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Shucks, Victor, That leaves me out, do you like cowgirls? Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Yee-ha. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That kind of expression is why.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Why do I have the feeling that Victor is now scrounging around in his garage for his old pair of chaps?

OK pirl...you have "blonde competition" now...

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Al, way up on your 10:37 a.m. post, you said "Maybe they need a foreign version of Firefoux." Is that French?

Dave, on your 9:01 a.m., you're right! I should know that rule by heart - I teach spelling rules to my 5th grader in homeschool all the time! I've always been one to just "know" how to spell without explaining why.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No that would be Firefaux.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

No competition, JD. I'm old enough to be Victor's mother.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Actually that might be renard le feu first cousin of pepe le peu.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Everyone up for a little snow?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

NO! Do I have a choice?????

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I sure wish I had a choice, too.
The sky is beginning to look rather dark and gray now. It didn't look like that when I got up this morning.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

We are supposed to have flurries today. I bought a new snow shovel on Friday - on of those with the crooked handle. Anyone try that kind?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

My son uses one like that, he said it takes some getting use to.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

No. Haven't tried one, but I have heard that they are much easier on the back.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Did he say if it was easier on his back, pixie?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes he did, but im a lefty and everything in this world is ALREADY backwards to me!!!!!!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I'm a lefty, too!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ah yank, we are the only ones in our right mind! LOL

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

My mind already left.
